By the late 90's both William Hanna and Joseph Barbera were mostly retired, serving only as advisors or honorary producers and could feel quite strongly about a project if they felt it was disrespectful to their creations, and the Yogi Bear shorts made by John Kricfalusi were targets of their ire. According to Iwao Takamoto, Barbera hated John K's Yogi Bear shorts so much he wanted the man dead.
This short film is dedicated to veteran Hanna-Barbera animator Ed Benedict, who contributed to this work.
Despite being produced by Spumco in association with Cartoon Network Studios instead of Hanna-Barbera, it also features the latter's logo at the end of this short.
Originally there was a fight sequence between Yogi and Ranger Smith which was cut from TV airings due to both over the top extreme violence and torturing situations.
