“The Talk” has found its new showrunner.
Hours after revealing that longtime executive producer Kristin Matthews is stepping down as showrunner after 13 years with the Emmy-winning talk show, CBS announced Friday that “The Late Late Show” executive producer Rob Crabbe will step up as showrunner for Season 14.
“I’ve loved my experience working with CBS these past eight years, and am thrilled and honored that George, Amy and David have trusted me with their signature daytime talk show,” Crabbe said in a statement obtained by TheWrap. “I’m excited by the opportunity to help bring some joy and thoughtful conversation to viewers with these five incredibly talented hosts.”

CNN has enlisted a new executive to help it generate programming ideas.
Ryan Kadro, a veteran of “CBS This Morning” and several digital ventures, is set to join CNN as a senior vice president of content strategy, overseeing the development of new programming such as a revamped morning show and other new concepts, according to a spokesperson for the network and two other people familiar with the matter.
Kadro is a former lieutenant to Chris Licht, the CEO of CNN, and succeeded him as executive producer after he left the CBS morning program to work with Stephen Colbert on CBS’ “Late Show.”
His hire puts a trusted executive in place to create programming in which Licht is said to have a strong interest. Licht, who helped launch “Morning Joe” and the most recent iteration of “CBS This Morning,” is said to be eager to revamp to play more robustly against the A.

The weather was beautiful in St. Louis today, but the tranquil was shattered when terrified St. Louisans spotted the bloody killer drone from the new horror film The Drone hovering about our city! It may have killed a few people (we’re not sure). We Are Movie Geeks was able to get these shots of the drone as it took its deadly aim! The Remote Has No Control!
We spotted The killer drone at The Arch, St. Louis University, Union Station, The Art Museum, The History Museum, The Bevo Mill, The Ferris Wheel, The Fox Theater, Grandel Square, Anheuser Buch Brewery, Art Hill and in front of the St. Louis Statue. We’re not sure where it went from there, but we’re pretty sure death and carnage followed!

Lilly Singh made her late-night debut very early Tuesday with her new NBC talk show, “A Little Late With Lilly Singh,” which put up steady ratings compared to her predecessor, Carson Daly’s, last call on the network — and his final season averages.
At 1:35 a.m., the first episode of Singh’s series, which featured guest Mindy Kaling, averaged a 0.6 rating/3 share in metered-market households, NBC’s best Monday rating in the time period with regular programming since April 1 (0.7).
“A Little Late’s” debut also received a 0.2/2 among the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic in the 25 markets with local people meters, maintaining 100% of its lead-in. That stat equals the network’s best Monday rating in the time slot with regular programming since June 18, 2018 (0.3).

Lilly Singh made her transition from online to linear in the best way possible — by premiering the very first episode of her new NBC late-night show A Little Late with Lilly Singh on YouTube before it aired on television.
Taking over the 1:35am timeslot, previously held by Last Call With Carson Daly, Lilly Singh not only brings her massive “Superwoman” audience from her YouTube following but also a fresh perspective that has been absent from the late-night space — and she immediately makes that known in her opening sketch.
The show started with Singh entering a meeting of executives as they talk about what they are going to do for her new show. The room is filled with white men and Singh tries to share her ideas but they try to sculpt her into something she is not. They want her to wear bland suits and do political commentary. She...

Samantha Bee is now the only female host in late night, and that’s a stat she’s not happy about. “It’s a bit unsettling,” Bee recently told Variety. “It’s been a bad year to be a woman in this space. It’s not really a badge that I want to wear.”
Shows that have been canceled over the past year include E!’s “Busy Tonight,” hosted by Busy Philipps; Hulu’s Sarah Silverman series “I Love You, America”; Michelle Wolf’s Netflix show “The Break”; and Bet’s “The Rundown” with Robin Thede. Before that, Chelsea Handler’s Netflix talk show was also axed after two years.
“I don’t feel good being the last woman standing in this space currently,” Bee said. “It doesn’t fill my heart with gladness that Busy was canceled, Michelle Wolf’s show is gone, Sarah Silverman’s show is gone.

It began with a toothbrush. During a late-March episode of The Late Late Show With James Corden, the host reached for his coffee mug only to find an Oral-b protruding from it. "What's this? What has happened here?" he asked in a comically high voice. Bandleader Reggie Watts denied putting it there and nobody in the crew could say how it got there, until pop heartthrob Shawn Mendes walked out and owned up to it, to deafening screams in the audience.
"I must have just left it after soundcheck," he said.

With NBC’s The Tonight Show making a transition from host Jay Leno to Jimmy Fallon midway through the season, both versions are eligible for Primetime Emmys. The same goes for Late Night and its incarnations hosted by Fallon and Seth Meyers. I’ve learned that both The Tonight Show With Jay Leno and The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon are being submitted by NBC along with Late Night With Seth Meyers, Last Call With Carson Daly and the network’s venerable late-night sketch comedy series Saturday Night Live. NBC was in a similar situation during the 2009-2010 season when both The Tonight Show With Conan O’Brien, which aired through January, and Tonight Show With Jay Leno, which succeeded it, were submitted (O’Brien landed a nomination). Given the fact that Fallon just moved into Tonight Show and is looking to establish himself as host, it makes sense for...

On Tuesday (Jan. 28), NBC listed its "Today" regulars soon to travel to Russia for the Xxii Winter Olympics, but Carson Daly wasn't among them.
He has a good reason not to be going: As the host and an executive producer of "The Voice," he'll be immersed in taping segments with returning judges Shakira and Usher for the singing contest's sixth season that starts Monday, Feb. 24, the night after coverage of the Games ends.
Still, Daly tells Zap2it, "I think anybody would be lying if they didn't say they had some concerns" about security in Sochi. "We lead our ['Today'] broadcast every day with some sort of story about a concern of a threat. My family's glad I'm not going, and of all the Olympics, I can't say I'm terribly bummed to be missing this one in particular."

A couple months ago, NBC announced that Carson Daly, the host of The Voice and Last Call with Carson Daly, would be joining The Today Show as a daily contributor.
The network said that Daly would remain as an executive producer of Last Call in the interim while a "transition" plan was worked out. That was understood to mean a cancellation or at least a new host taking over.
Deadline reports that new episodes began airing at the end of October with "wraparounds" of Daly opening and closing each episode. Interviews are being handled by producers.
The network seems to like the new format so Last Call with Carson Daly will stay on the schedule, at least for the next few months.
What do you think? If you watch Last Call, do you like the new format?...

Carson Daly is the latest addition to Studio 1A at Rockefeller Center. Yesterday it was confirmed that Carson's joining Matt Lauer, Savannah Guthrie, Natalie Morales, and Al Roker as part of The Today Show crew, with his first show airing in just a few days, on Monday, Sept. 16. Carson's most recent gigs have been hosting Last Call With Carson Daly and The Voice, both of which also air on NBC. But, of course, many in our generation know and will forever love Carson thanks to his turn on MTV's Trl in the '90s - in fact, we're looking back at the iconic show in our Trl time machine. Savannah ranks among Trl's admirers. "Of course I was [a fan!]" Savannah said at last night's Estée Lauder Modern Muse event in NYC. "He's sort of my generation. Even though he's a little younger than me! So maybe I had aged out of Trl.

Alec Baldwin may be following in Charles Grodin’s footsteps, segueing from a career as a actor to a gig as a talk show host on an NBC-affiliated cable network. Baldwin is in talks with MSNBC to host a primetime talk show. “It’s real possibility,” a source close to the situation said, cautioning that there is no deal and things could still fall apart. According to Mediate, which first reported the Baldwin-msnbc negotiations, the Emmy-winning actor is eyed for the 10 Pm hour. Following his seven-year run on NBC’s 30 Rock, the network kept Baldwin in the fold with a two-year overall deal inked late last year. Since then, he was considered for a late-night talk show, with the discussion focusing on Baldwin possibly taking over NBC’s 1:35 Am half-hour occupied by Last Call With Carson Daly.
