Sandra Bullock is one of the most respected and well-known celebrities in Hollywood. With a lengthy career in various genres and mediums, she has created a reputation as a successful and talented actress. When it comes to celebrities as high-profile as her, it is only natural that every aspect of their lives, public or private, will be carefully dissected by the world. This is especially true when it comes to their romantic lives.
Sandra Bullock in Ocean’s Eight (2018)
Long before his rise to fame, Ryan Gosling was involved with Bullock. The pair dated for two years, until they ultimately split up. What many might not know is that their relationship was seriously condemned by many because of the age gap between the two stars. The actress was thirty-seven at the time, and Gosling was just twenty-one.
Interestingly enough, Bullock actually spoke up about their age gap, as well as the criticism she was getting.

Sandra Bullock partially made her career off of action films like Speed and Demolition Man. Although the genre treated her well enough, she wasn’t always sure if it was designed for female actors to thrive in.
Sandra Bullock felt action films did women a disservice in the 2000s Sandra Bullock | Axelle/Bauer-Griffin/FilmMagic
Bullock believed the action genre became even less accommodating to female actors as time went on. Ironically, she herself experienced her breakthrough role opposite Keanu Reeves in Speed. This led to a bit of a career winning streak for Bullock that saw the Oscar-winner return to the genre a couple of times.
In 2002, she starred in the darker action thriller Murder by Numbers. Perhaps what intrigued her the most about the feature was the character she ended up playing. She felt the role was a callback to characters from another time that all but vanished in the new millennium.

She has a plan to wring a confession from him, but Jeff doesn’t plan to do down without a fight.

Bullock’s Badly Behaved Baboon.
After kicking off our month-long theme on toxic masculinity with difficult watches like Funny Games (listen) and Deadgirl (listen), we’re slowing things down a bit this week with Barbet Schroeder‘s 2002 Leopold and Loeb adaptation (of sorts) Murder By Numbers.
In Murder By Numbers, two gifted high school students named Richard and Justin execute a “perfect” murder – then become engaged in an intellectual contest with seasoned homicide detective Cassie Mayweather (Sandra Bullock). The only problem for them is that Cassie has a dark past that she’s been hiding, and it will help her solve the case.

With Spooky Season firmly in the rear view mirror, Trace and I are now mid-way through our month on Toxic Masculinity. And while we probably could have counted Apt Pupil (and maybe even Rob Zombie’s Halloween 2), we officially kicked things off with Michael Haneke’s Funny Games.
Things get considerably darker with our second entry: Marcel Sarmiento and Gadi Harel‘s Deadgirl. The extreme film follows two high school teenage boys – Rickie (Shiloh Fernandez) and Jt (Noah Segan) – who discover a zombie girl (Jenny Spain) in an abandoned hospital and make the horrific decision to use her as a sex object rather than alert the authorities.
As Rickie struggles with his guilty conscience, Jt recruits other “friends” like Wheeler (Eric Podnar) to assault the girl. Things get out of hand, however, when a pair of jocks, including Johnny (Andrew Dipalma) – the boyfriend of Rickie’s crush,...

Ryan Gosling had high profile relationships with a few celebrities. But he doubted it would’ve gotten better than being linked to these 2 A-list actors.

Gosling held his relationships with McAdams and Bullock in high regard. Bullock was the first Gosling dated out of the two. The two met on the set of the feature Murder by Numbers, but they dated for less than two years. Surprise! Legendary director Barbet Schroeder, in Locarno to introduce his latest doc “Ricardo and Painting,” was greeted with a Special Tribute Award before the screening.
“Is this for the film?” Shroeder, a modest man, asked on stage. “No,” said Locarno festival director Giona Nazzaro. “It’s for being Barbet Schroeder.”
Despite focusing on harsher subjects in his previous documentaries, “General Idi Amin Dada: A Self Portrait,” “Terror’s Advocate” or “The Venerable W.,” this time Schroeder decided to follow painter Ricardo Cavallo.
“I have already done my ‘Trilogy of Evil.’ I could continue: the world is full of bad people. But then there was this friend of mine, who I thought was such a good person,” he tells Variety.
Cavallo, convinced that “true life exists in creation,” could teach anyone how to change their way of seeing, claims Schroeder, sacrificing everything for his art.

British director Mike Hodges, known for directing “Get Carter”, “Flash Gordon”, “Croupier” and more, died at his home in Dorset, England, on Dec. 17. He was 90.
Hodges’ longtime friend, Mike Kaplan, confirmed his death to Et calling the late director “a great friend and a great filmmaker.”
“For a part of his career, he was under-appreciated, and he is not anymore,” the film producer shared. “‘Get Carter’ was a huge success all over the world. He had a great sense of humour. All of his movies were entrenched with humour and personality.”
Born in Bristol, England in 1932, Hodges first became an accountant before doing his required military service by serving on a British minesweeper. He began his career in show business as a teleprompter operator for British television.

Breaking through at 50 miles per hour, Sandra Bullock hasn’t slowed down since “Speed.” Although the veteran performer’s first acting credit belongs to a minor part in the 1987 thriller “Hangmen” (which she’d follow up with a handful of straight-to-video releases and TV projects), Bullock didn’t become a household name among movie lovers until the mid ’90s.
After dazzling audiences and the box office as bus-jumping hero Annie Porter in the 1994 smash hit “Speed” opposite Keanu Reeves, Bullock was regularly cast in action-packed suspense flicks and lighter rom-com fare. She’d lead in both Jon Turteltaub’s charming romance “While You Were Sleeping” and Irwin Winkler’s cybercrime thriller “The Net” in 1995. The following year, she’d star in rom-com “Two If By Sea,” legal drama “A Time to Kill,” and historical novel adaption “In Love and War.” Of course, the future two-time Academy Award nominee (one time winner) was just getting started.

Ryan Reynolds has managed to coax beloved 80s actor Rick Moranis out of retirement for a hilarious new ad for his mobile network company, Mint Mobile. The Ghostbusters star has been famously retired from Hollywood since the 90s, when he elected to focus on raising his children. In recent years, he’s appeared in the odd project here and there, but nothing major. Now, though, the Deadpool actor has got him back for this commercial just to give us something to smile about in 2020.
This morning, Reynolds dropped the ad online on his Twitter account. “Today @Mintmobile is launching unlimited for just $30 And bringing back Rick Moranis,” he said in his caption. “Suck it, 2020.”

When he came onboard as artistic director at the Deauville American Film Festival in 1995, Bruno Barde went about retooling the event.
He started by introducing the official competition — to showcase new voices in American independent cinema before a predominantly French jury — and thought to make his vision for the festival clear with an unmistakable visual.
“I saw us as a French perspective on American cinema,” Barde says. “So it’s no accident that the poster [that year] featured a bridge linking Deauville to New York.”
In planning this year’s poster, which features a pensive Kirk Douglas in profile, the festival chief wanted to convey a similar set of intentions.
“When Kirk passed away [in February], I knew we had to honor him. We put him on the poster, with that look towards the future, because he was a man who always looked to the future, who was also a kind of bridge.

Although it still has a long way to go to catch up to Netflix, HBO Max is gradually building a reputation for both an impressive library of content and its own original programming. We now know what’s coming to HBO Max in September, and there’s plenty there for subscribers to sink their teeth into.
The big original series highlight next month is the Ridley Scott-produced Raised by Wolves, which explores two androids raising human children. This month, HBO Max is bring some serious dramatic heat with the Ridley Scott-directed sci-fi series Raised by Wolves arriving on Sept. 3. And if science fiction isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, then HBO Max has identified something that is: true crime. The Murders at White House Farm will arrive at a date to be determined in September.
In addition to those intriguing original offerings, HBO Max is making the best of its WarnerMedia library this month. Doctor Who season 12 makes its long-awaited streaming debut on Sept. 1. Also arriving on the first of the month are Clerks, Election, and the hopefully-not-too-timely V for Vendetta.

Here is everything else coming to HBO Max this month.

Between Netflix, HBO Max, Amazon Prime Video, Hulu and countless others, there’s no shortage of streaming services to subscribe to right now. Indeed, it seems every company is trying to get in on the craze and the latest player in the market is Mint Mobile +.
Never heard of it? We don’t blame you, as it was started by none other than Ryan Reynolds as a joke earlier this week. It only boasts one movie – his 2003 film Foolproof – and despite being nothing but a marketing stunt for Mint Mobile, it’s actually a fully functional platform. One visit to mintmobileplus.com reveals that it’s indeed a real website and is now offering up the aforementioned Foolproof for you to watch, free of charge.
However, not long after announcing its launch, Reynolds took to Twitter to reveal that he now plans to shut the streaming site down and by the end of this weekend,...

Ryan Reynolds never misses an opportunity to take hilarious self-deprecating shots at some of the more ignominious entries from his notoriously checkered CV of movies and television. The latest such example, a campaign for his Mint Mobile premium wireless company, takes a shot at his film flop, Foolproof.
Enter Mint Mobile+, a mock streaming service set up by Reynolds, bearing an accompanying website that entices would-be subscribers by showcasing the content available to stream. However, said content simply consists of one movie, Foolproof, which has been repackaged in numerous entries across the platform’s entire (Disney+ imitating) interface. Reynolds spent the last week dangling this proverbial carrot with “80 minutes” of “bingetastic unoriginals” that will stream in “2003 DVD quality.” Check out his “trailer” for the service just below.

Every tech company needs a streaming service. Or so says Ryan Reynolds.
He does have a point, too. Indeed, in recent months, the streaming market has been flooded with a ton of new platforms all hoping to become the next Netflix. Some have been successful, others not so much. But the trend shows no signs of slowing down and hoping to get in on the fun, Mr. Reynolds has now launched one of his own.
Taking to Twitter, the Deadpool star has announced the debut of Mint Mobile +. Billed as the “world’s most affordable streaming service,” the actor is inviting his fans to “binge over 80 minutes of Ryan Reynolds” in “2003 DVD quality.” Seriously, we’re not kidding. Just see for yourself below…

This weekend, Sony inadvertently celebrated the 18th anniversary of “Spider-Man” when it became known that its Marvel-hero blockbusters share a common tag: the Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters. That mouthful of appellation (Spumc?) inspired derisive blowback, but critics should also give credit where it’s due: After “Spider-Man” opened in 2002, Hollywood has never been the same. The origin myth of Peter Parker went on to create an origin myth of its own: Not only was it the first indication that the Marvel Comics movie universe would become a juggernaut, but it also enshrined the first weekend of May as the real opening of the summer movie season.
“Spider-Man” remains the fifth-biggest Marvel hit, behind the three “Avengers” titles and “Black Panther.” (All figures and comparisons are adjusted to 2020 ticket-price equivalents.) To this day, “Spider-Man” remains the biggest Marvel title not released by Disney.

Ryan Gosling traveled to New Zealand in 1998 to film the kids series “Young Hercules,” in which he played the titular son of Zeus during his warrior training. Shortly afterwards, Gosling decided to move from TV to film and take on more adult roles.
Child actors sometimes have a hard time transitioning to a successful adult career, but Gosling made the jump thanks to his performance in “Remember The Titans.” His previous TV work helped him pick up the role in Disney’s family movie, while the film’s message on race helped him prove that he could handle more thematically heavy work.
In 2001, Gosling burst onto the independent film scene with “The Believer,” in which he played a Jewish neo-Nazi who struggles with self-hatred over his heritage. Critics praised Gosling for his thought-provoking portrayal of the film’s almost paradoxical main character.

When My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 hits theaters this weekend, it will be 14 years since the original film debuted and went on to become one of the biggest sleeper hits at the box office. In April 2002, IFC Films released My Big Fat Greek Wedding in 108 theaters. The small-budget film starring a then-unknown actress (Nia Vardalos) opened against Sandra Bullock's Murder By Numbers and Universal's The Scorpion King, a spinoff to The Mummy Returns. Despite the competition, the little-film-that-could continued to expand and stayed in theaters for nearly a year, ultimately grossing $368 million worldwide.

With Ryan Gosling's 34th birthday on Nov. 12, we're looking back on his time in the Hollywood spotlight. He's been winning hearts and weakening knees for two decades, charming fans on screen and off with his witty one-liners and swoon-worthy smirk. Back in the early '90s, he captured the crowd's attention at a talent show before bringing his smooth moves to The Mickey Mouse Club. From there, Ryan became a teen heartthrob, a romantic leading man, and a fan favorite so lovable that people actually petitioned for him to be People's 2011 Sexiest Man Alive. Most recently, Ryan became a dad. Actually, let's rephrase that - Ryan is officially a hot dad. In honor of his approaching birthday, go all the way back to Ryan's adorable days on the Disney channel to see his heartthrob evolution from adorable crooner to Hollywood's hottest Dilf. It might be hard to believe, but Sandra Bullock turns the big 5-0 on Saturday. In the course of her 20 years of stardom, Bullock has played everything from a duplicitous Cta token collector to a death-defying astronaut, while never sacrificing an ounce of the charm that made her America's Sweetheart. (Well, except maybe in Crash, but that was on purpose.) In honor of Bullock hitting the half-century mark, let's look back at our five favorite roles. Lucy, While You Were Sleeping Bullock earned her fame with a supporting role as the driver of an bomb-laden bus in Speed; when it...

Michael Pitt is the rare actor who, after 15 years in the business (including a stint on Dawson's Creek), remains idiosyncratic and whole. Clocking most of his time with independent filmmakers and esteemed names like Gus Van Sant, Michael Haneke, and Bernardo Bertolucci, Pitt remains a stranger to the throes of studio movies — Murder by Numbers and The Village being rare exceptions. He has never been forced to fit a star mold. His collaborators wouldn't have it any other way. One hundred percent undistilled Pitt ranges from brooding intensity to lunacy of every color. He does what he does, and he does it well. The maturation of television worked in his favor; Boardwalk Empire and NBC's Hannibal have Hollywood sheen and artistic souls. One might describe Pitt the same way.In I Origins, Pitt skews closer to "leading man" territory than ever before. His character, Ian Gray, is a dapper...

Washington, Feb 15: Sandra Bullock is so brokenhearted over her split with ex-boyfriend Ryan Gosling that she fears a run-in with the actor, it has been revealed.
The Gravity star "is nervous about coming face-to-face with Gosling this awards season because he really broke her heart years ago," a source told Radar Online.
Bullock, 49, and Gosling, 33, had a brief romance from 2002-2003 after they met while co-starring in the movie 'Murder by Numbers'.
The source added that the actress is totally mortified about being around Gosling, even though she's the one who helped launch his career more than ten years ago..

Movies and television have a long history of casting effeminate gay men as the bad guys – the added layer of “otherness” is a popular way of making a villain all the more loathsome to a mainstream audience. While recent years have brought us several notable subversions of this idea with aggressively masculine gay villains (Strike Back‘s James Leatherby, Dexter‘s Ivan Sirko), the hissing, scheming gay baddie has always been the more popular stock-in-trade.
Whether explicitly gay or just “coded” that way to slip past the sensors, these guys represent some of cinema’s most notable acts of heteronormative villainy.
Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro) — 300
Much has been made about the fact that a movie that could otherwise have doubled as an International Male swimwear catalog went out of its way to present evil King Xerxes as a prissy, jewelry-crazed predatory homosexual (despite the fact that the actual Xerxes is portrayed...

Oh, Ryan Gosling. America's Sweetheart. The man who was robbed — robbed! — of the Sexiest Man Alive title. There are several good reasons why The Gos inspired the wave of "Hey Girl" memes: He's our handsome dream boyfriend who will write to us every day for a year, will do the "Dirty Dancing" lift with us in his living room and break up a street fight in New York on his way home from the gym, and so much more.
But what of the other side of Ryan Gosling? The somewhat darker side. Sir is a thespian, after all, and not all of his movies involve good-looking charmers who sweep the heroine off her feet with a romantic gesture. In "Drive," for example, Gosling's character's version of a romantic gesture is wordlessly smashing a guy's skill in in an elevator in front of his girl. Hey girl? Nay, girl.
Ahead, in meme form,...

Poor Ryan Gosling. He's one of the most popular actors on the planet (or at least on the Internet), and yet he usually plays such a lonely boy.
Sure, Gosling has had his share of companions, lovers and even wives in his movies, but for the most part he's made a career at playing the rugged loner, the lone wolf who walks (or drives) the earth with only very few "friends" ... if you can even call them that half the time.
Upon the release of "Only God Forgives," in which his only pal is a prostitute (natch), we've tallied the number of friends perennial loner Ryan Gosling has had in some of his other films (via a "Gosbook" interface, of course): "The Place Beyond the Pines" (2012), "The Ides of March" (2011), "Crazy Stupid Love" (2011), "Drive" (2011), "Blue Valentine" (2010), "Lars and the Real Girl" (2007), "Half Nelson" (2006), "The Notebook" (2004), "United States of Leland...
