Earlier this month, Roadside Attractions announced that they had acquired distribution rights to the comedy Summer Camp, written and directed by Castille Landon (Perfect Addiction). With a release date of May 31 quickly approaching, Roadside has already revealed the trailer and poster.
Summer Camp tells the story of Nora (Diane Keaton), Ginny (Kathy Bates), and Mary (Alfre Woodard), who have been best friends since being inseparable at summer camp. As the years have passed, they’ve seen each other less and less, so when the chance to reunite for a summer camp reunion arises, they all take it, some begrudgingly and others excitedly.
Each of their lives might not be where they’d imagined, but one thing is for sure — Nora, Ginny, and Mary need each other, and summer camp reminds them why.

Royal watchers everywhere were stunned when the Princess of Wales (formerly known as Kate Middleton) revealed her cancer diagnosis and so were her estranged in-laws, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who found out the same time the rest of the world did.
The Sussexes later issued a brief statement that read: “We wish health and healing for Kate and the family, and hope they are able to do so privately and in peace.”
This left many wondering if a reconciliation could be in the cards. But according to Prince William and Kate’s friends, that’s not happening as the Waleses don’t want to see Harry when he returns to the U.K. whether he’s with Meghan or not.

The deal is expected to go into effect on April 1, the first day of the new Japanese business year. Eightbit confirmed that the management structure of the studio will remain in place and that the partnership will help the studio increase “the speed of decision-making in animation production” and give them the resources to utilize Bandai Namco Filmworks’ promotional and sales skills while they focus on producing anime. In the Bandai Namco press release , the company said that bringing Eightbit into the Namco Bandai Group was to help “promote the further expansion of flagship IP” and to bring Eightbit’s production lines closer to the core of the company.

The classless practice of traumatic profiteering is alive and well in Thomas Walton’s micro-budget slasher Camp Pleasant Lake. We’ve become a society obsessed with gnarly true crime documentaries and podcasts, lifting infamous serial killers to celebrity status. As superfans once wrote letters to Charles Manson in prison, studios now churn out streaming programs about despicable icons like Bundy and Dahmer to capitalize on trending viewership. Camp Pleasant Lake is an intriguing commentary on selling someone else’s grief and loss for your next payday, but at no point does Walton’s execution do his “Horror LARPing” concept justice.
The film takes place at Camp Echo Lake, where new owners Rick (Michael Paré) and Darlene Rutherford (Maritza Brikisak) have reopened as an immersive Halloween experience. For $10,000, attendees are treated to “Camp of Terror,” an all-inclusive murder party that ties back to a horrible crime committed on the grounds 20 years prior.

The annual PGA Awards happened February 25, immediately following the 2024 Film Independent Spirit Awards. The awards-heavy weekend festivities also included the 2024 SAG Awards on February 24.
The nominees mirror the Academy Awards’ frontrunners list, with winner “Oppenheimer,” plus “American Fiction,” “Anatomy of a Fall,” “Barbie,” “The Holdovers,” “Killers of the Flower Moon,” “Maestro,” “Past Lives,” “Poor Things,” and “The Zone of Interest” among the contenders.
Formally known as the Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures, the Theatrical Motion Picture category for the PGA Awards has historically been an indicator of Best Picture winners, with 15 of the previous 20 winners going on to win the top title at the Academy Awards.
“Killers of the Flower Moon” director and “Maestro” producer Martin Scorsese was honored with the David O. Selznick Achievement Award for his producing work over the last half-century.

Going to summer camp makes some lifelong memories. For the Percy Jackson and the Olympians cast, that was certainly true. The actors who play the demigods and satyrs of Camp Half-Blood became a tight-knit group while filming Season 1 of the Disney+ fantasy series. In the TV Insider video above, stars Walker Scobell, Leah Sava Jeffries, and Aryan Simhadri dish out camp superlatives to their fellow Camp Half-Blood campers (with one adult guest star thrown in). One thing is clear: Dior Goodjohn (Clarisse La Rue) was a very popular person on set. The trio not only named her “most likely to be the most popular kid at camp,” but also said she’s the most likely to receive most of these superlatives. Charlie Bushnell (Luke Castellan) and Andrew Alvarez (Chris Rodriguez) were also named a lot. And they say Adam Copeland — the wrestling superstar who plays the war god Ares...

First reviews out of Cannes for Todd Haynes’ poisonously witty and complex new film “May December” heralded “a heartbreakingly sincere piece of high camp,” “a camp and curious pleasure,” a “camp look at an actor’s process of transformation into a character.”
But how does “camp” figure into the context of a film starring Natalie Portman as a celebrity actress studying Julianne Moore as a Southern spin on Mary Kay Letourneau, the middle school teacher who had a sexual relationship with her 12-year-old student, was convicted of rape and imprisoned, and then married and had two children with him? Portman’s character is set to play Moore’s in a new movie. The Game Awards 2023 panel has revealed the full list of nominees who will be eligible to win at this year’s show. While many of the nominees are relatively unsurprising, there are certainly a few games that did (and didn’t) get nominated that will get people talking.
Here’s everything you need to know about The Game Awards 2023’s nominees and voting process.
The Game Awards 2023: How Voting Works
According to the Game Awards website, Game Awards winners are determined by a “blended vote” that accounts for jury votes and fan votes. The jury votes account for 90% of the voting weight while the fan votes make up the remaining 10%.
Though an example of that formula is not provided, it’s basically best to think of the system like a 10-person voting jury. Nine of the jurors would represent voting individuals of the group, and the 10th person would...

The slasher boom of the 1980s was a wild time, where filmmakers were attempting to capitalize off of the popularity of films like John Carpenter's "Halloween" and Sean S. Cunningham's "Friday the 13th," while also trying not to appear like a cheap rip-off of either title. This led to success stories like the "Child's Play/Chucky" franchise, or colossal failures like "Boggy Creek II: And the Legend Continues." And then there are films like 1983's "Sleepaway Camp," a slasher film viewed as a classic by some and unforgivable schlock by others. There are five (you read that right) films in the series, but none have been able to capture the magic or reputation of the first one. Introducing scream queen Felissa Rose in her very first feature, "Sleepaway Camp" is a notorious bit of '80s camp (literal and metaphorical) known for casting actual teenagers to play the campers.

I went on my first and only trek in my life, back in 2016. A person who regularly goes mountain climbing would find that trek rather easy, but for a non-adventurous person like me, it was quite a daunting task. Some parts of it were really scary. But the feeling of pulling it off was unparalleled as well. I will probably never go on another trek again, but I am forever going to cherish that particular moment of reaching the top as one of the most thrilling and satisfying moments of my life. The reason I am bringing it all up here is the new Netflix documentary Camp Courage. At its core, it is essentially the story of a little girl, all about ten, going on a camping trip. However, it is much more than that.
The little girl happens to be Milana, who went on this camping trip in the...

Plenty of haunted, Halloween and holiday options will crop up on Netflix in the month of October. The harvest doesn’t seem too lean despite the almost five-month writers strike that viewers are sure to feel next year, but at least the WGA and AMPTP have reached a deal, and hopefully, SAG-AFTRA is not too far behind. Luckily, Halloween and fall have a classic canon of films and TV shows that stretches back decades, and some of those staple watches will be available through Netflix throughout the month.

Exclusive: Comedic multi-hyphenate Julio Torres (A24’s Problemista) has struck a deal with Ars Nova, the Off-Broadway, non-profit theater in NYC, that will see them partner to identify, develop, and commission full-length projects from early-career comedy artists.
The collaboration further expands Ars Nova’s two-decade commitment to new comedy at a time when support systems for NYC-based artists have decreased. Under the partnership, Torres and Ars Nova will look to provide comedians with opportunities for development and production outside of the traditional model of sketch shows and 10-minute sets. They’ll offer funding up front to create brand new, uniquely theatrical shows, while providing mentorship and development resources to the artists involved, the first set for a commission being Ars Nova Vision Residency Alum River L. Ramirez. Others will be announced at a later date.
To celebrate the alliance, Torres will return to the Ars Nova stage on October 26 to host Showgasm.

In the four years since the Walt Disney Company bought 20th Century Fox and Fox Searchlight, the core studio — now known as 20th Century Studios — has become for the most part a content mill for its streaming services.
Some key IP — like next summer’s “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” — are still deemed worthy of theaters but most 20th Century Studios films, like the true-crime thriller “Boston Strangler” and “Vacation Friends 2,” are streaming-bound.
Insiders differ on whether this is a temporary situation caused by Covid variables, a Wall Street-driven rush to streaming and an uncertain theatrical marketplace playing their parts. Will the formally theatrically-focused powerhouse fade into Disney-backed irrelevancy or might an improved theatrical marketplace offer the former titan a chance to be more than just a streaming supply arm for the Walt Disney Company?
In March of 2019, the Walt Disney Company paid $71 billion for Fox Studios.

Anyone who knows and loves a theater kid understands that they can be… a little much. To their credit, theater kids accept and embrace this reputation. Both the excessiveness of theater kids and their willingness to celebrate their extremities can be seen in the comedy Theater Camp, directed by Molly Gordon and Nick Lieberman. After winning over critics and earning a strong, if limited, return in theaters, Theater Camp has come to Hulu.
Based on a short film that Gordon and Lieberman made with Ben Platt and Noah Galvin, Theater Camp features a group of theater kids trying to save their camp from the founder’s jerky son, who wants to sell it off for something more profitable. Both self-aware and sincere, Theater Camp is a love letter to the over-the-top nerds who can sing every word of A Chorus Line and know that Andrew Rannells was in Street Sharks.

A24’s supernatural horror Talk To Me by first time filmmakers Danny and Michael Philippou blew past box office projections grossing over $10 million on 2,340 screens opening weekend. The breakout by the first-time filmmaker brothers and popular YouTubers from Australia was no. six at the domestic box office.
The film was well reviewed as a fresh spin on the possession tale and had great exits with a B+ Cinemascore — pretty much tops for horror, especially indie horror — and A24’s best wide-release Cinemascore ever across all genres.
It’s the distributor’s biggest opening weekend ever since 2018’s Hereditary from Ari Aster, who gave a big shoutout to Talk To Me at Sundance, where it premiered and was snapped up by A24 in a bidding war. Hereditary opened at $13.6 million on 2,900 screens. It’s arguably rather rare for indie films to cross $10 million in a weekend, (especially post-pandemic), marking another breakout...

That follows a notable opening last week when the Ben Platt and Gordon-starrer sported a $50.2k PSA — Searchlight’s biggest PSA for a limited opening since Jojo Rabbit in 2019. It will move to another 35-40 markets next week, hitting 600-800 locations by August.
New markets this week included Austin, Boston, Chicago, Denver, Phoenix, San Francisco, Washington, D.C., and Toronto, with The Metreon in San Francisco, Boston Commons, Camelview Scottsdale and Alamo Sloans Lake in Denver among top locations.

Molly Gordon on Making Directorial Debut ‘Theater Camp’ and Reuniting With Ayo Edebiri on ‘The Bear’
This interview was conducted before SAG-AFTRA authorized a strike on July 13.
In 2019, Molly Gordon worked for three days on Ramy, the Hulu show about a man exploring his faith in New York City, and it changed her life. She was 23, in the nascent stages of a career she had been dreaming about since childhood. That year, she had roles in Olivia Wilde’s Booksmart and Gene Stupnitsky’s Good Boys, but her time on set with creator Ramy Youssef and executive producer Chris Storer served as what she describes as a “turning point” creatively.
This summer, she marked another professional milestone with the July 14 release of Theater Camp, her screenwriting and directorial debut, which she had been working on for years with longtime friends Ben Platt, Noah Galvin and Nick Lieberman. Gordon also stars in the mockumentary-style comedy about an eccentric group of artists working to save their summer camp for kids from financial ruin.

Not since Ben Affleck and Matt Damon’s “Good Will Hunting” has a group of actors (and actual friends) so felicitously taken a movie into their own hands.
Two childhood pals, Tony winner Ben Platt (“Dear Evan Hansen”) and “The Bear” star Molly Gordon, alongside Gordon’s “Booksmart” co-star Noah Galvin, plus Nick Lieberman, their go-to video director, spent the early days of the pandemic writing “Theater Camp,” itself a feature version of their 2020 18-minute mockumentary of the same name.
Platt, Gordon, and Galvin also starred in both the short (financed by Platt) and the feature film, while Lieberman directed the short and co-directed the feature with Gordon. The four are also all credited producers. Talk about do-it-yourself.
Platt and Lieberman have collaborated on improv and sketch comedy videos since they were just teenagers. “He is like a vital voice in the group as a director and a writer,” Platt told IndieWire.

These delectably cheesy flicks have achieved legendary status, eliciting uproarious laughter and spine-tingling cringes in equal measure.
Before we delve into the world of campy horror movies though, we should probably answer the question: What is camp? It's the B-movie that's loud and proud. The intentionally over-the-top horror movie that winks at the audience, saying, “Sure, we might be cheesy and predictable, but isn't that part of the bloody charm?” Camp is a whirlwind of blood-splattered delight, where rubber monsters and questionable dialogue collide in a gleeful explosion of entertainment.

We now have an all-new generation of drive-in horror moviegoers, who seek out unique programming and a chance to see their favorite cult films on the massive outdoor screen.
Whether your a frequent visitor of the drive-in or have always wanted to experience it for yourself, mark your calendars for October 6-8 and make plans to head to Las Vegas for the 3rd annual World Drive-In Movie Festival and Jamboree! With three days of movies, music, vendors, and more, there's something for everyone and we have all the initial details, including the reveal of a...
