Director Yorgos Lanthimos’ highly-anticipated anthology film Kinds Of Kindness has a full trailer ahead of its release in the UK next month.
Yorgos Lanthimos and Emma Stone revealed their latest collaboration, Kinds Of Kindness, to the world at Cannes this month. Following 2019’s The Favourite and last year’s Poor Things, hopes are high that the film formerly known as And will continue their hot streak.
An anthology film, Stone and her fellow actors play multiple roles across three stories. We’ll be able to see the movie for ourselves in just under a month’s time when it releases in the UK. In the interim, Searchlight Pictures has released the full trailer, which we’ve enclosed below.
Here’s a synopsis, which is admirably vague in its wording:

With his latest film, Kinds Of Kindness, only hitting the Croisette at the Cannes Film Festival a few short days ago, Yorgos Lanthimos could've been forgiven for taking a breather to soak up some rays on the French Riviera — but that's just not the Poor Things filmmaker's style. As reported by THR, Lanthimos' next project, sci-fi comedy Bugonia, has been snapped up by Focus Features and Universal. And what's more, his Kinds Of Kindness leads Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons are set to star.
As we shared back in February, Lanthimos' next film will be an English-language remake of Joon-Hwan Jang's 2003 South Korean sci-fi comedy Save The Green Planet. The original movie's barmy plot follows a conspiracy-obsessed man who becomes convinced that a number of his homeland's top brass are secretly reptilian alien invaders bent on Earth's destruction, going so far as to abduct several of them in an...

Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons will reunite with director Yorgos Lanthimos for the upcoming movie Bugonia, filming later this year.
Given that Yorgos Lanthimos and Emma Stone’s creative partnership seems as strong as ever, you won’t be surprised to hear that the duo have announced that they will be collaborating once more on Lanthimos’ next film, Bugonia. Also rejoining the fray will be Jesse Plemons who also starred in Lanthimos’ last film, the soon-to-release Kinds Of Kindness.
Here’s what we know about Bugonia so far: according to The Hollywood Reporter, 'the film is based on the 2003 South Korean sci-fi comedy, Save the Green Planet, with the English-language version being produced by Midsommar director Ari Aster and Lars Knudsen at Square Peg.’
The script is by Will Tracy, writer of 2022’s excellent satire, The Menu.

As we have reported earlier, Oscar-nominated Greek director and filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos certainly doesn’t waste time. Last year’s Poor Things, starring Emma Stone and Willem Dafoe, ended up winning multiple Academy Awards and becoming a major global his, while his upcoming film Kinds of Kindness, also starring Stone, Dafoe, and Jesse Plemons, is being praised by critics after its Cannes premiere, but the Greek filmmaker is already working on his next project, a remake of the 2003 award-winning South Korean sci-fi comedy, Save the Green Planet!, which is set to be titled Bugonia.
We have already reported on the movie, and our earlier report contained rumors that Jesse Plemons and Emma Stone would be reuniting with Lanthimos for the upcoming movie, but nothing had been confirmed at the time. Today, we have finally received an official confirmation that the two of them will be portraying the main roles in the movie.

A little while ago, a hot rumor suggested that Emma Stone would be re-teaming with director Yorgos Lanthimos a remake of the South Korean classic, Save the Green Planet. Less than twenty-four hours after the triumphant Cannes premiere of their follow-up to Poor Things, Kinds of Kindness comes official word that the movie is indeed happening. The movie, which is now titled Bugonia, will also re-team Stone with her Kinds of Kindness co-star Jesse Plemons, whose performance in the film is generating awards buzz.
Here’s the official synopsis from distributor Focus Features:

Bugonia has been picked up by Focus Features for the U.S., with Universal Pictures distributing internationally. Yorgos Lanthimos can’t stop (won’t stop!) working with Oscar winner Emma Stone, casting the actress once again as leading lady for his next project “Bugonia.”
The drama will also star Jesse Plemons who, along with Stone, appears in Lanthimos’ forthcoming “Kinds of Kindness.” That three-chapter feature just premiered on Friday at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
“Bugonia” follows two conspiracy-obsessed young men who kidnap the high-powered CEO of a major company, convinced that she is an alien intent on destroying planet Earth. The script is from heat-seeking “Succession” and “The Menu” writer Will Tracy.
Focus Features has won domestic rights to distribute the project. Universal Pictures will roll out the film in global territories, save Korea where “Parasite” producer Cj Enm will release. The latter is financing the film with Fremantle. CAA Media Finance and WME Independent brokered the rights deal.
This package is loaded with pedigree.

Focus Features has taken worldwide rights to Yorgos Lanthimos’ latest project Bugonia, the remake of South Korean sci-fi comedy Save the Green Planet, which sees the Greek director reunite yet again with Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons. The trio are here in Cannes with their Competition title Kinds of Kindness, which had its world premiere Friday.
Focus will release Bugonia in the U.S., with Universal Pictures distributing the title internationally (excluding South Korea). It’s the second deal for Focus Features announced in Cannes this week (Focus picked up Woody Harrelson starrer Last Breath a few days ago), but this one will be a notable coup for the studio given that Lanthimos’ previous Oscar-winning titles The Favourite and Poor Things as well as Cannes contender Kinds of Kindness were all handled by Searchlight for distribution.

Irish production company Element Pictures is firing on all cylinders, as company partners Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe bring three very different pictures to Cannes.
The Yorgos Lanthimos producers are still smiling after a nail-biter Oscar night that yielded four wins for “Poor Things,” including Best Actress for Emma Stone. She also stars in all three episodes in Lanthimos’ follow-up, the $15-million black comedy “Kinds of Kindness” along with returning co-stars Willem Dafoe and Margaret Qualley and Lanthimos newbie Jesse Plemons, who leads the first two episodes. He gets to show what he can do throughout; Stone delivers an emotional performance in the ultimate story.
Each of the stories features the same actors, but with different emphasis. Lanthimos had his eye on Plemons for a while, said Lowe on Zoom, and finally found a film for him: “When the right thing comes along, Yorgos pounces. He’s specific about casting.

Getting a feature into Cannes’ official selection is among the pinnacles of filmmaking achievements for most production companies. Ireland’s Element Pictures clearly isn’t most production companies — this year, it has three.
According to co-founder Ed Guiney, who set up Element with Andrew Lowe in 2001, while his company’s triple-headed festival visit may be “wonderful”, it’s simply down to good fortune and timing. “You know, some years you have nothing for Cannes,” he says, speaking from Element’s breezy, white-walled Dublin headquarters, located above an outdoor clothing shop and a jeweler on the Irish capital’s busy O’Connell Street, where it also runs its distribution arm Volta Pictures and the programming for the popular arthouse Light House Cinema, which it has operated since 2012.
But for anyone who has been keeping an eye on Element over the last decade, this edition of Cannes is merely another unprecedented milestone...

Emma Stone is proving two Oscars and being an Emmy hopeful isn’t a curse by any means.
The “Poor Things” Academy Award winner is already starring in Yorgos Lanthimos’ follow-up “Kinds of Kindness,” which will debut at Cannes 2024, and she’s also attached to Lanthimos’ upcoming satirical film “Save the Green Planet,” a remake of the Korean comedy of the same name. But Stone has yet another project in the works too: leading an untitled Universal feature directed by her real-life husband.
Stone is in talks to star in the movie that would be directed by Dave McCary, who is also in talks, an individual with knowledge of the project told IndieWire. The two most recently worked together as executive producers on the Showtime series “The Curse.” Stone and McCary together work under their production banner Fruit Tree.

The Greek auteur is at it again! Here’s the first trailer for Kinds Of Kindness, Yorgos Lanthimos’ first film after Poor Things.
It’s only been a few weeks since Yorgos Lanthimos’ Poor Things took home several Oscars, including Best Actress for Emma Stone. You’d think that the Greek director would like a little break, but there’s no rest for the wicked – or, more to the point, for Lanthimos either.
We reported a while back that Kinds Of Kindness, which seems to have been previously titled And, was set as Lanthimos’ next film and that it would take the form of an anthology. The film has changed its title to Kinds Of Kindness, and we’ve now got a very brief teaser trailer ahead of the film’s June release.
Take a look at the first Kinds Of Kindness trailer below.

Yorgos Lanthimos is examining the kinds of cruelty in his latest film “Kinds of Kindness.”
The feature, which was originally titled “And”, marks Lanthimos’ eighth film and reunites the auteur with two-time Oscar winner Emma Stone following her recent “Poor Things” Best Actress win. Stone previously garnered her first Oscar after starring in Lanthimos’ “The Favourite.”
While the plot details for the Searchlight Pictures release remain elusive, we do know that “Kinds of Kindness” is an anthology film with three separate storylines that collide. Stone stars alongside her “Poor Things” co-stars Willem Dafoe and Margaret Qualley, plus Jesse Plemons, Hunter Schafer, Joe Alwyn, Hong Chau, and Mamoudou Athie.
“It’s great to be working again with Emma,” Lanthimos told The Guardian about the project. “It makes it so much easier to have someone there who trusts you so much, and who you trust so much.” The duo are next set...

Oscar-nominated Greek director and filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos is certainly keeping busy. With last year’s Poor Things starring Emma Stone and Willem Dafoe winning multiple Academy Awards, and his next film Kinds of Kindness, also starring Stone, Dafoe, and Jesse Plemons, releasing later this year, the Greek filmmaker is already working on his next project, a remake of the 2003 award-winning South Korean sci-fi comedy, Save the Green Planet!.
The original movie was written and directed by Jang Joon-hwan and tells the story of a man called Lee Byeong-gu, who kidnaps another man convinced that he is actually an alien. The movie won numerous awards in Asia and the world back in 2003, although it never became a global hit due to the fact that Korean cinematography was not as popular back then as it is now. “Kinds of Kindness,” the next collaboration between director Yorgos Lanthimos and star Emma Stone, will debut in theaters this summer.
Searchlight, the indie studio that’s distributing the film, added it to the release calendar on June 21.
Though the plot remains under wraps, “Kinds of Kindness” is an anthology film that reunites Stone with her “Poor Things” co-stars Willem Dafoe and Margaret Qualley, as well as “The Favourite” actor Joe Alwyn. Jesse Plemons, Hong Chau, Hunter Schafer and Mamoudou Athie will round out the cast.
Lanthimos penned the screenplay with Efthimis Filippou, with whom he co-wrote the dark thrillers and absurdist comedies, “The Lobster,” “Killing of a Sacred Deer” and “Dogtooth.” The movie, originally titled “And,” was shot in New Orleans in late 2022.

Emma Stone is now a two-time Oscar winner.
The “Poor Things” actress took home the top title for her latest collaboration with auteur Yorgos Lanthimos. Stone previously won Best Actress in 2017 for Damien Chazelle’s “La La Land.” Stone was formerly nominated for Oscars for “Birdman” and Lanthimos’ “The Favourite.”
“Poor Things” marks Stone’s third collaboration with Lanthimos. The duo are set to work together on upcoming films “Kinds of Kindness” and “Save the Green Planet,” a remake of Jang Joon-hwan’s 2005 sci-fi satire.
Stone plays Bella Baxter in “Poor Things.” Bella is a reanimated (and renamed) woman who, after committing suicide while pregnant, is brought back to life with the brain of her unborn child. Bella explores her turn-of-the-century world and voyages across 1800s Europe. The film is inspired by Scottish author Alasdair Gray’s 1992 novel about a woman who drowns herself to escape her abusive husband. The...

In John Carpenter’s horror classic The Thing, R.J. MacReady (Kurt Russell) somberly explains to his tape recorder, “Nobody trusts anybody now, and we’re all very tired.” The now iconic quote summarizes the exhaustive state of sustained paranoia induced by the shape-shifting, extraterrestrial threat that has infiltrated the ranks of an isolated Antarctic research station, seamlessly assuming the identities of its inhabitants.
Isolation, mistrust, and intense paranoia drive Carpenter’s classic 1982 horror movie, heightening the effectiveness of the horror to a tangible degree; and it’s far from the only horror movie to effectively wield paranoia like a sharp blade. This week’s streaming picks highlight intense horror movies that unfurl their unrelenting tension, disorienting distrust, and discomfort through a heavy emphasis on paranoia, whether internal or external.
Here’s where you can stream them this week.

Hot on the heel of the announcement that filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos is to direct the remake of the Korean movie ‘Save The Green Planet’ BAFTA Winner, Emma Stone has entered into talks to join the cast.
Stone is thought to be up for playing a supporting role. The latest project would mark Lanthimos and Stone’s sixth collaboration. The pair first worked together on ‘The Favourite’ and will next have ‘Kinds of Kindness,’ an anthology film which also stars Jesse Plemons, Willem Dafoe and Margaret Qualley. ‘Kinds of Kindness’ is slated to be released later this year and could world premiere at Cannes.
Originally a South Korean film directed by Jang Joon-hwan in 2003, the eccentric black comedy involves a disillusioned young man who captures and tortures a businessman whom he believes to be part of an alien invasion. A battle of wits ensues between the captor, his devoted girlfriend, the businessman and a private detective.

This isn't one to file under Most Surprising News Ever, but it appears that star Emma Stone and director Yorgos Lanthimos are looking to get the filmmaking band together again. Following the success of The Favourite and Poor Things, they already have one more film together under their belts via anthology Kinds Of Kindness, but with news that Lanthimos is looking at remaking South Korean fantasy comedy Save The Green Planet as his next film, Stone is in talks to join him in that endeavor as well.
The original, directed by Joon-Hwan Jang and released in 2003, is about Lee Byeong-gu (Shin Ha-kyun), who dives deep into conspiracy theories and starts to suspect that a number of political and big business types are secretly aliens, the reptilian first wave for an invasion of Earth. When he spirits some away to an underground command centre to torture information from them, he hits the Most Wanted list.

Yorgos Lanthimos’ “Poor Things” was one of the biggest arthouse hits of 2023 and remains a frontrunner in several major Oscar categories. But as the film’s award season run comes to a close, Lanthimos might already be looking ahead to his next directing gig.
According to a new report in Variety, Lanthimos is planning to direct a remake of Jang Joon-hwan’s 2005 sci-fi satire “Save the Green Planet” for Element Pictures, which also produced “Poor Things.” The genre-bending film, which has long been a source of inspiration for cinematic provocateurs like Ari Aster, follows a man who captures and tortures a pharmaceutical executive that he believes to be part of an ongoing alien invasion.

Given that he's largely stuck to wildly original material, the notion of Greek filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos pivoting to a remake is an intriguing one, despite the alarm bells it might set howling online. According to Variety, the director is now aboard a new version of South Korean fantasy comedy Save The Green Planet.
Director Joon-Hwan Jang's 2003 debut follows Lee Byeong-gu (Shin Ha-kyun), who comes to believe that a number of Korean leaders and top business types are secretly reptilian aliens driving an invasion of his beloved planet Earth. When he abducts several and absconds with them to a basement command centre to start prying information from their scaly brains, the authorities hire a skilled private detective to track him and his victims down. “Poor Things” director Yorgos Lanthimos will reteam with Element Pictures on a remake of South Korean fantasy comedy “Save the Green Planet,” Variety has learned.
Lanthimos — whose latest film, “Poor Things,” is nominated for 11 Oscars and just won five BAFTAs (including best actress for Emma Stone) — is expected to start shooting the movie in the U.K. and New York this summer. Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe at Element Pictures will produce the movie alongside Ari Aster’s Square Peg and Cj Enm (previously named Cj Entertainment). Among the new releases this week is Brian Duffield’s No One Will Save You, a home invasion with an alien twist starring Kaitlyn Dever and debuting on Hulu on September 22. With it comes the realization of how scarcely populated the sci-fi horror subgenre gets regarding the iconic Gray aliens. These quintessential aliens have emerged recently in the news, but their cinematic counterparts are rarer. That’s a shame, considering how effectively they induce terror, as evidenced by M. Night Shyamalan’s Signs (on Max).
This week’s streaming picks are dedicated to the quieter alien invasions. These sci-fi horror films revolve around the Grays and similar extraterrestrials that are more content to invade and toy with their prey quietly.

Should it not be fair to say in the minds of every soul seeking out an existence lies even a modicum of conspiratorial curiosity? That, even in open defiance of logic and rationality, what we consider to be truth is nothing more than a cleverly constructed illusion propped up by some faceless organisation to keep what is truth oblivious to all but a select few? Conspiracies have been abound for time immemorial but, in an age of flippant misinformation and “alternative truth” lunacy, such flirtations have become politicized, weaponized, and, in at least one particular instance, treasonous. In Jang Joon-hwan’s insatiably riotous debut, far-flung craziness runs amok in the guise of Byeong-gu, a young man who believes it is up to him to Save the Green Planet from an imminent alien invasion; shockingly, he has his audience hanging upon his every word.

A24 has come on board to finance and produce the next film from “Midsommar” director Ari Aster, “Disappointment Blvd.” with Joaquin Phoenix officially onboard to star.
Aster’s “Disappointment Blvd.,” which will be his third feature film, was initially rumored late last year with Phoenix circling, but the film was never formally announced (original rumors had the film pegged as “Beau Is Afraid”). A24 has also previously handled Aster’s other two films “Midsommar” and “Hereditary.”
Plot details are being kept under wraps for “Disappointment Blvd.,” but it is described as “an intimate, decades-spanning portrait of one of the most successful entrepreneurs of all time.”
A24 will produce alongside Ari Aster and Lars Knudsen, who will produce for their production banner Square Peg.
Both “Hereditary” from 2018 and “Midsommar” from 2019 were critically acclaimed and performed well at the box office. “Hereditary” grossed $80 million at the worldwide box office and earned high...
