UK news presenter Rageh Omaar is receiving medical care after becoming unwell live on air, ITV News has said.
Viewers took to social media Friday evening to express their concern after Omaar was seen struggling to read the autocue towards the end of News at Ten bulletin. He managed to sign off with a short farewell, and then sat at the studio desk while the credits rolled.
ITV pulled the show from its scheduled re-run on its one-hour-delay channel, and stated Saturday morning:
“We are aware that viewers are concerned about Rageh Omaar’s wellbeing, Rageh became unwell while presenting News at Ten on Friday and is now receiving medical care. He thanks everyone for their well wishes.”
Omaar, who is 56, is a regular anchor for the flagship news program, is also the broadcaster’s international affairs editor and presents the current affairs show On Assignment from around the world.

Exclusive: The BBC is confident that it will stem the flow of its presenter exodus by signing a new deal with its highest-profile news anchor.
Deadline can reveal that BBC sources expect Huw Edwards to commit himself to the broadcaster for up to three years, ending speculation about his future.
Edwards, 61, is the BBC’s best-known and joint highest-paid news presenter. He has spoken recently about scaling back his duties, but BBC insiders are optimistic they have convinced him to stay after his standout year in 2022.
Edwards was in the chair when the BBC first reported the news of Queen Elizabeth II’s death last September. He remained ever-present on-screen during the period of national mourning and the funeral, winning praise for the tone and eloquence of his reporting during a historically significant moment.

The very concept of “Nsfw” counts double when your computer monitor faces a live television camera — remember that, grads. One BBC employee clearly never learned that lesson, and was recently caught on live TV watching an inappropriate video at work. YouTubers have made sure this thing isn’t missed by the masses. The guilty party was sitting mere yards behind “News at Ten” anchor Sophie Raworth, who was oblivious to the evening’s extra-interesting backdrop. There are other people seen moving around the newsroom at the time, so this wasn’t a very stealth operation. Also Read: YouTube Content Boss: I Don't Know 'What.

Line Of Duty cements its status as the most thrilling drama on television with a stunning finale to a stunning series…
This review contains spoilers.
Like many a modern idiot, around my wrist is a special watch that monitors my heart-rate. It syncs with my phone and shows me a graph of what my pulse is doing at any given moment. If I were ever to kill someone, I suspect it could be used to incriminate me. Murder must play havoc on the cardiovascular system.
Fifteen minutes before the end of Line Of Duty’s series three finale, you’ll see a significant spike on the graph. My body was sitting lazily on the sofa; my heart was doing laps of the park. This might be the first occasion on which I hand over my TV reviewing responsibilities to a Fitbit.

Tom Bradby is the new face of ITV's News at Ten, as the broadcaster announced a shake-up of its news schedule.

"News at Ten is one of the best known and loved news brands in the country and I have hugely enjoyed working for it in 25 years on the road with ITV News," said Bradby, who will start in his new role this autumn.

Alex pays a fond return revisit to 1960s classic TV series, The Avengers...
Stylish crime fighting, despicable evil masterminds, a bowler-hatted old Etonian gentleman spy and a series of beautiful leather cat-suited, kinky-booted, no-nonsense heroines. The Avengers had all this and more. What began as a monochrome tape series in January 1961 ran the whole of the Sixties, becoming a colourful slice of period hokum, full of flair, wit and sophistication, yet with its tongue firmly in its cheek.
Always the perfect gentleman, John Steed was played by Patrick Macnee. Originally billed second to the late Ian Hendry, Macnee was still playing Steed over 15 years later when he was teamed with the youthful duo of Joanna Lumley and Gareth Hunt for The New Avengers in 1976. In the 1998 film, the role of Steed was given to Ralph Fiennes and Uma Thurman played Emma Peel. I will say no more about the film.

Okay, so we might not be wearing our gladrags and we might not be sipping champagne, but who says a onesie and a takeaway can't be glamorous?
It's BAFTA night, and while we're not at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane with all the best and brightest from the last year of television, at least we can join the party from our sofas. Yep, we'll be blogging along with the awards - which start at 8pm on BBC One - so grab your slippers and a cuppa and join in by tweeting @digitalspy and leaving your comments below...
And as a reminder, the awards actually start in "real life" at 7pm - but we'll be doggedly going along with the television broadcast and pretending we're not an hour behind everyone else, so there's no fear of spoilers. If you want things as they happen, we'll be updating our winners' list here.

Judi Dench is a delight in the moving, surprisingly funny film of the true life scandal of the baby sold to adoption by the Catholic church, which has just premiered at Venice

Is it possible to tell a good human interest story without descending to mawkishness? That's the dilemma faced by the journalist hero of Stephen Frears's new film and it is also, by implication, the problem confronting the drama itself as it embarks on its task of spinning glucose into gold. Thankfully, not every human interest story is trashy by nature. Not every happy ending is therefore also a lie. The birth of Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge's baby boy brought in an audience of 4.9 million (22.2%) across various news channels last night, overnight data reveals.
However, the Duchess of Cambridge's new arrival failed to dislodge Coronation Street as the most-watched broadcast of the evening. The ITV soap pulled in over 7.4 million for both its episodes at 7.30pm and 8.30pm.
BBC One's special Royal Baby News Update brought 2.9 million (13.4%) to BBC One at 8.30pm, while 3.9 million (13.4%) tuned in for the 10 O'Clock News. ITV's News at Ten also pulled in over 2 million viewers.
BBC Two had 2.05 million (9.89%) at 8pm for University Challenge. However, the strong lead-in didn't help sitcom Count Arthur Strong, which only managed 692k (3.1%) at 8.30pm.
Channel 4 struggled again to pull in any sizable audiences, only managing 1.44 million (6.75%) at 9pm for Undercover Boss.
The latest series of Big Brother remains steady for Channel 5, grabbing 1.41 million (7.9%) at 10pm.

Rather than replacing the comedy clip show, the explosion of homemade videos on sites like YouTube has given the genre a whole new lease of life.
Following Totally Viral, Rude Tube and Robert's Web comes Seann Walsh World, which intercuts web footage with Walsh's stand-up and some connected sketches.
Ahead of the launch of the show this week on Comedy Central, Digital Spy spoke to Seann all about it.
How did you get involved in the show?
"Comedy Central wanted to do a show that had internet clips, and that sounded fun to me if we could do stand-up and sketches off the clips - use the clips to branch off. We were able, so I was really happy with that."
How involved are you in actually choosing the clips ?
"Fortunately I have a nice team that will go through loads and loads of clips and then we'll eventually go through them.

✒Some of those who relished the Pirandellian spectacle of the BBC's coverage of the Queen's visit to New Broadcasting House on Friday (climaxing in especially postmodern fashion with her contribution to a Radio 4 special about, well, her visit to New Broadcasting House) consulted the maps for BBC staff of the "goldfish bowl" newsroom, as previously reproduced in MediaGuardian. And, yes, the spot where Hm stood as she appeared panto-style behind the news presenters is the No 1 no-go area, marked "please don't stand here".

ITV has picked up three coveted awards from The Royal Television Society (Rts) for its coverage of the Jimmy Savile sex abuse scandal.
At an awards ceremony held last night (February 20) in London, ITV documentary Exposure: The Other Side of Jimmy Savile won 'Scoop of the Year', beating entries from Al Jazeera and Panorama.
The jury members praised the Exposure documentary as being "a sensation without ever being sensationalist".
"They felt an investigative challenge which had defeated other media organisations over decades had been achieved with commitment, skill and sensitivity," said an Rts statement.
"The programme-makers had given a voice to victims who had always been denied one, with unprecedented impact across many British institutions."
Exposure: The Other Side of Jimmy Savile also picked up the 'Current Affairs - Home' award, while ITV News's coverage of the ensuing scandal around late BBC star Savile was honoured with the 'News Coverage - Home' accolade.

The iconic broadcaster hosted the channel's flagship evening news show from 1992 before retiring in 2005. McDonald explained that he was "flattered" to be asked back to the show by ITV, but realises he should have stayed away. But since then the air has seeped out of the Westminster bubble and not even the prospect of global economic collapse has succeeded in reflating public interest or screenwriters' conspiratorial imagination. As the controversy surrounding Rep. While most of the spot was devoted to placing the rampant speculation into context, Hall did make a few novel points, such as the possibility that the photograph in question was from a "prior relationship," which would explain the Congressman's current caginess, without the presumption of guilt that accompanies much of the current speculation.

As 2010 draws to a close, we celebrate the year's 10 most underrated performances...
As we head into awards season, the likes of Colin Firth and Helena Bonham Carter are hotly tipped to pick up nominations at the very least, if not actual gongs for their acting in The King's Speech. Christian Bale made a big old physical transformation for The Fighter, as did Natalie Portman for Black Swan. But those two films won't come out until 2011 in the UK, and nor will The King's Speech.
The tendency is to award stuff that comes out at the very end of the year, and so a lot of good performances earlier in the movie calendar are forgotten. Most of these actors didn't undergo gruelling physical transformations or star in the kind of film that Oscar likes to reward. They were just good. Maybe not Oscar good, but they were undervalued, either in reviews...

Melvyn Bragg and Simon Cowell awarded gongs; BBC up for more awards than other broadcasters
The Bafta winners in full
Julie Walters made a plea last night for more money to be allocated to drama as she scooped the leading actress award at the TV Baftas for her portrayal of the late Labour politician Mo Mowlam.
"Important drama touches people," said the actor, who was honoured for her role in the Channel 4 production Mo, but had also been nominated for her performance in A Short Stay In Switzerland, the BBC1 drama inspired by the story of Dr Anne Turner, who took her own life in Zurich in 2006.
"I'm not saying it changes the world, but seeds are planted. It's really important and, yes, the money should be made available," Walters said.

Can Matt Damon's half-fiction set the benchmark for a popular history of the Iraq war? Now is the moment for the Iraqi war film. Less than a week after the low-budget The Hurt Locker won Oscars for best picture and best director, Paul Greengrass's big-budget Green Zone has hit the screens. Following a series of Iraq war flops, the latest efforts show how the fictional Iraq has the potential to overshadow the reality.
