When Batman: The Brave and the Bold debuted on Cartoon Network back in 2008, many fans were understandably hesitant when it came to seeing a lighter take on the Caped Crusader than had been witnessed in animation for some time. But lo and behold, said animated series found much success throughout the course of its three seasons by retaining the tongue-in-cheek nature of the TV show starring Adam West and utilizing the vastness of the DC Universe in a way similar to Justice League Unlimited. Really, it’s no wonder why some felt it rivaled Batman: The Animated Series and Batman Beyond in terms of quality.

Need to catch up? Check out last week’s Nashville recap here.
This week’s Nashville achieves a feat I once thought was unattainable. I hesitate to put this all down in writing, for fear that I’ll have to eat my words next week, but here goes: For a few minutes at the end of this week’s episode, I did not loathe Maddie.
Yes, I’m aware that Marshall Herskovitz promised that he and fellow showrunner Ed Zwick had a “course correction” in the works, one that would make Deacon and Rayna’s daughter more palatable to an...

The new film “Lost in Florence” takes a hard look at love, sorrow and the healing power of sports in the heart of Florence, Italy. When his girlfriend turns down his marriage proposal on a trip to Florence, former college football star Eric Lombard (Brett Dalton) stays behind with his cousin Anna (Stana Katic) and her Italian husband to heal his wounds. While he’s there, they introduce him to calcio storico, an ancient form of football played every summer in Florence that combines rugby and street fighting. During his time there, Eric falls for Stefania (Alessandra Mastronardi), the girlfriend of his teammate Paolo (Alessandro Preziosi), and tries to learn what makes life worth living. It co-stars Emily Atack (“The Inbetweeners”), Robert Aramayo (“Game of Thrones”) and Marco Bonini (“Under the Tuscan Sun”). Watch an exclusive clip from the film below.

The first female U.S. attorney general has died.
Janet Reno’s goddaughter, Gabrielle D’Alemberte, told CBS News the 78-year-old trailblazer passed away early Monday from complications of Parkinson’s disease. Reno’s niece, Daphne Webb, confirmed to CBS News that Reno died peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends.

President Bill Clinton tapped Reno to become the government’s top lawyer in 1993. The Associated Press describes Reno as “one of the Clinton administration’s most recognizable and polarizing figures.”
By the time she took office, a crisis was already building at a compound in Waco, Texas. The Branch Davidian religious sect led by David Koresh was in a standoff with the FBI. Reno ordered agents to storm the property, saying she believed children were being abused. About 80 people died in the raid. Reno took full responsibility.

Hi, welcome to fireside chats with Patrick.
I had the chance to chat with Patrick Adams at Atx Festival about Suits Season 6. We were, naturally, by a fire because that is where you conduct interviews in Austin, Texas in June.
I'm sure by now, you've all seen the haircutting promo. This, naturally, lead to a conversation about how Mike really needed a haircut. Adams takes full responsibility for Mike's hair last season, "That was my fault. I tried a new haircut. I tried a new hairstyle and it didn't work."
Of course, I didn't begin the interview with a hair question. What kind of journalist would I be? I opened by asking Adams where we pick up; specifically, if there is a time jump, and that's when the hair cutting promo was mentioned, and then the next seven minutes were focused on Mike's hair.

About 50 minutes into “Unlocking The Cage,” the camera follows animal-protection lawyer Steven Wise as he marches through a courthouse parking lot, hefting a box that’s visibly stuffed just beyond capacity. “Justice is heavy,” he quips. He’s on his way to make his case for the personhood of Hercules and Leo, a pair of chimpanzees kept […]

The movie world's own collective revenant finally came to an end on Sunday night as the 88th Academy Awards capped off six long months of speculation, soul-searching and social butterflying. Truth be told, it's been an unusually compelling Oscar season from start to finish: The lack of a frontrunner kept the pundits on their toes, while the lack of any non-white people in any of the major categories kept the voters on their heels. And though #OscarsSoWhite will obviously be what history takes away from this year's show (at least,...

We've been expecting it, in some form or another, since season 1 – and now that the Olivia/Fitz affair is finally out in the open, it's here. Fitz's impeachment trial is really happening. While both sides prepare their cases, there's one person in particular who seems quite thrilled about the whole thing, and that's Cyrus Beene, sitting on his couch, shoveling brownies and sparkling wine into his mouth, and proclaiming: "This is the moon landing! The Berlin wall is coming down!" Not quite, Cyrus, especially since this happened with Clinton already. Did anyone really care about the second moon landing?

Meet some of the best directors working today, who haven't gone down the blockbuster movie route...
Ever find it a bit lame when the same big name directors get kicked around for every high profile project? Christopher Nolan, Jj Abrams, maybe the Russo Brothers? With so much focus on blockbuster films these days, getting a major franchise job seems like the main acknowledgement of success for a filmmaker. And yes, both the financial and creative rewards can be great. But there are plenty of other directors out there, doing their own thing, from art house auteurs to Dtv action specialists.
Here are 25 examples.
Lee Hardcastle
Even if you don’t know his name, you’ve probably seen Lee Hardcastle’s ultraviolent claymations shared on social media. He first started getting noticed for his two-minute remake of The Thing, starring the famous stop motion penguin Pingu. Far from just a cheap one-joke mash-up,...

Last night’s episode of Scandal featured a tawdry sham marriage between two men. Personally, I was moved, because I want a world where gay people can abuse marriage as well as straight people do. That said, I hope Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy wasn’t watching.
On to the show.
1. What kind high class call boy doesn’t know how to be discrete?
Scandal opened with the revelation that Michael, who I completely forgot was alive, was out in those D.C. streets trying to get chose. Of course, for a hooker, this is a part of his business model; however, if you recall (and if you don’t, I don’t blame you as I forgot, too), Cyrus and Michael made a little deal in which they pretended to be crazy in love to save Cyrus’ job. That means Michael is supposed to stay his ass...

Frank Whaley (Ray Donovan, The Blacklist) has been cast in The Outskirts, an indie comedy from director Peter Hutchings. Eden Sher, Victoria Justice, Ashley Richards, Katie Chang, Peyton List, Avan Jogia and Will Peltz star in the high school-set pic about two best friends (Justice and Sher) who set out to hatch the ultimate social coup on their nemesis. Whaley will play Herb, the father to Justice’s Jodi and a charmingly out-of-touch postal worker who agrees to start dating once his daughter takes charge of her own life. TV and film vet Whaley recently shot Paramount’s live-action/CG hybrid Monster Trucks and write and directed indie feature Like Sunday, Like Rain starring Leighton Meester, Debra Messing, and Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong. He’s repped by Apa.

Judging by the tone of Michael White‘s comments to investors today, he’s souring on the thought of trying to merge the No. 1 satellite company with its chief rival Dish Network. At the beginning of August the DirecTV chief said that while it might take a lot of work to do a deal he’d “never say never.” But he just told the Goldman Sachs Communacopia Conference that “there’s no question it’s very challenging for any deal to get done” following the Justice Department’s decision last month to fight American Airlines’ plan to merge with Us Airways. Some analysts thought that the companies might overcome government antitrust concerns by offering to use the airwave spectrum rights that Dish has amassed to build a national wireless broadband service. White says that conceptually “that would be a powerful argument,” but adds that “powerful doesn’t necessarily make the other [antitrust] issues go away.

The ten-hour Volume 4 includes “All Is Bright”, a history of the famous Christmas song; “1489 Words”, which featured the debut of later film composer Jerry Goldsmith’s “The Thunder of Imperial Names”, which was written for a concert band and was based on a text piece by Thomas Wolfe; a two-part adaptation of Frederick Pohl and Cyril M. All Switched at Birth characters were in their own little stories this week, as you could tell by the title, "Prudence, Avarice, Lust, Justice, Anger." It doesn't speak to any one tale, but is overarching and grabs a little of this and a little of that, which is pretty much what we got out of the hour.
In doing so, we were treated a really nice slice of the side of people we don't ordinarily see. And I think it worked.
John's senatorial position has opened up a whole new avenue of storytelling for Switched at Birth. Who imagined we'd delve into politicians not only dating their interns, but impregnating them? I sure didn't.
I certainly didn't expect Daphne to stoop so low as to use another girl's problems, whether real or imagined, to force her political views through on a bill that her father didn't support through bribery gained through a supposed friendship.

This week both WWE Main Event and Nxt had quite an interesting showing featuring former champions in action. From the Peeps and Jericholics to the Emmalation of true Bolievers, all fan bases were well represented for the most part. But let’s not get too ahead of ourselves, how about we begin with this week’s Main Event from Gamecock country North Charleston, South Carolina.
We open this weeks episode back with a two-man booth as the Miz and Josh Matthews welcome us the show. Chris Jericho makes his way to the ring for his Wednesday night debut against last week’s color commentator extraordinaire Cody Rhodes. Overall, a really good back and forth match as to be expected. Unfortunately, it wasn’t in the booking sheet for Cody Rhodes this week as he takes a loss in the Walls of Jericho.

Goodbye Boston, Hello New York! Maybe.
On the Smash Season 2 premiere, Bombshell exploded - and not in a good way. After a successful preview in Boston, the show seemed to be destined for Broadway. Then, trouble hit from all sides: money issues, theatre blocking, writer depression, director sex scandal and negative gossip throughout the Broadway network. Will Bombshell make it "On Broadway?"
These issues make the show's previous problems seem like nothing, but in many ways the dysfunctional lives of those involved in the production may be its saving grace. Eileen will be able to keep the main players on hold, since no one else will take them.
All the changes were apparent right away. No more Michael, Leo, Ellis, Dev and a swift kick out the door to Frank. The casting changes from Smash Season 1 to Season 2 were handled in a natural manner. I'm looking forward to show's shift...

"Man Of Steel," the latest entry in the Superman film franchise, will hit theaters in June 2013, and while not everything is known about the film just yet, we do have one important piece of information: the primary antagonist of the piece is General Zod, an iconic Superman villain.
But who is Zod, really? For the answer to that question, we're going to take a look back at his previous incarnations, both in comics and film.
General Zod debuted 1961's "Adventure Comics" #283, by writer Robert Bernstein and artist George Papp. "Adventure Comics" told the adventures of Superman when he was a boy, and so he first learned of Zod's existence as Superboy, when a Kryptonian information helmet filled him in on the general's background. Zod was a military man with designs to overthrow Krypton's peaceful government and declare himself dictator. To that end, he created an army of duplicates of himself,...

1.) I've yet to see 2009's blaxploitation spoof Black Dynamite, but I know it has a lot of fans so I wonder, what will fans think of a sequel? Star and co-writer Michael Jai White recently spoke out about the possibility and told Crave Online, "It looks like we're getting closer to the decision of something that would be an homage to Blazing Saddles... It's a western comedy in that spirit of Blazing Saddles, but you mix that with Buck and the Preacher." Does that excite you? Crave 2.) Tom Cruise is attached to star in Our Name Is Adam with a script from T.S. Nowlin, which would mark yet another sci-fi feature for Cruise the heels of Oblivion and All You Need is Kill. Plot details are nil, but Nowlin seems to be on a bit of a hot streak as his previous script for Agent 13 currently has Rise of the Planet of the Apes...

Who Should Play the "Forgotten" Hero?
If Aquaman is the one member of the Justice League that late night talk show hosts and sketch comics like to pick on for having "useless" powers like breathing underwater and communicating with marine life, Martian Manhunter is the one that nobody picks on...or even mentions...ever. The "forgotten" member of the Justice League, Martian Manhunter has been a member of the super-team since they first gathered together in the pages of The Brave and the Bold #28 (Feb./Mar. 1960) and is actually the most powerful of them all, possessing all of Superman's abilities, plus telepathy, invisibility, phasing and shape-shifting.
Martian Manhunter has received wider recognition in recent years thanks to appearances in various animated series, video games, and in the Smallville: Absolute Justice TV movie (played by Phil Morris), but he is still the only member of the Justice League that does...

Whether he plays an underground cop on the streets of Boston or a wealthy aviation pioneer, true Leonardo DiCaprio fans will almost always see the dreamy boy from Chippewa Falls. But in "J. Edgar," where he stars as the not-so-sexy FBI director, his physical transformation is undeniably shocking.
The New York Times profiled the actor and revealed that while he spends a good deal of his time dating the most beautiful women in the world, he takes his work very seriously.
He did months of research to take on the challenging role. He toured the Justice Department and one of Hoover's past homes; he even found obscure film footage of a young Hoover and read through transcripts of his Congressional testimony.
"The research of these roles is half the fun and half the challenge -- maybe more," DiCaprio said. "It's what makes it exciting to me."

The scene opens in the desert with Lois (Erica Durance) arriving in Egypt. Her dream assignment is going down the plughole fast. She picks up a manuscript with two Egyptian gods and Carter Hall (Michael Shanks) calls them star-crossed lovers. Plenty of references to those in this episode, what with Clark (Tom Welling) and Lois, Chloe (Allison Mack) and Oliver (Justin Hartley), as well as Carter and his wife, Shayera. (Which was about as close as you could get to Daniel Jackson's wife's name in Stargate SG1! - Sha're.) He comments, "guess you never know what fate has planned for you." The star-crossed lovers being an allusion towards Clark and Lois and he's here not only to keep an eye on her but ensure they do get together; or at least they can in the future. Carter as we recall is Hawkman. Clark leaves messages for Chloe about the...

10:54pm Est: Best Picture (Drama) – Film
Nominees: “Black Swan,” “The Fighter,” “Inception,” “The King’s Speech,” “The Social Network”
Presenter(s): Michael Douglas
Projection: “The Social Network”
Winner: “The Social Network”
Commentary: Even though there is no direct overlap as far as the membership of the HFPA and the Academy, it’s hard to think that this is not a “game, set, match” moment in terms of the best picture Oscar race. If any other film was ever going to be able to go on to win that honor, it probably would have needed to start building some momentum tonight. Anyway, producer Scott Rudin thanks Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and calls up his stars Jesse Eisenberg and Andrew Garfield, while Gervais — a professed fan of “The Social Network” — subsequently states, “Justice done there.”)
Backstage, Mark Ruffalo, a member of the cast of best picture (musical/comedy) winner “The Kids Are All Right,...

This is a project that's picking up tremendous steam! Clint Eastwood's biopic of the FBI founding father, J. Edgar Hoover. First, we told you Leonardo DiCaprio is joining the project in the titular role, now, we're hearing that "The Social Network's" Armie Hammer, and Charlize Theron are boarding the Hoover biopic as well! (Check out my interview with Armie Hammer for "The Social Network")
Hammer, who did an amazing job playing both Winklevoss twins in David Fincher's "The Social Network," will play Hoover's paramour, protege, and gasp, lover (!!!), Clyde Tolson. I think he and Leo will make a good couple don't you think? And Theron has been offered the role of Justice Department file clerk Helen Gandy. She worked with Hoover for more than five decades.
Oh, and EW.com is reporting that the title of the film is now, "J. Edgar." The script is written by Academy Award-winner,...

Doesn’t Clint Eastwood know how to pick his actors in films? Having cast Leonardo Di-Caprio in the role of J. Edgar Hoover in a biopic about the controversial FBI director, Eastwood is now set to sign up Oscar winning beauty Charlize Theron and of the main stars of this year’s movie sensation The Social Network, Armie Hammer.
The film to be titled J Edgar will focus on Hoover’s involvement in solving major FBI crimes and according to Empire Online, Hammer is set to play the role of Clyde Tolson, who was Hoover’s partner and apparently the pair even went as far as being lovers. Hammer made himself known this year for his double role as the Winklevoss twins in The Social Network.
Theron on the other hand will play Hoover’s secretary, Helen Grandy, who worked for the Justice Department for over half a century.

Charlize Theron has been busy working on Jason Reitman and Diablo Cody’s next collaboration, Young Adult. But it appears she’s close to locking up her next job too – Clint Eastwood has offered her a juicy role in his new film, the J Edgar Hoover biopic now simply called J Edgar, which already features Leonardo DiCaprio.Leo, of course, is playing the famous – and to many, infamous – FBI director, whose private life caused waves of controversy and whose use of the crime-busting department to spy on his political enemies also brought him notoriety.According to Vulture, the director wants her to play Helen Grandy, a file clerk at the Justice Department who Hoover picked to act as his personal secretary when she was 21, a job which lasted her more than 54 years. In related casting news, Entertainment Weekly reports that The Social Network’s Armie Hammer, he of the Winklevii,...
