Last month surely wasn’t the best time for CBS, with the network receiving backlash after canceling several successful shows at once. The list of unfortunate series that were unfairly scrapped included one of the NCIS franchise’s spinoffs NCIS: Hawai’i, and fans were left bewildered by such a harsh decision as literally nobody, including the cast, had seen it coming.
The show lovers’ own investigations proved that the spinoff wasn’t that unprofitable for CBS as its ratings were pretty much decent, but now it seems like the network’s other show and its raving success may be the most solid reason for the cancellation.
At least TV Insider writer Matt Roush’s article suggests so. According to him, the hit status of Young Sheldon, a prequel for CBS’ famous sitcom The Big Bang Theory which recounts Sheldon Cooper’s earlier years in Texas, may have been the final...

NCIS’ successful spinoff show NCIS: Hawai’i is officially over after a 3-season run, and so many good things sank into oblivion with it after all the cancellation news.
While devoted fans are still trying to bring their favorite show back to the screen, it seems to be barely possible and the series’ huge milestone that no other NCIS show ever had may be gone too unless the franchise’s original series steps in.
Before NCIS: Hawai’i was unfairly canceled, it had a nearly perfect LGBTQ+ community representation thanks to the show’s characters Kate Whistler and Lucy Tara. The relationships between Whistler and Tara evolved in a very natural way proving that the characters had a lot of love and care for each other with no sexual undertone highlighted throughout the show.
Apart from that, NCIS: Hawai’i introduced the storyline not as something that will come and go, but rather...

NCIS: Hawai’i’s story may be over, but some of its actors aren’t going anywhere, and in quite a weird way. The show was officially canceled earlier this year after 3 seasons, but the NCIS franchise lives on with the original show’s continuous long-standing run and two more spinoffs making their way to the screens quite soon.
Though characters’ shift from one show to another within the same universe is something normal on modern TV, the recent casting news regarding one of NCIS’ spinoffs isn’t what fans may have expected in this case at all.
Though NCIS: Hawai’i has been unfairly ditched, NCIS nonetheless gets more space to expand its universe by diving deeper into the main characters’ personal and professional stories.
The franchise is officially set to release a separate series titled NCIS: Origins which will now revolve around the original show’s pivotal character, Leroy Jethro Gibbs,...

This year, several television shows have been canceled much to the chagrin of fans. Several of them were popular shows that still got good ratings. However, some of them also didn’t get proper endings. An example is CSI: Vegas, which will end with several cliffhangers. Another show this happened to was So Help Me Todd.
Fans have lashed out at the network about the show’s ending and here is what you need to know.
So Help Me Todd Ends Series With Cliffhanger
When CBS explained why it was canceling shows like Blue Bloods, the network said it needed to “freshen up” the schedule by adding new shows. That means some fan-favorite shows had to end. However, they also said that they wanted to allow the shows to end on notes that ended the stories.

Las Vegas crime lab supervisor Maxine Roby is “in a bit of a noodle” for much of CSI: Vegas‘ Season 3-slash-series finale, airing this Sunday at 10/9c.

Family Guy was one of the biggest stars of the 2024 upfronts, prominently featured at two different presentations – Fox and Disney. Seth MacFarlane’s animated hit helped open Fox’s event and then was part of a Disney skit featuring an animated version of the company’s ad chief Rita Ferro making a sales pitch while hanging out with Peter Griffin and his dog, Brian.
Ironically, upfront presentations focus on fall schedules, and, despite all the attention, Family Guy actually is not on the fall schedule for the first time since the show was resurrected by Fox 19 years ago..
Both Fox and Disney have the right to claim Family Guy — Fox airs it and Disney produces it through 20th Television Animation.

“Killing Eve” made its way onto Nielsen’s weekly streaming rankings for the April 15-21 viewing window, enjoying a similar effect as titles like “Suits” and “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” that have seen increased popularity upon being added to Netflix despite having concluded years ago. The BBC thriller was watched for 719 million minutes in its first week on the streamer, landing at No. 8 on the chart.
But an interesting aspect of the series’ surge is the demographic breakdown of its audience. Per Nielsen, one third of “Killing Eve” viewership this week came from people age 65 and above, representing the largest concentration of viewers. That’s a surprise for a series perhaps most famous for the sexual tension between its two female leads, with one being a psychopathic assassin.

Netflix’s Baby Reindeer entered the streaming top 10 in mid-April, and given the continued buzz around the series, it’s likely to stay around for a while.
The show drew 673 million minutes of viewing for the week of April 15-21, according to Nielsen’s latest streaming rankings. That was good for third place among original series and ninth among all titles.
Prime Video’s Fallout had a second straight huge week, if not quite as big as its first. It had 2.62 billion minutes of watch time, off a slight 10 percent from its opening week, which was the best single week for a Prime Video show since Nielsen began its streaming rankings almost four years ago. It’s also the first show that doesn’t stream on Netflix to have back-to-back weeks above 2 billion minutes of viewing.

It should be business as usual for the 2024-2025 season, with a mix of returning and new shows in the networks’ primetime lineup. As always, there are dramas, comedies, animated series, and unscripted shows filling the time slots. There are some changes. CBS once again has back-to-back NCIS shows, but it’s the new prequel Origins, taking over Hawai’i‘s timeslot following the spinoff’s cancellation. CBS is also going with what it knows works, with the Young Sheldon spinoff, Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, taking over the franchise’s Thursday night slot. The network will also be airing the final episodes of Blue Bloods this fall. And Fox shocked fans by moving Family Guy to midseason for the first time since 2005. CBS’ police procedural drama show NCIS has been a solid game player on TV for more than twenty years now, especially after the show cemented its position as an unyielding installment on the channel when it launched several spinoffs that also got everyone’s acclaim.
While all of the previous spinoffs followed quite the same pattern over the years of their television run, the new ones seem to be breaking the whole franchise’s most common code and thus expanding it even more.
Initially started back in 2003, NCIS was continuing its successful TV path accompanied by four spinoffs with each and one of them going into different geographical directions, quite literally.
The first series titled NCIS: Los Angeles kicked it off in 2009 and followed the Los Angeles-based Office of Special Projects, a separate division of NCIS. The same suit was followed by NCIS: New Orleans, NCIS: Hawai’i and NCIS: Sydney,...

When an estimated 1,000 international TV buyers descend on Los Angeles for the annual TV event known as the LA Screenings, they will see a contracted market still recovering from the twin Hollywood strikes of last year and, to a somewhat lesser extent, the pandemic.
It kicks off with the LA Screenings Independents, held May 15-17 for smaller studios and distributors at the Fairmont Century Plaza Hotel, which are then followed by screenings at the major studios’ respective lots across May 18-22 where they present their latest shows. They may also host a variety of events for their clients during those days, which may include cocktail receptions and luncheons or dinners with talent and executives.
While stalled projects ramped up as soon as the strikes ended, some delays were inevitable. “A couple of months ago I was wondering if we were going to be entertaining [buyers],” says Lisa Kramer, president, International Content Licensing,...

The Significant Impact of NCIS Hawaii on LGBTQ+ Representation The recent cancellation of NCIS: Hawaii marks not just the end of a television show, but also a setback in the progress of LGBTQ+ representation within the NCIS franchise. Vanessa Lachey made history with her role as Jane Tennant, being both the first woman and person of color to lead in the franchise. Her groundbreaking portrayal added a new layer of diversity and strength to the series. Gutted, confused, blindsided. Grateful, confident, beloved fans. NCIS: Hawai’i cancellation news back in April stirred the show’s whole fandom up, but things got even worse when the season 3 finale proved there was supposed to be another season before the series was scrapped for no reason.

Cancelations suck, and the 2024 season has been particularly brutal.
Long-running favorites such as Station 19, Blue Bloods, and Young Sheldon are going off the air, leaving fans brokenhearted -- and actors out of a steady gig.
Sometimes, actors land a new gig right away, and other times, they struggle to find new work. The cancellations were recently announced, so not everyone has had the opportunity to move on to a new project yet, but there are some interesting things in the works.

NCIS’ season 21 has finally arrived in full, proving that there will be some major changes in the upcoming season 22. The show’s latest episodes showed one of NCIS Special Agents Jessica Knight, portrayed by Katrina Law, accepting an offer to be promoted to React Chief Training Officer at Camp Pendleton, the position that will eventually and inevitably transfer her to the other side of the country.

The NCIS: Hawai’i cast formed a strong bond while filming that they don’t want to let go.
Key cast members shared beautiful photos from a beach where they said goodbye to each other and the series.
CBS canceled NCIS: Hawai’i recently, ending the series after three strong seasons.
Despite a fan petition to save the series, the network pushed on with a Fall 2024 schedule that doesn’t include the NCIS spin-off.
Instead, NCIS: Origins takes over on Monday nights, with the prequel series set to debut after episodes from NCIS Season 22.
Vanessa Lachey recently returned to Hawai’i to ponder what had happened, and she even apologized to her cast and crew for not getting a proper goodbye.

An NCIS: Origins cast video was released to get potential viewers excited.
This new show from the NCISverse is taking some risks, as the producers hope fans want to see stories from younger versions of some important characters.
Flashback episodes of NCIS went over very well, with stories like when Leroy Jethro Gibbs first met Donald Mallard. They even had Mark Harmon’s son (Sean Harmon) play a younger version of Gibbs.
The idea to do flashbacks has been fleshed out into a full series, with episodes of NCIS: Origins debuting in Fall 2024.
The new show gets the 10/9c timeslot on Mondays that has been vacated by NCIS: Hawai’i. Unfortunately, the Vanessa Lachey NCIS spin-off was canceled by CBS.
NCIS Season 22 will air on Mondays at 9/8c in the fall, serving as the lead-in for this new prequel show.

Given some big changes that will affect the original show’s plot pretty soon, the franchise still has a chance to make it up to its big loss that hit a major milestone back in the day.
Amid the fans’ raging reaction about NCIS: Hawaii’s cancellation right before letting a big cliffhanger out for the public to reconcile with, this isn’t the only reason why the show is indeed such a big deal for its viewers and for the present-day television as well.
Ending its run after only three seasons the first one of which was launched in 2021, NCIS: Hawaii started an important trend of aspiring for same-sex relationships’ accurate representation on screen, the aspect that later on became a merit for the whole NCIS franchise.
Though the police procedural drama show’s other spinoffs also demonstrated several gay couples throughout their plot, things are pretty much different...

Peak TV may be over, but even in a time of industrywide contraction, another era is forging ahead unabated: Welcome to Peak Franchise TV.
Spinoffs of successful series are almost as old as network TV itself — the first ones premiered in the late 1950s. The current state of the business, however, with its nearly boundless viewing options for both old and new programming, is uniquely set up to reward investment in building franchises. On the broadcast networks alone, the 2023-24 season will feature 21 scripted series that are part of a franchise, defined as a show that has spun off another series set in the same world or is itself a spinoff.
They range from Law & Order: Svu — the longest-running primetime drama in U.S. TV history — to Young Sheldon, the Big Bang Theory prequel that’s set to air its final episodes in May (and which itself will spawn another...

Prime Video has touted the viewer response to Fallout as its second-biggest series ever worldwide over 16 days of release. In the United States (and over a shorter time period), it’s No. 1.
Fallout recorded 2.9 billion minutes of viewing time in the U.S. over its first five days, according to Nielsen’s streaming ratings for April 8-14. That’s far and away the best opening for a series on the Amazon-owned Prime Video, beating Reacher’s series premiere week in early 2022 (1.84 billion minutes) by more than a billion minutes.
The series also had more than double the second-place show on the list for the week: Bluey had 1.39 billion minutes of viewing in the week leading up to and including the release of its special episode “The Sign,” which premiered on April 14.

NCIS’ upcoming prequel centring on Mark Harmon's Leroy Jethro Gibbs is gradually piecing together as the show is getting its preps for the production. Coming under the name NCIS: Origins, the series will take the viewers back to 1991 showing Gibbs, this time portrayed by younger actor Austin Stowell, at the very start of his NCIS agent’s career.
While CBS is all excited to find a substitute for the canceled NCIS: Hawaii’s time slot, some fans don’t seem to be that enthusiastic after the show’s execs released its first promo image.
The NCIS: Origins’ image gives a first look at Stowell as young Gibbs, and though the actor seems to be a good fit for the show, something in there still doesn’t look quite right. Some fans were quick to point out that, surprisingly, it’s Stowell’s hairstyle that spoils the whole impression of the character’s younger version.

CBS’ police procedural thriller show NCIS has been having quite a good time on TV with the recent season 21 being aired and multiple spinoff series making their way to the show universe’s expansion.

Fans were eagerly awaiting the third season of NCIS: Hawai’i, considered by many to be the best NCIS project, and when the show finally started airing, it ended right there: the series was canceled after the third season. Thus, Hawai’i became the NCIS project with the shortest run, which it obviously did not deserve.
Moreover, fans hoped that within a month of the cancellation news, the writers would have time to come up with a worthy ending that would conclude the arcs of all the characters. However, what fans saw in the final episode may have upset them even more than the cancellation itself – a big, fat cliffhanger.

Started back in 2021 as one more spinoff of CBS’ military police procedural show NCIS, NCIS: Hawaii didn’t last long on TV ending its run this year as the shocking news broke around a month ago.
The third and last season’s finale premiered on May 6 leaving most of the series’ fans even more bewildered about the whole cancellation news. Though it may have been expected, the show’s ending wasn’t really something that would wrap the entire story up, and the viewers are now raging even more about the unfair decision.
The news that NCIS: Hawaii was officially canceled started circulating two weeks prior to season 3 finale thus leaving fans quite reassured that the show wouldn’t have a decent conclusion to all the storylines anyway.
