Bryan Singer came on to direct in 2004 following his success on the X-Men series and filming was set to start in 2006. The movie went through many changes, including bringing on Christopher McQuarrie to rework the script. Singer then quit the movie in 2007, citing conflicts with Superman Returns (2006) and overall exhaustion.
In March 2018 Deadline reported that the remake could feature a female lead instead of a male. William F. Nolan, one of the two authors of the original novel, stated that he is not a fan of the idea that Logan should be female because Logan's story is his story. Just changing to a woman to be fashionable doesn't work. He said his co-author George Clayton Johnson felt the same.
In the original Logan's Run (1976), the age that you are forced to "Renew" is 30. This version has apparently chosen to return to the original novel's maximum age of 21.
