‘Easy’ Season 2 Review: Grading Every Episode of Joe Swanberg’s Intimate and Exciting Netflix Series
Joe Swanberg is back! After a fairly under-the-radar Season 1 release in September 2016, Season 2 got the similar low-key marketing treatment before dropping the first day of December.
But don’t take the lack of buzz as a lack of import. Season 1 asked a lot of valuable questions while delivering a beautiful and unique realization of modern Chicago. The anthology approach, with each episode functioning as a standalone short, helped cover a lot of cultural ground, and Season 2 continues that pattern in interesting ways.

While the episodes can certainly stand on their own, many bring back characters from Season 1. Context from earlier episodes isn’t prescient, but it does help, and just like last year, some stories are better than others.
To that end, IndieWire has reviewed each episode individually below and ranked them by their assigned grades.

Monaco’s royal twins Princess Gabriella and Prince Jacques have an itinerary that rivals any celebrity in the world!
First up for the pair, who turn 3 on December 10, is Monaco’s National Day on November 19, which will see them take part in the royal family’s traditional balcony wave. Afterwards, their busy schedule includes holiday and birthday events with dad Prince Albert and mom Princess Charlene and an appearance at the palace’s annual Christmas gift party.
Next year, their itinerary will broaden considerably when they accompany their parents on a “halfway-around-the-world” trip, their father tells People.

LeeAnne Locken came into this season of The Real Housewives of Dallas a changed person, working hard in therapy to improve her behavior and form stronger bonds with castmates Brandi Redmond, Stephanie Hollman and Cary Deuber.
Unfortunately for her, the “old LeeAnne” snuck out from time to time. And though that gave season 2 its most memorable moments — including Locken’s infamous “they’re just hands but they work quite well” rant — Redmond, Hollman and Deuber were apparently so frightened by her behavior that they came into Monday’s season 2 reunion claiming they no longer felt safe around the Dallas Housewife.

We need to talk about Kevin.
This Is Us‘ Kate hit rock bottom regarding her weight in the series premiere. Brother Randall followed her with an emotional breakdown in Episode 15. And now, given the way that Kevin drinks, drugs and growls his way through this week’s hour, the clock is ticking on how long it’ll be before the last Pearson kid is at the deep end of his very own personal nadir. (And no, the Manny tirade doesn’t count.)
Oh, and did you know Jack had a brother?...

Just adding to the story below, David Fincher has given a further, brief update to Little White Lies on the state of World War Z 2. Siggy Flicker may have brought Margaret Josephs into her friend circle on The Real Housewives of New Jersey, but if it were up to her on Wednesday night’s episode, she would have kicked Josephs out too.
Bravo’s newest Housewife was enemy no. 1 for Flicker on season 8’s all-new episode, after she threw a surprise memorial ceremony for Teresa Giudice‘s deceased mother during their cast trip to Boca Raton, Florida, without giving Flicker — who had unknowingly skipped the beach day outing thinking it was just a yoga trip — a heads-up first.

“Marvel’s Inhumans” no longer has the ignominious distinction of holding the lowest-possible score on Rotten Tomatoes. That said, the ABC drama series’ team may want to hold back on popping the champagne just yet. “Inhumans,” which has maintained a zero on the review-aggregate site since last week, received its first positive review on Tuesday. When averaged together with the 13 negative appraisals, this brings the show’s score to a still-not-exactly-sterling 7. Baby steps. The favorable review comes from Common Sense Media, a site geared toward warning parents about content deemed objectionable for children. This episode of Grey's Anatomy was a bit of a mixed bag. On the upside, it was a vast improvement over the last episode's pretentious and preachy outing. On the downside "Jukebox Hero" felt like an episode in limbo. So many questions. So few answers. Baby steps, yes. Better than nothing, but not entirely satisfying either. And then there was the Alex Karev of it all. To which I can only ask yet again: Seriously? Seriously??? More on that later. Hold that thought.

A new beginning, a resolution, an escape or falling back into the same old tricks.
Girlfriends' Guide to Divorce Season 3 Episode 4 had a little bit of everything, most of which was refreshing and exciting. Unfortunately, with the good comes the not-so-good, and we weren't spared that, either.
With Abby making new friends in Bakersfield and Jo, Delia and Phoebe playing fast and free in Palm Springs, there's a lot of ground to cover. Let's go!
Kudos to the team for that opening shot, because despite the title and the previews to the contrary, I got so caught up in the moment I really thought Abby had decided to drive to Palm Springs separately from the others and was on her way.
So what a fun surprise that Jo, Delia and Phoebe were without their "leader" for the weekend.
Odd that I consider Abby their ringleader, but as their mutual connection,...

This show has gotten some pretty great guest stars, but it doesn't always put them to the best use. I was pretty disappointed that Meredith Baxter spent most of her time unconscious on a gurney. What's the point of booking a known name if you knock them out after ten minutes?
The measles storyline deserved more attention too. Honestly, I could have done without the love triangle rescue workers if it meant more time with Mrs. Keaton Ms. Baxter. It was more than a little cliched and other than highlighting how patients spill their...

Sheldon and Amy take another big step forward in their relationship on The Big Bang Theory Season 10 Episode 4, and it's about damn time.
Sure, it's only temporary, but it wouldn't be fitting if moving in together wasn't still something Sheldon and Amy took slowly. Baby steps, you guys. Baby steps.
It's really the perfect way to handle it. Amy's in need of a place to stay after a pipe in her apartment bursts, and it makes perfect sense for her to stay with Sheldon. Penny's suggestion is that Amy stay in Sheldon's apartment and let Leonard stay in Penny's, but Sheldon is hesitant.
To be fair, Amy's kind of hesitant, too.
She convinces him to give it a try (it would be a five-week arrangement) by appealing to his love for science.

Last Week’S Review: Margot Robbie Hosts the Premiere of America’s Rebuilding Season
After a reasonably strong outing last week, “Saturday Night Live” returned this week with first-time host Lin-Manuel Miranda and musical guest twenty one pilots. Oh Audrey, you had so many chances to tell Emma the truth before she found out another way.
Of course Audrey should have told her sooner, but really, making that call to Noah was what really screwed her.
If she hadn't made that call, maybe she would have had time to finally tell Emma her side of the story on Scream Season 2 Episode 8.
Poor Noah is doing everything right and it is just not happening for him. Well, everything except turning his phone off, or at least putting it on silent. He learned from last time and locked the door at least. If he gets a next time, he'll remember the phone. Baby steps, buddy.
He and Zoe really do make an adorable couple. The bow tie and the cotton candy bouquet to match her dress were nice touches. Thank goodness she didn't go with that god-awful yellow poofy thing.

In its third season, the ordinarily extraordinary Masters of Sex careened between the sublime (“Party of Four”) and the ridiculous (the less said about “Monkey Business,” the better). But at least in its season finale, the Showtime drama wasn’t, er, messing around. Not only did the hour deliver the Bill/Libby showdown we’ve long craved, it also marked a major turning point in Bill and Virginia’s on-again/off-again relationship. How major? Read on…

They get a bad rap for being lazy, but clearly cats are working on that - one paw at a time. When Rudiger the kitty is faced with a 4-ft. wall of snow outside his front door, he doesn't retreat to his donut bed in the living room for a cat nap, he puts his paws up and starts digging through the white stuff - with no kitten mittens! That's akin to a boxer facing a fierce opponent without any boxing gloves. At first, it seems like the cat is digging a tunnel to nowhere, until he decides that the...

Getting swept up in a mass wave of superhero movie hype is extremely fun and everyone should do it. To that point, we at Fsr have done just that — note the many “Is Marvel Doing This? Will Marvel Do That?” think pieces borne of last week’s Marvel Studios Phase Three party. But there’s an angle to this great Internet Hype Train that seems a tad off-message. Specifically that, with Black Panther and Captain Marvel, Marvel Studios has become a glimmering beacon of superhero diversity, now and forever. Obviously, Black Panther and Captain Marvel are paragons of the non-white, non-male superhero set, and Marvel deserves applause just as DC does for expanding its film slate to include actors and characters that offer a wider representation of the population that’s actually going to see these movies (and, in much smaller numbers, reading the comics). Except the general response has painted Black Panther as Captain Marvel as...

Hosting a major awards show is a thankless task. Just ask David Letterman and Seth MacFarlane. (Don’t even bother asking James Franco.) Seth Meyers, who won almost unanimous praise for hosting the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner in 2011, received mixed reviews in his first stint as Emmy host Monday night, with his hometown tabloid detractors pointing to a perception of passiveness that yielded the stage to other, more dynamic performers. But perhaps he should be commended for sharing the spotlight so generously, letting others shine, and keeping the three-hour show moving. Nothing wrong with getting by with a little help from one’s friends,...

Ask any screenwriter and director currently involved in a young franchise and they'll say the same thing. We haven't met the characters yet. We haven't established the universe. Baby steps, etc. It gets a little frustrating because for once you'd like to see one movie without being pressured into seeing another. The new Star Trek seems pretty well-developed, however, so it's a little unusual to see Star Trek 3 director Roberto Orci reveal that there's much to learn about this crew's final frontier. During a podcast with Humans From Earth, Roberto Orci claims that for the next entry in the Star Trek saga, they'll be going where no man has gone before (spoiler: space). In [Into Darkness] they set out finally where the original series started. The first two films . especially the 2009 [Star Trek] . was an origin story. It was about them coming together. So they weren.t the characters they ...

In yet another excellent episode of Shameless, the season’s twin leitmotifs of daddy issues and prostitution both got considerable play, a few Awol characters returned unannounced, and one of the Gallaghers stole a live reptile. And it wasn’t the one you would expect. Oh – and that screaming you heard at 9:59 Edt last night? That was the sound of the universe reacting to Fiona’s making the worst decision in a long history of worst decisions. Let’s dig in!
Fiona (Emmy Rossum) showers and dresses for… an interview? She and Lip (Jeremy Allen White) discuss bills, and she is adamant that he not leave school to support the family. She’ll take care of it.
