Tko Holdings has merged the live event groups of its two combat sports leagues into the “Tko Live Events Strategy Team.”
Is the UFC about to follow WWE to a new streaming home? The latest move by the parent company of the two combat sports promotions leaves the door open for that particular question. Tko Holdings, which operates UFC and WWE, has decided to combine the live events groups of both into a single entity, which will be called the “Tko Live Events Strategy Team.” This will allow the company to more closely coordinate events from WWE and UFC, but it could also presage a move to Netflix for UFC events, as the world’s largest streamer recently struck a deal with WWE to air live episodes of “Raw” each week.
Key Details: WWE and UFC events will likely air on the same weekends thanks to the combination of the two live events groups.

Jerry Seinfeld is still haunted by his TV mother's words -- "How could anyone not like him?"
No wonder Seinfeld has been all over social media in recent months.
He forgoes his usual stoicism and criticizes everything in sight, from critics of his movie "Unfrosted" to Howard Stern, college campuses, and even the cast of Friends.
In a recent interview, Lisa Kudrow stated that Seinfeld tried to take credit for Friends' success and implied that if not for Seinfeld laying the groundwork for a quirky New York group of misfits, the show would never have made it.
To this day, many Seinfeld fans think Friends was a rip-off of Seinfeld that just happened to inherit a cushy Must-See TV time slot.
However, Friends fans, and even some Seinfeld fans, quickly point out that Friends' humor is nothing like Seinfeld's outlook.
The issue may be confusing when one tries to break...

The shake-ups should allow fans to continue watching both ‘SmackDown’ and ‘Raw’ until they move to new homes.
The WWE is playing a game of programming musical chairs. The wrestling promotion will see some big changes to its broadcasting arrangements in the next seven months; “WWE SmackDown” is due to shift away from Fox and move back to its old home of USA Network this fall, and in January, episodes of the WWE’s flagship program “WWE Raw” will move off USA Network and to its new home on Netflix, where it will be found for the next 10 years. Originally, USA was set to lose “Raw” in September, and import “SmackDown” in October, but the plans have changed thanks to a new announcement from WWE’s parent company Tko Group Holdings.

The league has a Christmas Day doubleheader up for grabs this year, and opened bidding at the end of March.
Netflix is reportedly finally ready to take the plunge. The world’s largest streaming service has always seemed like a logical partner for the most popular sports league in the United States, but its stance against paying excessive sums of money to win live sports rights made it seem unlikely that it would ever actively pursue broadcasts of NFL games. However, a new report from Puck News indicates that Netflix has entered the chat regarding the NFL’s Christmas Day doubleheader for this coming season, and that it could potentially secure the rights to Christmas games for multiple years to come.
Key Details: The NFL is reportedly looking to carve out its Christmas Day games as a package to sell independent of its current broadcast deals. The league started bidding...

Tko Group Holdings posted better-than-anticipated revenue but saw a March antitrust settlement with UFC fighters squeeze its bottom line.
The company, formed through the merger of WWE and UFC last September, is run by Endeavor Group Holdings. Endeavor recently unveiled a plan to go private, which will make Tko the only public window onto the activities of Ari Emanuel & Co. once the privatization closes. Endeavor did not conduct an earnings call after the release of its fourth quarter results in February. It is scheduled to report new quarterly numbers on Thursday.
Revenue of $629.7 million came in ahead of Wall Street analysts’ expectations, though the WWE and UFC components each recorded upticks in the single digits. Because of the timing of the merger, results in the quarterly report reflect the operations only of UFC.

Tko, the parent company of UFC and WWE, is on the upswing, delivering solid Q1 results and enough momentum for both franchises that the company opted to boost its full-year revenue and earnings guidance for Wall Street.
Tko disclosed that it has reached a $25 million deal with NBCUniversal to allow WWE’s “Monday Night Raw” wrestling franchise to remain on USA Network through the end of this year. In January, Tko struck a massive 10-year deal with Netflix to bring “Raw” and other WWE content to the streamer’s platform as of next year.
At the time, WWE’s pact with NBCU for “Raw” ran through the end of the third quarter. That forced Tko leaders to acknowledge on the company’s Q4 earnings call in February that “Raw” might not have a TV home for the last three months of this year and with that, no revenue coming in.

Tom Brady may be the greatest of all time, but his roast wasn’t. The thing is, it maybe could have been.
Netflix is all about eventizing these days, and probably the easiest way to do that — outside of sports rights — is live programming. Sunday’s “The Greatest Roast of All Time: Tom Brady,” had plenty of sports and too much live-ness for its own good.
The roast began at 8 p.m. Et/5 p.m. Pt, and proceeded to run, non-stop, for more than three hours. Never have commercials on Netflix been more needed. Or a video editor.
What was the point of doing this live? The danger, sure, but roasts are dangerous by their very nature. Live makes it an even thinner tightrope, we get that, but at what expense? The answer: enjoyment.
The Tom Brady roast was an Ok three-hour and four-minute roast. It could have been a great prerecorded 90-120 minute event,...

Exclusive: The rise and fall of World Championship Wrestling (WCW) is to be explored in a new docuseries for Vice TV.
Dwayne Johnson and Dany Garcia, founders of Seven Bucks Productions, are exec producing Who Killed WCW?
WCW was founded by Ted Turner in 1988 after his Turner Broadcasting System acquired the assets of National Wrestling Alliance territory Jim Crockett Productions. It competed aggressively with the then-titled WWF (now WWE), regularly beating it in the ratings on Monday nights where its Monday Nitro outrated Monday Night Raw. However, it endured significant losses and suffered from the merger between Turner parent Tim Warner and AOL and was shut down in 2001.
The series, which premieres on June 4, will explore the complex factors that led to the promotion’s downfall, including management challenges, creative decisions, and the intense competition during the infamous Monday Night Wars. It will feature exclusive, in-depth interviews with wrestlers, executives,...

NBCUniversal announced on Monday that it was raising the price of a Peacock subscription by $2 per month on both of its tiers.
The peacock has always been a sign of extravagant wealth, and NBCUniversal appears to be leaning into that stereotype. As forecast by The Streamable's experts, on Tuesday, NBCU announced that it will be raising the subscription price of its streamer Peacock, and that beginning this summer, both of its two plans will cost $2 per month more than they do now. If that’s a little too much to pay for the relatively smaller content library of Peacock, and you’re thinking about canceling the service before the price hike kicks in, check below for options that will allow you to watch a much larger array of content for the same amount, or even less, each month!
Key Facts: Netflix offers ad-supported streaming for $1 per month less than Peacock’s new price.

Amazon has leveraged the power of Nielsen ratings for “Thursday Night Football,” and Netflix could do likewise going forward.
After making its first major sports-adjacent deal in its history, there’s officially room to speculate on what sports Netflix could pursue next. Netflix signed a 10-year, $5 billion deal to stream “WWE Raw” starting in 2025 in late January, and industry talking-heads are already wondering what other sports Netflix could go after. But with Netflix’s recent decision to no longer report its subscriber totals to the public, will it still be able to convince sports leagues it wants to partner with that it’s a good potential broadcaster for their games?
Netflix has nearly 270 million customers but will stop reporting its totals publicly in Q1 2025. Company co-ceo Ted Sarandos said Netflix isn’t anti-sports, but pro-growth. Prime Video uses Nielsen ratings to quantify its sports successes, and Netflix could do likewise in the future.

The Golden State Warriors have been in “playoff” mode for a while now down the stretch. So, if they do manage to make the 2024 NBA playoffs to face the top-seeded Oklahoma City Thunder, you better believe they’ll be ready. The streamer will stop reporting global subscriber numbers publicly, a sign that it believes its subscriber base could be reaching maturity.
Netflix may feel that it no longer has anything to prove to its competitors. The streamer reported this week that it maintained its position as the world’s largest on-demand video service, adding 9.3 million customers to raise its global total to 269.6 million. The company still has important goals, such as passing the 10% of total TV viewing time; Netflix does not exceed this amount in any country in the world as of now. But it will no longer report its subscriber numbers publicly starting in 2025, begging the question of how much larger the streamer can truly get, and how it will boost engagement to reach the coveted 10% milestone it wants to reach.
Greg Peters told analysts during the company’s earnings conference call that it reaches 500 million people around the world currently.

The cycle of quarterly earnings reports from top media companies is beginning again. Netflix is the first streaming provider to give customers and analysts a peak at its first results for 2024, and as expected the streamer has continued to grow. Netflix was able to add 2.53 million customers in the United States and Canada, increasing its Ucan total to 82.66 million. This represents a 7% year-over-year growth and eight consecutive quarters of positive subscriber totals in the region.

Moving to the Asia-Pacific region, Netflix added 2.16 million new customers for a total of 47.5M. Europe, the Middle East, and Africa added 2.92M new Netflix subscribers, and Latin America pulled in 1.72M more. In total, the streamer experienced 16% year-over-year growth in paid customers.
The streamer’s quarterly results exceeded Wall Street expectations.

The Miz, John Cena and R-Truth got busy in the ring at Judgment Day at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.
The trio jumped at three other wrestlers as the audience cheered during Monday Night Raw.
“I’m crossing my fingers and toes, and my heart that maybe – maybe just maybe – I can tell the Hollywood world to pump the brakes for a while and come back to my family for one last run,” Cena noted on the Pat McAfee Show before the event. “I hope, I don’t know. In February, Cena stripped down at the Oscars for a bit with host Jimmy Kimmel.
“Can you imagine if a nude man ran across the stage today? I said, can you imagine if a nude man ran across the stage today? Wouldn’t that be crazy?” Kimmel said at the awards ceremony.

Heels might be headed back to the ring.
The drama, which was unceremoniously canceled along with a couple more series as Starz cleaned house in September, has been licensed to Netflix by Lionsgate Worldwide Television Distribution. With the acquisition, Netflix will have non-exclusive rights to the two-season, 16-episode library of the wrestling drama starring Stephen Amell (Arrow) and Alexander Ludwig (Vikings).
Sources also note that while Netflix has not renewed the series, the streamer could wind up doing so should Heels perform well on the platform. Those same sources also caution that a third season, even in success, could still be a logistical challenge. Amell — a die-hard wrestling fan who often would perform his own stunts on Heels — signed on in February as the lead in NBC’s highly anticipated spinoff of Suits. The offshoot of the former USA Network original is one of but five pilots in the works at NBC.

The company hosted the WWE World experience at the Pennsylvania Convention Center, where fans could pay to get up close with authentic WWE memorabilia from their archives as well as take part in immersive experiences. This was coupled with the WWE Superstore, which featured...
