It's really the end of summer television! Last night, NBC's ratings anchor, America's Got Talent, crowned its tenth winner, and also said farewell to one of its judges, Howard Stern. Paul Zerdin, a 43-year-old ventriloquist from London, took the $1 million prize, as well as the opportunity to headline his own Las Vegas show. He's been doing this for a while: In 1996, he won ITV's The Big Big Talent Show and appeared on BBC kids shows. Almost 20 years later, he and his trusty puppet Sam were more than ready for America: But Zerdin is also traveling down a road with puppet predecessors. The big talking point after last week's show was the brilliant Francine Lewis. I still think that she could make the top three after seeing the reaction that she's got from the public.
But the thing that viewers haven't seen yet is the exceptional talent still to come on Britain's Got Talent. I don't think anyone you've seen so far is safe. It's going to be really hard to call a winner.
Still to come on the show there is an amazing guitar-playing singer. And I mean amazing. There's an amazing ventriloquist. An amazing magician. So while I think Francine has a great chance of making the final I really couldn't call whether she's a winner. It's too close.
It's like a breath of fresh of air to have all this variety on the show. It's an absolute joy for me on More Talent as well. Over the years we've had loads of variety,...
