- In the Japanese version Bowser's win pose is him giving the "up your's" sign (a single fist held up with the other hand placed on the upper arm), but in the American version he simple holds up both fists in victory.
- Virtual Console rereleases tone down some lighting effects used for certain magic attacks, as those sensitive to light and at risk for seizures could potentially be harmed by the original effects.
- One character refers to another as a persistent "bugger" in a part of the game. This is replaced with the word "pest" in Virtual Console rereleases; bugger is something of a negative slang word in the UK.
- The Wii U and the SNES mini console versions now has a save state feature which makes getting the Attack Scarf accessory for 30 jumps and the Super Suit armor for 100 jumps much easier to get and perform, due to the fact you can use save states, so the player can now make sure to get 100 jumps which is very hard to do in the SNES version or the Nintendo Wii virtual console version.
