Some neighborhoods in which the new homes were built were in communities where property taxes were based on an average value of the homes in the community. Many older homes were replaced with houses that were significantly larger and thus more valuable, which caused others living in these communities to pay higher property taxes.
For the latter six of the original show's nine season run, the network would have two builds ongoing simultaneously, during which Pennington would commute back and forth between numerous times to complete his projects, at one point accumulating over 1 million frequent flyer miles.

Ty Pennington was the only cast member to appear in every episode. Paul DiMeo and Michael Moloney were the other two designers on the team to appear in more than 100 episodes, behind them is Paige Hemmis who appeared in 97 of them.
When fans demanded one more season of this show to comeback, producers gave the greennlight to do one more. Ty Pennington agreed and got to decide which designers to return for the season. In the end, Paige, Paul, Michael, Eduardo, Ed, Tracy and John were selected and each appeared in 3 episodes each.
