Excellent, memorable performances of Vasiliadou and Makris

A magnificent quaint black and white Greek film during the golden period of the Greek cinema! A film with brilliant dialogues and excellent performances of some of the greatest Greek actors and actresses. Georgia Vasiliadou performs the role of the midwife in a memorable way. A doctor (Orestis Makris) abandons his job place in Athens and with his wife and daughter moves to a quaint village in the mountains called Lestinitsa. The villagers are not willing to accept the doctor as the one who will cure them, as they believe that their health problems are a matter of evil eye and the midwife is the best to cure them! And the competition between the midwife and the doctor goes very strong! The midwife's son and the doctor's daughter fall in love with each other. Even the strong opposition between the midwife and the doctor cannot prohibit their children to get married as the doctor's daughter (Kalogeropoulou) is pregnant. The movie has a happy ending! A fantastic comedy reflecting in a perfect way the customs and the habits of the rural Greek society of 1950's. Beautiful scenery of the mountains and the quaint old village give a great ambiance to the movie.
