The original broadcast in 1969 was preceded by a 7 minute introduction by Pollo Hamburger in which he talks to costume designer Robert Bos about medieval fashions.
For the scenes with the gas in the swamp, writer Gerard Soeteman was inspired by the 1959 discovery of natural gas in Slochteren, Groningen by the NAM (Nederlandse Aardolie Maatschappij).
Set photographer Herman Baaren plays one of Lange Pier's men. He is visible in the camp giving another pirate a haircut and receiving a piece of chicken to eat.
This is the only episode of the show in which neither Floris nor Sindala appear as the main characters: both heroes do not show up until over half the episode, with the story focusing on countess Ada and Viola trying to keep the testament safe.
To distract a villain hiding behind a curtain, Ada tells Viola to play music and they sing a song. This part of the scene was improvised by Diana Dobbelman on set.
