Gravitas Ventures gave the shark thriller Deep Fear a VOD release in the United States and Canada on November 3rd, and the movie also received a release through the Netflix streaming service in Brazil earlier this month. If you haven’t taken a look at Deep Fear yet, we have a clip to share with you that might get you to give it a chance. The clip can be seen in the embed above and features a shark burying its face in a load of cocaine, bringing to mind this year’s earlier “nature run amok” release Cocaine Bear.
Directed by Marcus Adams (Long Time Dead) from a screenplay written by Robert Capelli Jr. (The Rules (for Men)) and Sophia Eptamentis (Invincible Summer), Deep Fear centers on Naomi, a yachtswoman embarking on a solo trip in the Caribbean. Her last stop is Grenada, where she plans to rendezvous with her boyfriend Jackson,...

Deep Fear, not to be confused with last year’s film about monsters under the streets of Paris (which is probably why they added the “Sharks vs Narcs” subtitle to the film for its digital release), is a call back to the shark films of the past. Not to Jaws or its imitators but to something earlier, like Shark!, Shark’s Treasure, and The Deep where the sharks were a secondary plot element, an added threat for the protagonists to face in addition to other humans.
In the case of Deep Fear that would be Naomi whom we first see showing her co-worker Barney how easily a reef shark can be steered away from people. When she surfaces her partner Jackson that he’s booked another tour.

“Deep Fear,” the upcoming shark thriller starring “Gossip Girl’s” Ed Westwick and “House of Gucci’s” Madalina Ghenea, has gone into production in Malta.
The feature has also added Stany Coppet (“Vikings: Valhalla”) and Macarena Gomez (“Shrew’s Nest”), who will play drug traffickers Jose and Maria, as well as Ibrahima Gueye (“The Life Ahead”) who will play a boat hand called Barney.
“Deep Fear” sees Ghenea star as accomplished yachtswoman Naomi who embarks on a solo trip through the Caribbean to meet her boyfriend Jackson (played by Westwick) in Grenada.
When a storm forces Naomi of course, she encounters survivors of a shipwreck who, it soon transpires, are actually drug traffickers. They force Naomi to dive into the hull of their sunken ship to retrieve their shipment of cocaine, where she encounters a frenzy of vicious tiger sharks, whom she must outwit to survive.

Breck Eisner, is reported by THR to be one of the lead candidates to direct the Ouija Board movie. Eisner presented studio executives with his pitch and vision for the film which will shy away from horror and instead have more of an adventure focus. Eisner is currently in the planning phase for his remake of the classic film Escape From New York, but after Universal Studios rejected pitches from other directors they invited him to propose his own take on the film. The Ouija Board film is estimated to be released in at least two years with a possible release date of November 9th 2012. When it was announced that the second Hasbro property after the gates, following Peter Berg's actioner "Battleship," would be "Ouija," based on the board game that's been succesfully freaking out teenagers for decades, most, including us, assumed it would be some kind of teen horror flick--after all, the likes of "Drag Me To Hell" and "Long Time Dead" have used the system as a conceit within the horror genre. But Universal have given the film a key tentpole slot, on November 9th, 2012, and we began to suspect that the film might…...

It's an odd week for DVD and Blu-ray lovers with a couple of new releases but mostly just a lot of rehashes and semi-strange pairings such as Identity and Secret Window .
In the "new" category are The Wolfman (our by default pick of the week), Long Time Dead (about some college kids and a Ouija board -- those stories never end well), Killer Swarm (a made-for-German-tv movie Foy told us about a few months ago), and horror/comedy Cornered! starring Steve Guttenberg.
Then we get stuff like I Know What You Did Last Summer/I Still Know What You Did Last Summer on Blu-ray, four "Dreadtime Stories Double Features", Darkman 2 and III (no doubt in anticipation of the original Darkman's Blu-ray release on June 15th), and finally!, a proper release of Chad Ferrin's Easter Bunny, Kill! Kill!
Some of those other duos mentioned previously include The Marsh/Bats, Silent Hill/Ultraviolet on Blu-ray,...

Ghosts have to get a new hobby. Seriously. They die in a specific place, probably tortured and murdered there, then haunt that location and raise hell for the living. We've seen it time and time again, now see it in The Reeds , a UK chiller from Nick Cohen ( Voodoo Lagoon ) starring Scarlett Alice Johnson and Geoff Bell ( Rocknrolla ). Long Time Dead scribe Chris Baker penned the story with Mark Anthony Galluzzo. And the premise is simple: A boating party gets lost in the ancient waterways of the Norfolk Broads and finds itself victim of a terrifying secret hidden in the reeds. Said "secret" appears to be a bunch of dead thugs (one of them charred, it seems), according to the trailer which we got our hands on. See for yourself below. Hopefully this will have...

LONDON -- Leo Gregory, Eva Birthistle and Margo Stilley will star in the low-budget Brit horror flick Reverb, the producer said Monday. The movie details the story of a struggling musician who samples an old record in a studio and discovers a voice hidden in the music before a series of horrific events unfolds. Writer-director Eitan Arrusi (Long Time Dead), making his directorial debut, said he is thrilled with the project. "Music plays an important narrative in the film so I am very pleased to be working with the hugely talented music producer Jack Knife Lee, who has written the signature track for the film," Arrusi said. Produced by Frank Mannion of Swipe Films, the film began shooting Monday on location in London. No budget was revealed for the film, which is privately financed by Reverb Prods. and International Film Collective Ltd. Keith Hayley and Robert Bevan are executive producing. Swipe Films also is acting as the worldwide sales agent for the movie and aims to release it into theaters across the U.K. later this year.

British actress Marsha Thomason will star opposite Eddie Murphy in the big-screen adaptation of the popular Disney theme park attraction Haunted Mansion. Thomason, who made her U.S. film debut opposite Martin Lawrence in the 2001 comedy Black Knight, will play Murphy's wife in the film about a work-obsessed father (Murphy) whose encounter with a ghost makes him realize the importance of his own family. Mansion is being directed by Rob Minkoff and produced by Andrew Gunn of Gunn Films and Don Hahn. The film was penned by David Berenbaum and is being overseen at the studio by production execs Brigham Taylor and Louanne Brickhouse. Production is scheduled to begin Jan. 6. Mansion is the latest project for Thomason in what has been a busy year. The actress recently wrapped the Miramax comedy My Baby's Mama opposite Eddie Griffin and can next be seen opposite Lukas Haas in the Working Title thriller Long Time Dead. Thomason is repped by Melanie Greene Management, Sue Latimer at ARG in London and attorney Fred Toczek.
