I too was 17 when I first saw it
This gem of a show was a mere blip on the radar, but had a stunning impact on me (I still feel completely jaded in discovering how much of Lollapallooza was a market research haven), and now it seems it's disappeared forever. No searches on youtube have revealed anything.
There were three shows in total, and U2 were involved in the financing, concept and musical score, but kept their noses out of it, which suited the show just fine. The web site zoo.TV existed for a short time, but it never offered much more than an animated gif of a baby in utero, which was also part of the show's segment animation.
I vaguely remember something about an annoying redheaded girl hosting the show, maybe she turned out to be a robot or something like that. It could be compared to a sophisticated version of Wondershowzen from before we were all exposed to Britney Spear's chuck-e-cheese.
It was also confusing sometimes to wonder if the show had started again or you were still watching commercials. I remember once thinking, "this *has to be* the show, 'cause no company would ever produce a commercial like this!" Turned out to be a real commercial. I think it was of one of those curly long-haired rockers screaming a hard-rock girly-scream inviting us to join the Recording & Performing Institute of California or something like that.
Cheers.
