Fighting tooth and nail to reunite with their defensive platoon, the weary Greek soldiers, Pavlos, and the gravely wounded, Andreas, find themselves trapped behind enemy lines. There, on the battle-scarred mainland of Asia Minor in 1922, Andreas entrusts Pavlos with the task of protecting his young wife, Maria, and after a heart-breaking farewell, Pavlos returns to his hometown of Abelakia. As Maria and Pavlos are convinced that Andreas is killed in action, they decide to get married; however, on a rainy New Year's Eve, Andreas miraculously appears, bent on revenge. Will the three of them survive the night and the heavy downpour?
