The Dominican Republic’s Bou Group is in production on its latest pic under its unprecedented multi-year distribution deal with The Walt Disney Company, “Cazatesoros.”
According to the adventure caper’s director, Héctor Manuel Valdez, who co-founded Bou Group with José Ramón Alamá and Vicente Alamá, the pact with Disney came about following several years as regional box office leaders. “They contacted us in 2020 after our company had previously produced commercial successes such as ‘Todos los hombres son iguales,’ ‘Colao,’ ‘Trabajo sucio’ and ‘Que león,’ (the highest-grossing film in the history of the Dominican Republic), among others,” said Valdez.
Like most of the producers in the country, Bou Group finances its films by tapping into Article 34 of the Dominican Republic’s tax incentives, which allows companies in the Dr to allocate 25% of their projected taxes towards local production.

People love to talk about a new Golden Age of Television, where buzzwords like Peak TV get thrown around to describe any number of respected, popular, or critically acclaimed television shows. Certainly, there’s something to be said for the quality of a show like Mad Men or The Sopranos. Even more recent shows from the shared Vince Gilligan universe have their champions, with devoted fans extolling the virtues of Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul long after the final episodes air.
It’s good stuff, to be sure, but it’s not really peak television. Everyone knows television peaked in the early to mid 1990s when a wave of first-run syndicated action adventure comedies propped up the mid-afternoon schedules of every local broadcast channel and basic cable outlet. Thanks to Arnold Schwarzenegger and Netflix’s new series Fubar, it all might be coming back.

After years toiling in obscurity, two beloved icons, Brendan Fraser and Ke Huy Quan, launched major comebacks this year with The Whale and Everything Everywhere All At Once. In light of their recent Oscar nominations, we thought it would be fun to brainstorm a list of other stars we think are overdue for a comeback.

While technically, she’s been around without a break in her career, her parts over the last decade and more have been mostly voice work and guest appearances on television shows and in lower budget movies. Her work is always stellar and her presence online during the pandemic was a breath of fresh air. Her Aloha Friday live posts were something that kept many in a positive mood. Anyone who has met her will most likely say the same thing, she’s a joy to meet and absolutely fantastic.

The legendary producer Jerry Bruckheimer helped to usher Disney into the franchise age with the “Pirates of the Caribbean” series, a gung-ho historical epic chock full of charm that helped the House of Mouse keep up with the likes of “The Matrix” and “The Lord of the Rings.” The king of the high-concept blockbuster is all about what he once referred to as “the transportation business. We transport audiences from one place to another,” and the “National Treasure” movies, starring Nicolas Cage, are a perfect example of his ethos, albeit on a more family-friendly ethos than the work of his Don Simpson days.
The set-up of a ragtag group of adventurers hunting treasure and taking on bad guys is the stuff of old-school Hollywood dreams, so of course it was perfect for the small-screen treatment, courtesy of Disney+. And fans of the two movies (with a third in the works...

In an unprecedented move, Kate del Castillo’s Cholawood and Fabrica de Cine’s Gaston Pavlovich, producer of Martin Scorsese’s “The Irishman” and “Silence,” have teamed up with Endemol Shine Boomdog (Esb) to co-produce “El Agente Mexicano” (“The Mexican Agent”).
The series is loosely based on the true story of Francisco García, a young photographer who is recruited by the CIA after inadvertently saving President Kennedy from an assassination attempt during a 1962 visit to Mexico.
In the first season, now being penned by Rodrigo Ordoñez, the naive photographer transforms into a genuinely ruthless spy. Carlos Bolado is attached to direct what promises to include elements of action, suspense and a good dose of romance. Esb’s head of scripted, Leo Zimbron oversees the production, which will likely run for multiple seasons.
In 2019, the Spanish-language division of Endemol Shine North America inked an overall development and production pact with Pavlovich.

Josh Segarra (Arrow), Michael-Leon Wooley (The Princess and the Frog), Katerina Tannenbaum (Sweetbitter), and Tia Carrere (Wayne’s World) have joined the cast of Aj and the Queen, Netflix’s upcoming comedy series starring RuPaul Charles.
Written by Michael Patrick King (Sex and the City) and Charles, the series stars RuPaul as Ruby Red, a bigger-than-life but down-on-her-luck drag queen who travels across America from club to club in a rundown 1990s R/V with her unlikely sidekick Aj, a recently orphaned, tough-talking, scrappy 11-year-old stowaway. As these two misfits, one tall, one small, travel from city to city, Ruby’s message of love and acceptance winds up touching people and changing their lives for the better. Oh, and RuPaul performs a killer musical number in every drag club.
Segarra will play Hector, Wooley is Louis, Tannenbaum will portray Brianna and Carrere will play Lady Danger.
RuPaul and King executive produce.

We made the switch to streaming only services here at Nerdly HQ almost a year ago and have never looked back.. There’s very little between the services in terms of content, its the Pq and Aq that are the real differences and the winner on that side of things, at least in our BT Infinity 2 household is Netflix – the HD content look amazing, there’s very little buffering and even less picture break-up, something which can’t be said for the majority of the other services out there. My thoughts:
Blinkbox
Before Tesco took over Blinkbox [completely] I was a real advocate for their service. The choice of free content was great for families, and some of the completely free movies they had were real rarities, stuff that hadn’t seen the light of day since VHS. But times have changed and now (last time I checked) the free stuff...

The power-less squad of oddball comic book superheroes known as Justice Forever continues to find its onscreen equivalents in Kick-Ass 2: Balls To The Wall as THR has revealed that Lindy Booth is in talks to join the sequel in the role of Night Bitch.
Read up on what we can expect with this interestingly named heroine:
“Night Bitch is one of the new superheroes that was inspired by Kick-Ass and the rise of the other Superheroes. She claims that the main driving force behind what she does was the murder of her sister, who was then found in a dumpster. Her identity is currently secret and given that a few heroes have lied about their origins in the past, hers is also questionable. Armed with a long pole that matches the colour of her costume, she joined Justice Forever and participated in their first mission, to shut down a human trafficking organization.

A Db is found in the woods. Tony (Michael Weatherly) rifles through McGee's (Sean Murray) things and his self-help CDs. Ziva (Cote de Pablo) calls that wrong and he thinks perhaps McGee's already satisfied. Tony listens to the man on the self-help CD and he loves his voice, Tony: "...like a poor man's Shatner." Tony knows exactly who he is and doesn't need any help. Tony: "I may not be pretty, but I am Di Nozzo, hear me roar!" Well, you're pretty to many, Tony/Michael. Ziva comments, hear him roar, "like an elephant." Gibbs (Mark Harmon) tells Tony to get out of McGee's desk. Tony calls him 'Little Timmy' who's out buying coffee. McGee meets a woman, or rather, she meets him, that meeting appeared contrived. How long's he been going there and no, not a remote chance of meeting a woman, any woman, let alone one who works there sometimes.

We're all still mourning the demise of Ugly Betty, and as time passes and we see a dearth of shows with gay inclusiveness, it's easier to appreciate just how special that show was.
A major reason for Betty's success was the character of Marc, played by Michael Urie. Marc started out as a one-episode character, but thanks to Michael's chemistry with so-star Vanessa Williams, the role was expanded and made a regular on the series.
Through the course of the four seasons, Marc went from a one-note, shrill stereotype to a fully realized, multi-dimensional man thanks to the skills of Michael, who made us care for this flawed and funny character.
Since Ugly Betty ended Michael has returned to his theater roots, starring in The Temperamentals and soon will take-off in Angels in America, and now comes word that he may return to weekly TV.

You can’t buy the kind of publicity Playgirl magazine has received for getting Levi Johnston to pose naked.
Well, actually, I guess you can. What did the magazine pay the ex-future-second-son-in-law anyway? Given all the ink and pixels that have been spilled over this, it was pretty good deal for Playgirl, especially since the word now is that he didn’t even do the whole lumberjack.
Not surprisingly, the magazine is said to be eagerly looking for other famous folks willing to disrobe.
We have some suggestions.
But let’s face it: Jake Gyllenhaal and Chris Evans are never going to pose naked for Playgirl. The same goes for virtually every other person on our annual Hot 100 list. These folks are at the very peak of their careers, and they need neither the money nor the, uh, exposure.
That said, there are plenty of other familiar faces (and bodies...

Warehouse 13, a new show set to premiere on the Sci Fi Channel in July, seems to be a mish-mash of various other shows, such as:
(1) The X-Files, which I loved. You’ve got the two partners here (male and female). The male is slightly more eccentric and a rule-breaker. He’s also the kind of guy who follows hunches, whereas the female partner is much more by-the-book. The difference between X-Files and Warehouse 13? There’s no aliens. Yet.
(2) Relic Hunter. I never watched that show, but Warehouse 13 has an old-world sort of feel to it, particularly the kind of equipment used on the show. This comparison might be bad, because I’m making this judgment based solely on commercials for Relic Hunter, but this makes sense to me.
(3) The Librarian TV movies. I love Noah Wyle and these TV movies were actually kind of cute. It’s...
