What we know is that, overall, Video On Demand (VOD) is a success. Millions of households are willing to pay $5 to watch a movie at home typically a couple of weeks before it's available on DVD (or months before it's available on Netflix). Now that video stores are all but obsolete, VOD (and often iTunes) offers the only real opportunity to see certain films. Moreover, given IFC's obsession with the format, the channel must be raking it in.
How well it's actually doing is something of a mystery. VOD grosses are almost impossible to find, and the scores of movies that debut first on VOD before a small limited release in theaters can't be doing well during their box-office runs, either (I've yet to see a film released first on VOD later find success at the box office). I have found a couple of examples of box-office bombs that thrived on VOD,...

Cliché: a phrase, expression, or idea that has been overused to the point of losing its intended force or novelty, especially when at some time it was considered distinctively forceful or novel.
With Hollywood producing so many movies ever year, it is no surprise that they are often full of clichés. Jeff Smith created this montage under the Bottoms Up Productions label for acclaimed movie blog FilmDrunk.com, showing clips of some of the biggest movie clichés from a total of 102 films. The list of films are below the video. Enjoy!

Brett Favre may have had problems sticking to a decision about his retirement over the last couple of years, but the talking heads of the Twitter-Wood feed let their opinions be known loud and clear today. In an abbreviated rundown, I've included input from Seth Meyers, Rainn Wilson and Ashton Kutcher, among others. Whatever your take, hopefully we can all agree that he was great with Cameron Diaz in "There's Something About Mary."
The second Brett in the report today, Ratner, wished his favorite director, Roman Polanski a happy birthday. Click on down to read what he had to say alongside a post-"Inglourious Basterds" suggestion for the Weinsteins, Tom Felton's return to the gym, and Ice-t's photo op with Tracy Morgan. It's in the Twitter-Wood report for August 18, 2009.

Emma Stone, whose credits include Superbad, The Rocker and The House Bunny, is in talks to join the cast of the Columbia Pictures horror-comedy Zombieland, report the trades. Woody Harrelson and Jesse Eisenberg star in the flick, which centers on a band of survivors who team to fight the living dead in the post-apocalyptic Southwest after a zombie plague ravages America. Ruben Fleischer will direct from a script by Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese. Wernick was a writer on the faux reality shows The Joe Schmo Show and Invasion Iowa and Reese’s credits include Monsters, Inc., Clifford's Really Big Movie and Cruel Intentions 3. The project will be Fleischer’s feature directorial debut. Gavin Palone (Ghost Town, My Super Ex-Girlfriend, Panic Room) is producing the film, which begins shooting in Atlanta in February. Zombieland will open in 2010.

When the zombie comedy Zombieland was first mentioned a few months back, I don’t think anyone expected a name like Woody Harrelson would eventually be attached to it. But, according to The Hollywood Reporter this morning, that’s just what’s happened!
Zombieland is the tale of two survivors of a zombie uprising who find “friendship and redemption” in a world overrun by the undead. Harrelson will play one of those survivors, a man named Albuquerque.
The script was penned by Rhett Resse & Paul Wernick (Cruel Intentions 3, “Invasion Iowa”) with directorial duties in the hands of newcomer Ruben Fleischer. Obviously Harrelson is quite a coup for the team behind Zombieland, so it’ll be interesting to see how the rest of the cast fills out.
