With Oscar-winning style, the actor blames his co-stars for the cinematic catastrophe Run For Your Wife
A privileged glimpse into an actor's craft, now, as Danny Dyer is moved to address his recent turn in critically misunderstood film Run For Your Wife.
Danny, you will recall, took top billing in the Vicki Michelle-produced cinematic work, a Britflick of such radioactive awfulness that it took a mere £747 at the box office. "Rarely has a film aimed so low and missed its target so woefully," was the verdict of one reviewer, who had presumably also seen Mad Cows and Sex Lives of the Potato Men. "Perhaps never in the field of light entertainment have so many actors sacrificed so much dignity in the cause of so few jokes," ran another.
Lost in Showbiz had been wondering how Danny's agent would advise him to treat the opus should he find himself in the company of an interviewer.

The abysmal Britflick was one of the mysteries of the modern age. But the whole business may have been a clever wheeze
Is there a more perfect vignette in the recent career of our rapidly oxidising prime minister than his standing next to Aung San Suu Kyi but being quizzed about Gary Barlow? Over the years, many of us will have beheld certain politicians and wondered: "Do they have any idea what plonkers they are?" One hopes the knowledge eats at them in the silent watches of the night, but the suspicion is that everything from ministerial cars to American bilaterals fools them, and they never really put themselves into perspective.
Occasionally, though, the gods of staging chuck us a bone. And the experience of standing beside the Burmese pro-democracy paragon while reporters asked about his mate from Take That must have brought home to David Cameron his essential smallness.

Actor best known for his part in Potter's The Singing Detective
The actor Badi Uzzaman, who has died from a lung infection aged 72, was perhaps best known for playing the patient in the hospital bed next to Michael Gambon in The Singing Detective (1985). The pair's camaraderie provided some of the lighter moments in Dennis Potter's TV series and showed off Uzzaman's talent for comedic roles. In their scenes together, Gambon (as Philip Marlow) and Uzzaman (as Ali) were shown to share an outsider status, Marlow due to his disfiguring skin condition and Ali due to his race.
Uzzaman again explored British attitudes toward race in Brothers in Trouble (1995), a film directed by Udayan Prasad and based on Abdullah Hussein's novel about the experiences of Pakistani illegal immigrants in Britain in the 1960s. Uzzaman himself was no stranger to the immigrant experience. He was born in Phulpur, in Azamgarh,...

Steve Rose digs out some of the most forgettable pop star film roles
Mariah Carey's last attempt to conquer the movies, airbrushed autobiopic Glitter, served only to briefly unite the world in derision. So now she's back in a more humble role, as a social worker in Precious, and earning praise for her down-to-earth performance.
Precious also finds an ordinary-guy role for crotch-rocker Lenny Kravitz, as a nurse. Is this the best today's singer-actors can hope for? Back in the golden age, it seemed you could put any old rock star on screen. Bowie, Jagger, Lennon, Dylan, even Art Garfunkel, but judging by the current batch, things aren't going quite so well …

British supermodel Jodie Kidd's dream of becoming a top actress has been wrecked by movie bosses - because she's too tall. The 6 foot 1 inch beauty says movie moguls have told her she has no future in Tinseltown. Kidd had a screen test for hit film Mission Impossible 2 - but was rejected. Disappointed Jodie reveals, "Everyone has told me I would look completely ridiculous starring alongside Tom Cruise because of my height. I have always dreamt of being an actress but agents have told me no-one would cast me for a lead role because I am too tall. I have decided to turn my back on it after been turned down for a number of roles. I just can't seem to win." Jodie has played minor roles in Mad Cows and Prince Valiant. But her dream of carving a career as leading actress on the big- screen has been quashed by Hollywood filmmakers. The voluptuous 22-year-old - who claims Guinness has helped acquire her womanly curves - adds, "It's ridiculous. I love acting but the movie producers in Hollywood haven't taken a shine to me." While Kidd's height has been a hindrance, fans say she should not be completely discouraged. "Look at Sigourney Weaver, " said one. "She's 6 feet tall and she rocks."
