My mom and I are hooked on this show... But not necessarily because the kids have talent. Actually, most of them just need lives. Let me break it up for you, from my favorite to the one most sickening to watch.
1. Jordan Moseley: I like her and her her mother. She has talent, and she has a good attitude. For example, when she didn't get a voice over part in a show, she said "It's okay, I can't get every part I try out for." I find that very respectable in an eight-year-old child. Her mother is also cool. She doesn't seem to push her daughter, and she doesn't let acting take over their lives. She doesn't hesitate to tell Jordan when she's doing something wrong just because they're on TV, like when she told Jordan that it wasn't polite to interrupt the adults. When Jordan's teacher told her that she wasn't applying herself, she told Jordan that if she didn't do better she couldn't act anymore. I like that- She knows where hers and Jordan's priorities lie.
2. Jordan Barron: She seems like she has some talent, but she has a bad attitude, to tell you the truth. Her mother sits there and lets her daughter complain and be rude. Also, at one point, I remember her going "When Jordan is sick she doesn't have to go to school, but she can still go to auditions." Basically, acting is more important than education. Right. Great example, Mom.
3. Shane Klingensmith: No talent whatsoever. But I think he really does want to do this, and he really believes he has talent, and his mother encourages him. I think they really don't see that Shane can't sing and can't dance. At least Debbie Klingensmith isn't forcing Shane into this.
Emily Tye: This is sad, really. I have nothing against beauty pageants, but at such a young age? How can she have a childhood when she's caking on more makeup than a twenty-year-old? In this case, I have nothing against the kid, but the mother. You can tell Emily's only doing this to please her mom. If she really wanted to do this, she wouldn't cry when on the morning of the pageant. More than once I have seen her crying, saying she didn't want to do this, yet her mother makes her go on anyway. At one point, she was so low as to bribe her with candy. It's sickening. She gives her child fake tans, which Emily doesn't like, and she spends FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS on a tiny dress for a four-yearr-old. Once, Emily was complaining that she was tired, but her mother made her go on practicing. Jeez.
The Nutters: A family of 9 in a two-bedroom apartment in NYC. It's painfully obvious to everyone except the father, Duncan Nutter, that nobody in the family wants to act but him. At one point or another, I have seen every single one of the kids say or show that they don't care for acting, but he's oblivious. This is the most sickening part of the show. His wife is nice, but come on- She needs to step in and say "OK, you need to stop this nonsense." 'Cause these kids are going to grow up seriously messed up.
So that's my review. Sometimes it's nice to watch, but mostly it's sickening and scary. All I have to say is- Thank you, thank you, Mom and Dad, that I wasn't forced into anything like that when I was a kid.
