When we think about the world’s richest actors, Robert Downey Jr, Brad Pitt, and Tom Cruise are the names we cannot just skip. However, many would be surprised to know that the richest actor in the world has not been an active face in the industry for now. We’ve been referring to The Lost Boys actor Jami Gertz who has a massive net worth of $3 billion as of 2023.
Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man in the 2012 movie.
It would be a surprise for many to digest the fact that the actress has been holding that position, especially when she has been inactive in the entertainment world.

Twenty years ago, I saw a movie that changed my life. I also saw Jersey Girl. Not a bad movie. I enjoy it to this day - especially George Carlin as the gruff but loveable grandfather. It’s a fun movie and I recommend you check it out if you haven’t - it really got a bad rap. But that’s not what we’re here to talk about. We’re here to celebrate Zack Snyder’s 2004 remake of Dawn of the Dead.
In March of 2004, some friends and I decided to do a double feature of Jersey Girl (because we liked Kevin Smith) and Dawn of the Dead (because it looked scary). Jersey Girl worked out fine and we all had a nice time, and then Dawn of the Dead had us talking excitedly for the rest of the night. It had an immediate effect, giving us the...

There was a time when Kevin Smith was regarded as being one of the definitive filmmakers of Generation X. His feature directing debut on the shoestring-budgeted 1994 indie hit "Clerks" suggested Smith not only had a firm understanding of the slacker mentality that afflicted so many people in his age bracket, but he was also shrewd enough to be critical of it. The film centers on disgruntled Quick Stop Groceries clerk Dante Hicks (Brian O'Halloran) and those in his immediate vicinity, including his equally-cynical, unmotivated best friend Randal Graves (Jeff Anderson) and the off-beat drug dealers that loiter outside the store: loud-mouthed horny miscreant Jay (Jason Mewes) and his reserved yet secretly wise companion Silent Bob (Smith). As colorful as these characters were, they also felt like real people you could imagine Smith knew growing up on his home turf of New Jersey.

As of late, Bruce Springsteen has received some criticism from fans for sticking to a rigid setlist during the E Street Band’s ongoing world tour. No one who attended The Boss’ hometown show in E. Rutherford, NJ on Sunday left complaining though; Springsteen deviated from the tour’s traditional setlist by subbing in seven fan favorites.
Over the course of 28-song performance, Springsteen and E Street Band treated fans to renditions of “Two Hearts,” Something in the Night,” “Spirit in the Night,” “Atlantic City,” “Jungleland,” “Detroit Medley,” and “Jersey Girl.”
All told, it made for easily the best setlist of the tour. The second half of the show was particularly epic, as the band finished the main set with “The Rising,” “Badlands,” and “Thunder Road,” and followed that up with a seven-song encore featuring “Jungleland,” “Born to Run,” “Rosalita (Come Out Tonight),” “Detroit Medley,” “Dancing in the Dark,” “Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out,...

Ben Affleck made one significant change to his face that threw off his ex-wife Jennifer Garner and their children. And his family let Affleck know as much as they could how much they disapproved of his new look.

Affleck decided to change his style a bit when he starred in his Oscar-winning film Argo. The movie saw the actor playing an experienced extractor trying to rescue refugees from Iran in the late 1970s. The actor ended up changing his hairdo to fit in with the film’s time period.
His hair was longer, and he sported a full beard, which audiences might not have been used to seeing. According to Us Weekly, Affleck wasn’t a fan of his new look. But felt it was important to further authenticate the story.

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band closed out their first tour together in six years Friday in their native New Jersey, with the Boss changing up the setlist to give ode to the Garden State.
While “No Surrender” kicked off nearly every show on the E Street Band’s U.S. arena trek — which began Feb. 1 in Tampa — Friday’s concert at Newark’s Prudential Center opened with the Lucky Town cut “Local Hero,” a fitting choice given it was the band’s return to New Jersey for the first time in six years.

Kevin Smith will release an extended version of his 2004 flop Jersey Girl this spring, dubbed Jersey Girl: The Snyder Cut. Thankfully, it will not run four hours.
On the endeavor, Kevin Smith said on the Fatman Beyond podcast, “There’s a very long cut of Jersey Girl, which, recently, Paramount took over Miramax, they’ve got most of the library and stuff, and they were talking about, ‘Hey, we wanna put out Jersey Girl this year,’ and I was like, ‘Well I have the extended cut, which I’ve shown at [the 2005] Vulgarthon,’ and if they allow me to, I wanna call that ‘Jersey Girl: The Snyder Cut.’ Because that term now just covers so much ground, man…It tells the story of, yes, this filmmaker is gonna get to go back and f-ckin’ fine-tune and make the exact movie they wanna make.”

Acting may seem like the most glamorous job on the planet – provided you’re good at it, that is.
Actors like Daniel Day Lewis and Leonardo DiCaprio have become synonymous with talent and charisma. But names like Adam Sandler or Hayden Christensen have something of a different connotation.
However, filmmaking is a collaborative process, and a dodgy performance is seldom the responsibility of just one person.
That’s why, every so often, a much-maligned actor will suddenly pop up to deliver a performance of real heft and accomplishment.
Sometimes, this finally gives the actor their due, and they are lavished with awards and industry praise.
Other times, people don’t even bat an eyelid – but the work speaks for itself.
From Arnold Schwarzenegger to Vince Vaughn, here are 17 brilliant performances by critically maligned actors, selected by The Independent…

After his heart attack in 2018, Kevin Smith isn't even supposed to be here today — but boy, are we glad he still is! The New Jersey native with the gift of the gab has spent the better part of the past three decades willing his whimsy into reality. They say write about what you know, and Smith has made a solid career out of doing precisely that, much to the adoration of his die-hard fans across the globe.
It's more than that though. As one of the original indie filmmakers of the early '90s, Smith proved that anyone could make a movie. While Quentin Tarantino splattered us with blood and Wes Anderson perfected immaculate shots, Smith seemed like one of us — just a regular guy, with a regular life, who loved dissecting the big issues of the day like movies, TV, and the logistics of building a Death Star.

By his own calculation, writer-director-actor-Comic-Con personality Kevin Smith is not particularly imaginative. “I’m not very creative by any stretch,” the 52-year-old Smith tells Rolling Stone from his home in California, bobble heads bearing his characters’ names stacked in rows behind him. “I just take shit that happened to me and try to extrapolate on that.” The first time he tried this, with 1994’s indie breakout Clerks, he helped set a standard for mid-Nineties burnout culture. At the center of the film is Dante Hicks (Brian O’Halloran) and Randal Graves...

Being an actor sure comes in handy when it comes time to make a wedding speech. Jennifer Lopez revealed in her “On the JLo” newsletter that Ben Affleck slipped a line of dialogue he wrote for his 2016 directorial effort “Live By Night” into his wedding speech to her. Fortunately, the line was one of Lopez’s favorites from Affleck’s career as a writer-director. The line of dialogue reads: “This is heaven. Right Here. We’re in it now.”
“That is one of my favorite lines that Ben wrote from a movie he directed called ‘Live By Night,” Lopez wrote in a newsletter post titled “Wedding Weekend. “He also said it the night of our wedding reception in his speech, and I thought…how perfect.”
Lopez elaborated more on her wedding weekend to Affleck, writing about several hiccups the couple encountered in the days leading up to the event. “It...

The first of author Gregory McDonald's "Fletch" novels was published in 1974. The title character of the McDonald's nine books was Irwin Maurice Fletcher, an ex-Marine investigative journalist with a penchant for disguises. Fletch is a bit of a slovenly cad, and he is constantly outrunning attorneys who seek alimony payments from various ex-wives. The first novel involves Fletch investigating drug traffic on the Los Angeles beaches as well as the mysterious, well-paid request from a dying millionaire that Fletch euthanize him.
"Fletch" was very loosely adapted to film in 1985 with Chevy Chase in the title role and with Michael Ritchie directing. The film was less a rundown detective story than a light comedy, and a lot of "Fletch" focuses on Chase's disguises and the comedian's ability to improvise. The record is in both of their legal names — Benjamin Geza Affleck and Jennifer Lynn Lopez. Significantly, the record also indicates that Jennifer Lopez took on Affleck as her legal last name.
The news of Lopez and Affleck’s engagement first broke in April. In an edition of Lopez’s newsletter “On the JLo,” the singer and actress shared a teary-eyed video for her fans while sporting a green diamond engagement ring. She wrote, “Saturday night while at my favorite place on earth (in a bubble bath), my beautiful love got on one knee and proposed.”
Lopez, 52, and Affleck, 49, were among the most prominent celebrity couples in the early 2000s. They made two films together. The first was 2003’s “Gigli,” which...

Jennifer Lopez received the generation award at the 2022 MTV Movie & TV Awards on Sunday, June 5. The multihyphenate teared up as she thanked her fans, her manager, and everyone who inspired her film performances over the years.
Lopez said in her acceptance speech, "I look at those movies, and I see all the wonderful people that I've been blessed to know and to work with. You're only as good as the people you work with, and if you're lucky, they make you better. And I have been very lucky in that regard." Lopez said that while she's none of her characters, all her roles have a part of her in them.
"There were times so low, I think I kept going more for you than for myself."
"Since you cannot create truth unless you've really lived it, I have a different kind of list of thank-yous tonight," she said. "I want...

For the second time in Hollywood history, Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck are engaged.
But unlike the first time, after months of dating under the paparazzi’s watch in 2002, Lopez handled the announcement herself. And because this is 2022, not 20 years earlier, the news of the couple’s engagement came via Lopez’s newsletter — called On the JLo — where the movie star taped a video for fans, sporting a green diamond engagement ring. Rather than saying anything specific, she let her followers connect the dots.
Lopez’s sister Lynda confirmed the news on her Instagram account. (As did a rep for Lopez in a news story to People.)
Lopez and Affleck were among the biggest celebrity couples in the early 2000s. They made two films together — the 2003 romantic comedy “Gigli,” which bombed after receiving scathing reviews, and 2004’s “Jersey Girl.” By the time their second onscreen collaboration, an indie directed by Kevin Smith,...

Reed Hastings might not have wanted to talk Monday about Dave Chappelle and the controversy around remarks centered on the trans and LGBTQ+ communities in his Netflix special The Closer, but the Netflix staffer who called out the streamer on the “attacks” in the October 5-launched show certainly does – in-depth and at length.
“Dave is not, and has never been, the cause of this problem — he is a symptom of it,” Terra Field said Monday in an essay, “It Was Never About Dave,” posted online just two days before a trans staff walkout at Netflix over the special and the defense offered by co-ceo Ted Sarandos and others.
“That Dave believes the things he says and can say them with relative impunity is a result of the culture we live in: a culture that marginalizes and devalues trans people,” Field, the senior software engineer who was temporarily suspended last week,...

Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez literally have fans on the floor over their recent getaway. The internet went wild this week after news broke that the exes, who ended their engagement in 2004, took a trip to Montana together. "They were alone," a source told E! News. "Just the two of them." As word began to spread about the duo's vacation, their "Bennifer" nickname became a top trend online. The moniker, which was coined during Affleck and Lopez's 18-month romance in the early aughts, was actually started by their Jersey Girl director Kevin Smith. In fact, Smith, who is also Affleck's pal, recalled the story behind the name in a tweet on May 10. "'Bennifer'...

What more can you say about a guy who’s been an open book for the last two-and-a-half decades? Herein lies the challenge of Malcolm Ingram’s warm, American Masters-style portrait of friend Kevin Smith, the kind of guy who frankly feels like a friend to all of his fans. The film, titled Clerk, allows others besides Silent Bob to contribute to the Smith story, chronicling his extensive career in filmmaking, comics, e-commerce, and podcasting.
The documentary begins with a moving confessional as the young Smith records a video thanking his dad before going off on his first adventure, leaving his Jersey shore enclave of Highlands for an accelerated film program in Vancouver. While in Canada, Smith would link up with Scott Mosier, producer of his earlier films until years later when Mosier decides to take a sabbatical and become a director in his own right with The Grinch.

Actor Ben Affleck has recalled how negative people were towards actress and singer Jennifer Lopez during their relationship that ended in 2004.
"People were so mean about her — sexist, racist. Ugly, vicious s*** was written about her in ways that if you wrote it now you would literally be fired for saying those things you said," Affleck said during a podcast, reports people.com.
"Now it's like, she's lionised and respected for the work she did, where she came from, what she accomplished — as well she should be! I would say you have a better shot, coming from the Bronx, of ending up as like (Justice Sonia) Sotomayor on the Supreme Court than you do of having Jennifer Lopez's career and being who she is at 50 years old today," he added.
The two had featured in Lopez's 2002 music video, "Jenny from the block". They got engaged the same year. They officially split by January 2004.

It came as something of a surprise when the news broke that Ben Affleck would be reprising his Dceu role as Batman in the much-troubled movie The Flash, casting speculation over how large and significant a part he will play in it. With few details to go on, fans are now imagining familiar aspects of Caped Crusader stories being added, with some artwork depicting Ana de Armas as Catwoman.
Even in a single image, the art below manages to capture the essential essence of both Catwoman and Batman, with the latter standing stoic and brooding while Selina is positioned as though laying claim to him and daring anyone to challenge her on the matter, in a moment declaring her to be both playful and dangerous. Exclusive: CBS All Access is developing The Multivorce, an adult animated TV series created by Kirker Butler (Family Guy) and Scott Mosier (The Grinch), I have learned. It hails from Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment and CBS TV Studios.
Described by sources as Marriage Story mixed with Rick and Morty, The Multivorce is a half-hour animated comedy about the Gundersons, a seemingly normal American family: mother, father, three kids dealing with the complicated realities of divorce. However, instead of the kids having to spend every other weekend at their father’s shitty bachelor apartment across town, they spend every other weekend with their warrior queen mother in her very exciting (and often very dangerous) kingdom somewhere in the Multivorce.
Butler and Mosier executive produce with Kapital’s Kaplan and Dana Honor.

The NBC series is only three episodes into its new season and has already charted two No. 1s on iTunes — “Champagne Night” by Lady Antebellum reached the top of the iTunes country chart and No. 1 on the overall chart, and “Sway” by Luis Fonsi hit No. 1 on the Latin chart as well as the overall chart as well. Monday night’s winning “Wrong Places,” from former “Voice” contestant (and star of the Kevin Smith film “Jersey Girl”) Raquel Castro’s winning collaboration and recorded by H.E.R, is already at No. 2 on the R&b Soul chart and No. 3 overall.

Bruce Springsteen has no shortage of original songs about New Jersey that he could have played near the end of the Jersey 4 Jersey fundraising event on Wednesday night. “4th of July, Asbury Park (Sandy)” would have been a touching tribute to his adopted boardwalk town, while “My Hometown” would have been a bittersweet look at his childhood in Freehold, and “My City of Ruins” would have gone back to its original, pre-9/11 meaning as an elegy for the struggling community of Asbury Park, now devastated once again due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

As Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert both pointed out during Wednesday night’s powerful Jersey 4 Jersey benefit broadcast, the great, unfairly maligned state of New Jersey has taken repeated blows over the last couple of decades, including the death of more than 700 residents on 9/11, and $30 billion worth of damage from Hurricane Sandy in 2012. Now, the Jersey death toll from Covid-19 has reached 5,000, making it the second-hardest-hit state in the union. “I’m never more proud of this state than when we have our backs up against the wall,” Stewart said,...

Whether it’s because of endless delays, fan demands, a director’s passion project or a cash grab reboot that seemingly no one ever actually wanted, Hollywood has produced an enormous amount of sequels to beloved films full decades after they originally hit theaters. Some of them have been wildly successful with critics and audiences, and others we’re just pretending never existed. Here are some of the sequels that took forever to hit the screen.
“Bad Boys For Life” (2020)
There had been talk for years about getting the boys back together, and the reunion finally happened this year, with Will Smith and Martin Lawrence teaming up for one last ride. This time however Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah are taking over directing duties from Michael Bay.
George Miller took nearly 30 years to follow up “Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome” with the Tom Hardy-Charlize Theron thriller “Mad Max: Fury Road.

So, we have reached the final hurled on this Road to Reboot. We began with Clerks, made our way through Mallrats, Chasing Amy and Dogma, took a turn at Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back last time, and we’ll end it here, with Clerks 2. Of course, Kevin Smith did other movies, films like Zack & Miri Make a Porno, which I’m a fan of, and movies unlike his other work, such as the poorly received Jersey Girl, the oddball horror Tusk, and the, in my opinion, bloody terrible Yoga Hosers [Am I the only Nerdly team member who loved Yoga Hosers then? - Editor Phil]. As we approach the release of Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, it seems fitting to end this journey where it began, with Dante and Randall, who likely weren’t meant to be here today.

You already know if you want to see a movie called “Jay and Silent Bob Reboot,” but in the unlikely event that anyone out there is still on the fence about buying a ticket for this Charlie Kaufman-esque belly flop back into the depths of the View Askewniverse, it might help to know that Kevin Smith’s latest bit of self-mythologizing starts with a proud nod to “Clerks II.”
The scene begins with the feds surrounding a New Jersey chicken shack called “Cock Smokers,” and ends with Jay (Jason Mewes’ perma-stoned alter-ego) rehashing an old bit that involves him tucking his penis between his legs in tribute to the serial killer from “The Silence of the Lambs.” Yes, “Goodbye Horses” plays on the soundtrack. In a film culture overrun by Marvel epics, wild-stunt action flicks, and other grandiose juvenilia, it is often said that the mid-budget, script-driven movie for adults is becoming a thing of the past. But don’t tell that to Kevin Smith, whose “Jay and Silent Bob Reboot,” a shaggy antic throwaway that premiered Tuesday in the first of two one-night shows at 600 theaters (it will travel out after that in a 65-city road-show release), stands (sort of) as a proud exception to the rule of corporate blockbuster overkill.
It’s without doubt a script-driven movie — not just because Smith, after 25 years as a filmmaker, wouldn’t know an expressive (or well-lit) camera angle if it bit him, but because he remains, in his rowdy stoner never-made-a-dick-joke-he-didn’t-like way, a furiously flowing wordsmith, one who can write the kind of spontaneous sick-comedy monologues that heat up the screen. Bruce Springsteen’s music has always been cinematic, which is one reason why so many of his songs strike a chord at the movies.
Friday is the premiere of the film, “Blinded By The Light,” which tells the story of a British-Pakistani teenager and his journey after discovering the Boss’ music. Based on the book, “Greetings From Bury Park,” by Sarfraz Manzoor, the film makes excellent use of Springsteen classics like “Jungleland” and “The Promised Land.”
But no matter where they’re used, Springsteen’s songs enliven film scenes. And the man himself does as much in “High Fidelity” — a fantasy sequence from the 2000 film in which he gives advice to John Cusack’s character as he strums his Fender and tells him to “move on down the road.”
Which is what we’re going to do, after serving up these six great examples of Springsteen music used well in films.

Hulu’s list of comings and goings for the month of April is out, and the roster for new content on the streaming service includes two Hulu Originals — the first season premiere of “Ramy,” and the seventh episode of “Into The Dark: I’m Just F*cking With You,” with other highlights including Season 3 of Freeform’s “The Bold Type” and John Krasinski’s “A Quiet Place.”
“Ramy,” debuting April 19, tells the story of first generation Egyptian-American Ramy Hassan as he finds himself in his New Jersey neighborhood, stuck at a crossroads between the morals of his Muslim community and the moral ambiguity of his millennial generation. “Into The Dark: I’m Just F*cking With You,” coming April 1, finds two siblings in a secluded motel, where they become subject to practical jokes of an increasingly frightening nature.

Kevin Smith has launched pre-production on his long-promised “Jay and Silent Bob” reboot with Jay Mewes and producer Jordan Monsanto.
Smith, who first announced the project in August, 2017, made the announcement in Jan. 1 tweet: “Spent the first day of 2019 having a #JayAndSilentBobReboot pre-pre-production meeting.”
Smith and Mewes made their film debut in the 1994 comedy “Clerks,” funded for $27,000 through Smith maxing out his credit cards. Smith wrote, directed, co-produced, and acted in “Clerks,” portraying the character Silent Bob as part of the team of Jay and Silent Bob.
Smith’s subsequent films featured Jay and Silent Bob and were mostly set in his home state of New Jersey. Those included “Mallrats,” “Chasing Amy,” “Dogma,” “Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back” and 2006’s “Clerks 2” — the final film in which the characters appeared. Smith produced the interconnected films through his View Askew Productions, which he co-founded with Scott Mosier.
