From Blonde And Blonder and You Stupid Man, through to Edmond: we go through the recent straight-to-dvd films of Denise Richards...
So far in this series of pieces that look at the straight-to-dvd or VOD movies of some of our favourite actors who have fallen on hard times, we’ve only looked at men (to date: Bruce Willis, Nicolas Cage, John Cusack and John Travolta). That’s because, mostly, actresses find themselves almost completely out of the game once they hit 30ish – an unnecessary full stop that a lot of us would like to see removed in the future.
Denise Richards, sadly, is no different. After marrying a man she found herself in an abusive relationship with, her career climb stumbled and she was forced back down into TV roles, where she’s currently still putting in the hours.
Richards had a sparkling, American Dream-like start in life.

Jeff Kinney, author of the hugely popular Diary of a Wimpy Kid books – and one of Time magazine's top 100 most influential people – tells Nick McGrath why his stories resonate around the world
The parallels between unassuming middle child Jeff Kinney and his star-crossed fictional anti-hero Greg Heffley are too arresting to ignore. With his preppy shirts, earnest, toothy grin and diffident manner, Kinney – a 41-year-old father of two and self-confessed former computer games addict – was probably never picked first for the school football team.
Heffley, a luckless video games fanatic frozen in cartoon time as the simplistically drawn adolescent protagonist of Kinney's phenomenally popular Diary of a Wimpy Kid series, is similarly flawed and – however hard he tries – rarely penetrates beyond the outer fringes of the in-crowd.
Belittled by his cooler, tougher elder brother Rodrick, frustrated by his mollycoddled younger brother Manny and ignored by the class catch Holly Hills...

Liam Hemsworth has himself a lead role. The third wheel of The Hunger Games’ love tricycle will star in Paranoia, EW has confirmed. The espionage thriller will be directed by Robert Luketic, the man responsible for such timeless Katherine Heigl masterpieces as Killers and The Ugly Truth. The film’s producers are also in talks with Gary Oldman and Harrison Ford to join him, and production will likely start early this summer.
This is good news for Hemsworth, who will presumably be kept busy over the next few years between projects like this and the two or three subsequent sequels to The Hunger Games.

We take time for granted and it’s odd how a year can completely change your life.
Ben Affleck was struggling to get his acting career off the ground with only bit parts in relatively ignored films bar, in what would become a recurring role with Kevin Smith, Mallrats and Chasing Amy. It has been said that it all it takes is a good idea and that’s where Ben Affleck and Matt Damon come in with their Oscar-winning film, Good Will Hunting.
It may have been the film that started their careers, that accelerated them to stardom but it doesn’t mean it was all simple and handed to them on a platter. In fact, their script was rejected multiple times especially from one studio who kept suggesting that they change things without reading it. In fact, they knew it wasn’t being read because they unnecessarily added a...

Hailee Steinfeld and Jeff Bridges in True Grit
Photo: Paramount Pictures Don't get caught up trying to compare Joel and Ethan Coen's True Grit to the 1969 version that won John Wayne his one and only acting Oscar. There is no comparison. The two films aren't even within a thousand miles of one another.
Instead, look at this as a brand new adaptation of Charles Portis's novel of the same name. The brothers penned the screenplay themselves, tightening it up when necessary and while they'll tell you they pulled most of the dialogue directly from the novel (which they did), the subtle changes to key lines only make it that much better.
In an instance of obvious casting, Jeff Bridges was chosen to fill the shoes of the snarled and drunken U.S. Marshall, Rooster Cogburn. He's a weathered old man that loves to drink and tends to shoot first and ask questions later.

Before everyone was claiming to be a Carrie or a Samantha, there were the Blanches, Roses, and Dorothys.
The sad news of Rue McClanahan's death on June 3 has us reminiscing about all of our favorite "Golden Girls" moments. The best thing about the series is its timelessness: it remains relevant in syndication and appeals even to those who are too young to remember the series' original run.
Though the show peaked 20 years ago, McClanahan and co-stars Betty White, Estelle Getty, and Bea Arthur are still present in pop-culture consciousness. "The O.C.," which ran from 2003-2007, paid tribute to "The Golden Girls" often. Sworn frienemies Summer (Rachel Bilson) and Anna (Samaire Armstrong) bonded over their mutual adoration. In fact, their appreciation for Rose and Blanche trumped even their rivalry for Seth Cohen's (Adam Brody) affection.
We love this clip from the 2004 episode "The Third Wheel" which features the girls...

When Stanislavsky decreed, "there are no small parts, only small actors," Matt Damon was listening. In a career that started with one line in "Mystic Pizza," Damon has risen to the ranks of the A-list. Yet as Damon's star has gotten bigger, the roles have gotten smaller -- most recently, the "Bourne" star reaffirmed his status as king of cameos with his brief appearance in "Che: Part II," in which he plays Father Schwartz, a German priest fluent in Spanish who attempts to negotiate with rebel forces in Bolivia, with screen time of less than a minute. Though his finest pint-sized performance likely went down on the small screen last year in Sarah Silverman's serenade "I'm Fucking Matt Damon," no one has done more random onscreen favors for friends than Damon, who has been around the world more than Jason Bourne and worn crazier get-ups than...

Hello. What is shaking? Do you find the weather satisfying? Are you currently sharing the triumph of some local sports team? Pardon my casual tone. Just desiring to converse with you about tonight’s Big Bang Theory. Generally speaking, I thought “The White Asparagus Triangulation” was another solid episode, with the “funny lines” to “cringey geekishness” ratio tilting heavily toward the former. (Which is more or less how I judge my Bbt: how much it makes me laugh versus how much it makes me roll my eyes.) And yet I was a little let down too, because for a brief moment, I thought the standard Third Wheel sitcom scenario was about to be subverted, and turned into something else. You’re famililar with The Third Wheel Plot, right? Like in that one episode of The Andy Griffith Show where Goober’s constant tagging along threatens the romantic solitude of...

NBC has fallen for Man of Your Dreams, a multicamera comedy from Conan O'Brien's Conaco Prods.
The network has handed out a cast-contingent pilot order to the project, penned by writer-actor Jay Lacopo (The Third Wheel), which centers on a womanizer who uses his expertise to help romantically challenged women.
Lacopo will executive produce the Universal Media Studios/Conaco comedy with O'Brien, Jeff Ross and David Kissinger.
While NBC was the king of sitcoms in the late '90s and early 2000s with Friends, Seinfeld, Frasier and Will & Grace, the network has been moving away from the multicamera format in the past few years. All four half-hour series it has on the air, The Office, My Name Is Earl, 30 Rock and Scrubs, are single camera. They were to be joined by multicamera midseason comedy The IT Crowd, but NBC recently pulled the plug on the show, which also featured single-camera elements.
