Lionsgate has tapped Adam Fogelson to succeed Joe Drake as chair of its movie division.
It’s understood Drake initiated the transition as he works with Fogelson — currently vice chair of the Motion Picture Group and overseeing the worldwide marketing and theatrical distribution — over the coming months to ensure a smooth succession.
Former STX Film chief Fogelson joined Lionsgate in September 2022 and reported to Drake, chair of the studio’s Motion Picture Group. His move to Lionsgate followed the Hollywood studio exploring a possible takeover of STX, a deal that didn’t come to pass.
Drake rejoined Lionsgate in 2017 after running Good Universe Pictures, the second company acquired by Lionsgate from Drake. He reentered a studio different from the one he left in 2012, as Lionsgate had moved beyond its hit Hunger Games and Twilight franchises to leverage a diversified portfolio of film and TV properties across multiple platforms, especially after acquiring Starz.

There’ll be some happy holidays on Prime Video in December, as the streamer’s seasonal offerings hope to keep the fires warm in your home this month!
As such, there are quite a few new original holiday movies coming to the service. At the beginning of the month, Eddie Murphy stars in Candy Cane Lane. In this film, the Beverly Hills Cop and Coming to America star plays a determined man who is willing to go above and beyond to win the annual Christmas home decoration contest in his neighborhood – even if it means making a very magical deal.
The DC universe will also be getting festive in December thanks to Merry Little Batman, an animated feature that sees Batman’s son, Damian Wayne, stumble upon a villainous plot on Christmas eve, one that may give him a chance to save the day when his dad isn’t around.

In the offices of Dunder Mifflin (Scranton branch), salesmen, accountants and even Hr got together to decide once and for all: Is Hilary Swank hot or not? They’re referring to her looks, but one could just as easily be talking about her career. At what point was Hilary Swank hot in her career? In 2008, when the episode aired: Yeah. In the years between her Oscars? Not exactly. Now? No. So, let’s take a look and find out…Wtf Happened to…Hilary Swank?
But to truly understand what the fuck happened to Hilary Swank, we go back to the beginning. And the beginning began when she was born on July 30th, 1974, in Lincoln, Nebraska. As a youth, Swank bounced around a bit, going from Nebraska to Washington to California, developing a love for both gymnastics (Junior Olympian; state finalist) and acting (appearing in The Jungle Book at 9 as Mowgli...

Yemi Alade had a cold.
Last month, the Nigerian star, who recently passed the one-million-subscribers mark on YouTube, flew to Los Angeles to work on a project by Beyoncé. But when Alade landed, she discovered she no longer had a singing voice. “I couldn’t understand what had happened to me,” she says. “I could talk, but I couldn’t even hit the lowest key.”
Panicked, she immediately went into full recovery mode. “I went for a steaming so I could get more moisture,” Alade recalls. “I jacked up on vitamin C.

Coinciding with the release of Disney’s 2019 CGI adaptation of The Lion King, Beyoncé released a double music video for the songs “Spirit” and “Bigger,” which both appear in the movie. Beyoncé previously released the standalone “Spirit” video on Tuesday.
In both videos the singer – who voices Nala in the film and who also unveiled a Lion King-inspired album, The Gift, on Friday – dances and performs across stunning landscapes taken directly from the movie. Along with an extensive group of dancers, Beyoncé’s daughter Blue Ivy makes cameo appearances in several scenes throughout the video.

Before touching down on what Beyoncé has called her “love letter to Africa,” it’s important to see what may have brought her to the mother of mankind, with its wide vistas and sonic planes, for “The Gift” in the first place — beyond, of course, voicing Nala in the film and whatever international marketing tie-ins are to come. Despite “The Lion King’s” own Disney-fied trajectory from animated film to quasi-live-action travelogue, the journey that Bey has taken is one of her own design, with a little help from her family.
“Lemonade” was Beyoncé’s strutting, wrathful, Southern-inspired declaration of spite and self-worth in the face of a cheating man; “Homecoming,” a nod to her Houston roots, marching anthems and healing; “Everything is Love,” her and Jay-Z’s continental breakfast free-for-all dedicated to reunion and spending sprees. After all that, “The Lion King: The Gift” is one for her kids,...

Beyonce released her single “Spirit” on July 10 in anticipation of Disney’s live-action remake of “The Lion King,” which opens on July 19 and features the song. Now it has a music video to go along with it. The clip premiered during “Can You Feel the Love Tonight,” a July 16 special on ABC — which is also owned by Disney, because synergy. Watch it above.
The video features Beyonce, an appearance by her daughter Blue Ivy Carter, and a troupe of African dancers under Havasu Falls in the Grand Canyon. And this isn’t the first time Beyonce has used a famous location to shoot a video; she famously closed down the Louvre Museum in France for “Apeshit,” her duet with Jay-Z.

Beyoncé fans are stampeding across the web veldt to get a look at her just-released music video for “Spirit,” the original song she co-wrote and sang for the “Lion King” soundtrack. The track is also included on the companion album she executive-produced and will release Friday, “The Gift.”
Clips from the computer-animated film are interspersed with shots of the singer in a succession of spectacular, revealing gowns, often engaged in choreography with a troupe of dancers. Her daughter, 7-year-old Blue Ivy, makes a cameo.
Beyoncé didn’t have to go all the way to Africa to find locations for the video, but neither did she rely on the movie’s all-digital magic. At least some of it was shot in or around the Grand Canyon just last week. The Arizona Republic reported that the request came in on July 8 for a shoot that happened only two days later, at Havasu Falls,...

It’s going to be a busy awards season for Beyonce. She could be up for Grammys or Oscars in the next six months, but she’s already made a splash with the fresh crop of Emmy nominations. Her documentary/concert movie “Homecoming: A Film by Beyoncé” has been nominated for six Emmys, and a win in most of those categories would go to her personally.
The Netflix film is up for outstanding variety special (pre-recorded), directing, writing, music direction, production design and costumes. Beyoncé would share in the award for any of those categories except the last two, being credited as co-director, writer and co-musical director as well as a producer.
Beyoncé had previously been nominated for four Emmys but has not yet won one. Her prior noms were for variety special and variety special directing, both for her visual album “Lemonade” in 2016, plus best short form entertainment for...

Beyonce doesn’t just voice Nala in the new live-action version of “The Lion King” — she has also produced and curated a compilation album for the film. Titled “The Lion King: The Gift,” the album will feature a variety of artists, including work from African musicians and producers. That’s kind of reminiscent of another music superstar’s collection inspired by a Disney film: Kendrick Lamar‘s “Black Panther” soundtrack, which earned a Grammy bid for Album of the Year. But if Beyonce is nominated for that award for “The Gift,” she may have to face another soundtrack: Lady Gaga‘s “A Star Is Born.”
“This is sonic cinema,” explained Beyonce in a statement describing the collection. “This is a new experience of storytelling. I wanted to do more than find a collection of songs that were inspired by the film. It is a mixture of genres and collaboration that isn’t one sound.

25 years ago, a generation of children watched two animated lions fall in passionate and steamy love, while a cartoon meerkat and warthog peeped on in despair. “Can You Feel The Love Tonight” soundtracked the intimate moment. Among the unimpeachable bangers Elton John and Tim Rice cooked up for The Lion King, the romantic duet between Simba and Nala was at the top. Then Beyoncé happened — and when Beyoncé happens, you let her do whatever she wants. Instead of adding more bombast or bravado, the 2019 update of “Can You Feel The...

Ahead of the final six episodes, Rotten Tomatoes crunched the numbers and looked back at the previous 67 to see which received the warmest reception from critics. Notably, only one episode — Season 5’s “Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken,” which featured an especially controversial rape scene — fell into the “rotten” category. The second-most poorly reviewed episode still received a respectable 77%.
Even more impressively, 22 episodes scored a 100% “fresh” rating and 51 are at 90% or higher. Four different episodes from Season 3 landed in the top 10, which was rounded out by two from Seasons 4 and 5 each and one apiece from Seasons 2 and 6.

As Turkey’s TV industry reels from the shock of the country’s sharp currency devaluation, Netflix is starting to establish its footprint and get traction in a market that remains among the world’s top five exporters of serial dramas.
“The roughly 40% tumble of the Turkish lira amid tensions between populist presidents Donald Trump and Recep Tayyip Erdogan has caused interest rates to skyrocket and linear broadcasters’ advertising revenues to shrink,” says Ahmet Ziyalar, COO of prominent sales company Inter Medya. “As a result, due to budgeting problems, the number of successful dramas [on linear TV] decreased dramatically this season.”
Ziyalar calls 2019 an experimental year for the Turkish industry. “Digital platforms have been trying things that were long in-the-waiting,” both thematically and in terms of shorter episode lengths, since Turkish dramas on linear TV run between 120 and 150 minutes, excluding ads, he notes. That’s an “old-fashioned” format that could be on its way out,...

Netflix is doubling down on Turkish drama with an archaeology mystery thriller fronted by Beren Saat, star of the Turkish adaptation of Revenge.
The Svod service has ordered The Gift, an eight-part mystery drama that has begun principal photography in Istanbul and will continue in various cities of Southeastern Anatolia, primarily in Gobeklitepe.
It is the company’s second Turkish original following The Protector, a drama fantasy series that launched at the end of last year.
Saat previously starred in hit Turkish drama Fatmagul as well as Intikam, which was a remake of the ABC drama. Mehmet Gunsur, Metin Akdulger, Melisa Senolsun, Basak Koklukaya, Civan Canova and Tim Seyfi also star.
The series follows Atiye, a young and beautiful painter who leads the perfect life in Istanbul; she has a loving family, a wealthy and lovable boyfriend, and to top it all off, she is about to open her first solo exhibition.

Netflix has announced its second Turkish original, supernatural drama “The Gift,” toplining local star Beren Saat, who is best-known for playing the lead in female empowerment drama “Fatmagul,” which was a global hit.
Shooting has started in Istanbul, with British producer Alex Sutherland (“Argo”) shepherding the eight-episode show, which is produced by Turkey’s Og Medya for Netflix. Netflix has already commissioned two seasons of “The Gift.”
Saat (second from left), who is among the country’s highest-paid talents, will play a young Istanbul artist named Atiye, whose life changes when she encounters an archaeologist. A discovery is made at the site of an ancient temple, called Gobeklitepe, where secrets of her past are hidden, according to promotional materials.
“We are thrilled to be working with Beren in her return to series as she brings a dynamic female character like Atiye to life,” said Kelly Luegenbiehl, Netflix Vice President of International Originals,...

Katie Holmes is thinking good thoughts as she uses her gift to impart the wisdom of The Secret.
Katie Holmes is set to headline a feature film adaptation of hit 2006 book The Secret. Rhonda Byrne didn’t just write a self-help book series with her works. She created the law of attraction, which breathed new life into the New Age spiritual movement. The Secret spawned the follow-ups The Power in 2009, The Magic in 2010, and Hero in 2013. Byrne aims to bring joy to the world by helping people control the universe with their minds, using the teachings of Madame Blavatsky and Norman Vincent Peale and a little bit of quantum physics.
The Secret will be directed by Andy Tennant, known for romantic comedies like Sweet Home Alabama and Hitch. The adapted screenplay is being written by Bekah Brunstetter, (NBC’s This Is Us), with help from Tennant and...

After two years, Stx Entertainment has “Bad Moms,” “The Gift” … and more than a half-dozen other titles that range from near misses (“Desierto”) to outright flops (“The Bye Bye Man”). Never mind, said motion picture group chairman Adam Fogelson at his studio’s CinemaCon presentation Tuesday. He’s more than confident that his studio’s next chapter — or as he called it, “Stx 2.0” — is filled with hitmakers.

Fogelson began by pointing to his studio’s early wins including “Bad Moms.” Starring Mila Kunis, Kathryn Hahn and Kristen Bell, it took in $113 million domestic on its way to becoming the highest-grossing R-rated comedy of 2016. A sequel, “A Bad Moms Christmas,” goes into production next month with a November 3 release date.

Bound by a blood oath to help him, John travels to Rome where he squares off against some of the world’s deadliest killers.
After unleashing mayhem on the criminals who killed his dog, retired super assassin John Wick retrieves his beloved 1969 Mustang from the Russian mobsters who stole it, only to be pursued in a spectacular high-speed car chase through crowded New York City streets. Returning home, John’s plans to resume a quiet civilian life are cut short when Italian gangster Santino D’Antonio (Riccardo Scamarcio) shows up on his doorstep with a gold “marker” compelling him to repay past favors. The last 24 hours have seen the release of three trailers for upcoming movies, including a brand new (and unexpected) thriller from Jordan Peele, and two powerful looking dramas. Come inside to check them out!
Sometimes, movie news likes to land all at once, with multiple things hitting at the same time. Such was the case with these three trailers, so instead of spreading them out over a few articles, I thought it'd be easier to lump them all together...Especially considering these are the first trailers for all three films. Let's start out with something unexpected:
Get Out comes as a big surprise being written and direted by Jordan Peele (Key & Peele). No one knew he was making this movie, let alone a thriller that seems at odds with his normal wheelhouse. Either way, it looks kinda neat, even if the trailer gives away most of it.

Oscilloscope Laboratories is responsible for bringing some offbeat, strange movies to larger audiences. They're the ones who have given movies like Exit Through The Gift Shop, Bellflower, Samsara, and Meek's Cutoff either theatrical or home video releases, and their latest film looks way more "out there" than those films. Here's the trailer for Joel Potrykus' The Alchemist Cookbook, a trippy-looking movie about a guy living alone out in the woods who starts messing with chemicals and eventually encounters Satan (yep). I don't know if this is something I'll be checking out personally, but I'm sure some of you will dig the stylized weirdness you'll find here.
There's no official release date set, but you can pre-order the movie for $14.99 on Oscilloscope's website right here. What do you think?
Young outcast Sean has isolated himself in a trailer in the woods, setting out on alchemic pursuits, with his cat Kaspar as his sole companion.

Premiere magazine highlighted 10 movie executives to watch in 1990. So what happened to them?
In its May 1990 issue, the sadly-missed Us version of Premiere magazine published an article, highlighting ten young movie executives, and suggesting that these were people with very big futures ahead of them in the industry.
Given that much is written about movie executives, without actually digging much deeper to find out who they actually are, I thought it was worth tracing what happened to these ten, and – 26 years later – whether Premiere was correct in saluting them as the future of the industry. So, er, I did...

The last few days of 2015 are spent in reflection about the year that's just wrapping up and in anticipation of the year just ahead, at least for me, and since we had our ten best list last week, this week it's time for the runners-up, the fifteen films that also filled out our year. As always, I look at this list and I think it would make a perfectly spiffy top ten if that's how things had shaken out, which is to say that the only real purpose of any of these lists is to remind you of more of the experiences that were worth having in a theater. There are plenty of good films that aren't on either of my lists this year. That doesn't mean I didn't like them or they're not good. It just means that these films meant more to me for some reason. For now,...

This one might not come as a huge surprise – FX has ordered season 3 of its acclaimed crime drama Fargo, before season 2 has even come to an end.
Despite his commitments to Fox and Marvel Studios’ in-development Legion series (based on a mutant with split-personality powers), Fargo’s creator Noah Hawley will find time in his schedule to continue writing and producing the Coen-brothers-inspired series for season 3.
“Year two of Fargo is an extraordinary achievement and, given Noah Hawley’s masterful storytelling, we can’t wait to see where the third, all-new version of Fargo takes us,” said Eric Schrier, a big cheese over at FX.
So, it sounds like we’ll be saying goodbye to the current cast of Fargo, just as we wished a fond farewell to Martin Freeman...

If ever there were a question for the ages, it is surely this: Why isn’t Sam Raimi more widely worshipped as a creative genius? Sure, his resume features things like For The Love Of The Game, and Drag Me To Hell, but these are far outweighed by films such as Crimewave, A Simple Plan, and The Gift. His real legacy, however, is the Evil Dead franchise – feverishly adored by millions the world over, and the subject of constant demands for more. These demands are, finally, about to be met when Ash Vs Evil Dead debuts on Starz this Halloween, but a recent promotional event has led to a tantalising glimpse of what once might have been, had the original trilogy continued in cinema.

Nothing can stop "Straight Outta Compton."
The N.W.A. biopic smashed expectations last weekend with its $60.2 million debut, and it showed little sign of slowing down this weekend, when it remained on top with an estimated $26.8 million and a ten-day total of $111.5 million. The movie wasn't hurt by any of the obstacles it faced this week, including the premieres of three new wide releases and several days of bad press over "Compton"'s airbrushing of N.W.A. co-founder Dr. Dre's history of abusive behavior toward women.
Despite all that, the combined total earned by this week's three newcomers added up to less than what "Compton" earned in its second weekend. "Sinister 2" opened in third place (behind four-week-old "Mission: Impossible: Rogue Nation") with an estimated $10.6 million. "Hitman: Agent 47" came in fourth with an estimated $8.2 million. And "American Ultra" opened at No. 6 with an estimated $5.5 million.

As we wait to see what fresh torture "Game of Thrones" has in store for Sansa Stark -- Greyscale? Burning by Melisandre? Here's EW's Spoiler Room conversation with a fan:
I'd like some good news for Game of Thrones for once. - Sean
Well, there is a sex scene in this week's episode that won't make you want to smash your TV. And if you love Cersei, we'll see plenty more of her this week as Olenna Tyrell tries to free her imprisoned family members.
Not smashing our TVs is a good start. We'll take it. Cersei Lannister may be the new beneficiary of bad news, but she can wait her turn after Barristan Selmy,...
