“Deepa & Anoop” — a new colorful, animated preschool series from Mattel, Inc. — will premiere on Netflix on Aug. 15, TheWrap can exclusively reveal. The show’s accompanying trailer, which TheWrap has the first look at, depicts the adorable adventures of 7-year-old Deepa and her best friend Anoop, a color-changing baby elephant.
The music-driven series — which includes a Bollywood number in each episode — marks Mattel’s first foray into animated shows based on original IP.
Here’s a logline for the series: “The dynamic duo, self-appointed ‘concierges of fun,’ makes everything bigger, grander and more wonderful for guests at Mango Manor, the bed and breakfast run by Deepa’s multigenerational family.”
Promising kids episodes chock-full of “music, merriment and mischief,” the trailer depicts the inevitable mess that results when Deepa attempts to make the “gooiest concoction the world has ever seen.”

Everett Peck, the illustrator and cartoonist who created the irreverent Jason Alexander-starring animated series Duckman, has died. He was 71.
Peck died Tuesday in Solana Beach, California, of complications from a long battle with pancreatic cancer, his wife, Helen, told The Hollywood Reporter.
Peck created Duckman for a 1990 one-off comic book published by Dark Horse Comics while pitching the idea for an adults-only animated series. It finally made it to the air in 1994 on the USA Network via Klasky-Csupo (the original production company behind The Simpsons), ran four seasons through 1997 and was nominated for three Emmys.
“Duckman represents the plight of the little guy in an ever more complex and demanding world,” Peck said in a 2009 interview. “Like many of us, he struggles to break even but is ultimately squashed by powers far beyond his control.”

Emmy wished on a dragon scale
And that's what started Dragon Tales
Around the room, the dragons flew
But Emmy and Max knew what to do
They climbed on the backs of their dragon friends
Now the adventures never end
Dragon Tales, Dragon Tales
It's almost time for Dragon Tales
Come along, take my hand
Let's all go to Dragon Land
There's Ord, he's the biggest
Not so brave of heart
There's Cassie, so shy
Oh, so very smart
There's Zak and Wheezie
In these tales of fun
Cause you know two heads are better than one
Dragon Tales, Dragon Tales
It's almost time for Dragon Tales
Come along, take my hand

The goal of many cartoons in this day and age is to entertain and educate the children that watch them, which is what Dragon Tales did from 1999 to 2005. While it can be argued that some cartoons go above and beyond when it comes to educating children, others seem to miss the mark entirely or go a little too in depth for their age bracket. Dragon Tales however was one of those shows that managed to incorporate fun tale of fantasy along with a lot of life lessons that were valuable to children in many different ways. The whole

I adore the original Mean Girls. It's the one thing I turn to, like a Catholic with a statue of the Virgin Mary or a date rapist to his Dane Cook DVDs, when I need to re-establish my faith that Lindsay Lohan will one day rise like a phoenix from the ashes of her sundered career. It showcased both Tim Meadows and Tina Fey in a bra and the females of SNL worth a damn and Tiny Fey in a bra. The original Mean Girls actually worked: all the wacky antics and slapstick was centered on the actual plot like a Cary Grant comedy.
This straight to DVD monstrosity is like a parasite that crawled up the ass of a cheerleader as she was humped against a moist gym sock stuck to the backseat of the captain of the wrestling team. It hollowed out the shell, retained the name, and...

Holly BuczekCasting director, Vital Theatre Company, New York; 'Pinkalicious!,' 'The Klezmer Nutcracker' Our shows are new musicals, so we are looking for actors who are open and enthusiastic about the process, as well as fitting the roles that we're seeking. I don't only call people in who have children's-theater experience, but it is helpful for me to know that they are open and willing to do theater for young audiences, as some people are kind of resistant to that. I also look at special talents, because I always find that actually shows a lot about the actor's personality. You have to be a very expressive, open, creative, and honest performer who is enthusiastic and excited to take risks and make sort of wild, exciting choices. Obviously, we would love to have performers in our shows who love children, but you don't specifically have to love children to be able...

London - The Mutant Chronicles unleashes cannibalistic humanoids into a steam punk World War I world. The movie features Thomas Jane (Hung), Ron Perlman (Hellboy), Devon Aoki (Sin City), Sean Pertwee (Doomsday) and John Malkovich (Being John Malkovich) as the only defense against these ungodly creatures in the CGI enhanced environment. Can Aoki cut them all down with her cool sword?
Director Simon Hunter took nearly two years to adapt the role playing game into a cinematic universe. You can get great sense of what he undertook for his first major motion picture on the Two-disc Collector’s Edition DVD and the Blu-ray recently released by Magnolia Home Entertainment. I had a chance to swap questions via email with Hunter. Here’s the Q&A action:

(In Part 1 of this interview (read it here), Wesley Eure recounted his days as a teen idol on Day Of Our Lives and Land Of The Lost, as well as his experiences on the sets of The Toolbox Murders and Jennifer. At this point in his acting career, Eure starts to feel the negative effects of being a gay actor in Hollywood.)
After Jennifer and C.H.O.M.P.S, there’s an eight year gap in Eure’s IMDb.com listing. As I tactfully dance around the subject – “So, right after C.H.O.M.P.S. there’s sort of a…things slowed down…uh, and I wonder…” – Eure jumps in. “What happened? Well, first I got fired from Days, I’m told because I’m gay. The producers didn’t say that explicitly. They gave me all sorts of excuses, like I was too short, I wasn’t aging enough and...

For many gay and bisexual men of a certain age, the first inkling that they weren’t like other boys came on Saturday mornings from 1974 to 1976, in the form of a television show called The Land of the Lost. The show, about a father and his two children who were stranded in a mysterious land of dinosaurs, also featured vicious, but curiously slow-moving reptilian humanoids called Sleestak. Now the classic kids’ program by Sid and Marty Krofft, the producers of H.R. Pufnstuf and Sigmund and the Sea Monsters, has even been made into a feature film starring Will Ferrell, opening this Friday.
But it wasn’t just the gloriously campy-even-at-the-time nature of the show itself that appealed to gay boys. It was also the fact that it featured the role of Will, the Marshall’s handsome teenage son, played by an actor billed only as “Wesley,” but whose full name is Wesley Eure.
