L' Urlo is a 1966 short film, directed by Camillo Bazzoni, produced by Vittorio Storaro (who is also director of photography) and starring Francesco Barilli. In 1965 the three young filmmakers involved, who met on the set of Before the Revolution (1964), where Barilli was the leading actor and Storaro and Bazzoni worked as camera operators. The three of them co-wrote a science fiction story and with a ridiculously low budget they shot this little film between Parma, Rome and Salsomaggiore Terme. The following year L' Urlo debuted at the Cannes Film Festival, launching Bazzoni's and Barilli's careers where the public discovered the extraordinary visual ability of Vittorio Storaro, who in the following years became one of the greatest exponents of world cinema.
In this film Francesco Barilli plays the role of Paolo Caren. In 2019 Barilli directed the official remake [ L'urlo (2019) ], with Luca Magri starring as Paolo Caren.
