Frog and Toad Are Friends (1985) Poster

Will Ryan: Frog

Quotes

  • Narrator : [as Frog sees Toad's unchanged calendar]  Frog looked at Toad's calendar.

Frog : [goes over to the calendar]  November?

Narrator : [as Frog tears off each calendar page one at a time]  Frog tore off the November page. He tore off the December page, and the January page, the February page, and the March page.

Frog : [sighs]  It's only April now.

    [we hear a triangle tinging]

    Frog : Ohh...

[turning back to the calendar to tear off the April page]

Narrator : Frog tore off the April page, too.

  • Frog : [seeing Toad standing on his head]  Why're you standing on your head?

Toad : [as he grunts a couple of times]  I hope that if I stand on my--head, it will help me to think of a--a story.

  • Frog : [seeing Toad pour a glass of water over his head]  Wh--Why're you pouring water over your head?

Toad : [as he continues pouring glasses of water over his head]  I hope that if I pour water over my head, brrr--it will help me to think of a story.

  • Frog : [seeing Toad starting to bang his head against the wall]  Wh, Wh--Why're you banging your head against the wall?

Toad : [banging his head against the wall multiple times]  I hope that if I bang my head--oh--against the wall, it will help me to think of a story.

  • Frog : [recovering from his illness]  Uh-uh, I'm feeling much better now, Toad. I don't think I *need* a story anymore.

    [gets out of bed]

Toad : [feeling dizzy as he plods to bed]  Then you get out of bed and let *me* get into it, because now--I--feel--terrible.

  • Frog : Once upon a time--there were two good friends, a frog and a toad. The frog was not feeling well. He asked his friend, the toad, to tell him a story. So the toad walked up and down on the porch, but couldn't think of a story. He stood on his head, but he couldn't think of a story. He poured water over his head, but he couldn't think of a story. He banged his head against the wall, but he still could *not* think of a story. Then the toad did not feel so well, and--the frog was feeling better. So the toad went to bed, and the frog got up, and told him a story. The end. How was that, Toad? Uh, Toad?

Narrator : Toad did not answer. He had fallen asleep.

  • Narrator : Toad and Frog went for a *long* walk. At last, they went back home to Toad's house.

Toad : Ohhhh, drat! Not only do my feet hurt, but I have lost one of the buttons on my jacket.

Frog : Oh, well, don't worry. We'll go back to all the places where we walked. We'll soon find your button.

  • Frog : [as he finds a black button]  Oh, ha-ha, uh, here's your button!

[dashes to Toad and gives the button to him]

Toad : [seeing it's the wrong button]  Frog, this is not my button. This button is black. My button was *white*.

    Frog : Oh.

  • Frog : [finding another button, thinking it's Toad's]  Oh! Ho-ho, Toad'll be so pleased.

[clearing his throat and calling for Toad]

    Frog : Toad!

    [Toad comes over]

Frog : Toad, here's your button!

Toad : [examining the button]  Ohh, this is not my button. This button is *small*. My button was *big*.

  • Frog : [searching the riverbank for another button, then finds it and runs back to Toad]  Oh no, we'll never--oh--ooh, ooh, this has gotta be it! Toad, Toad, here is your button!

Toad : Ooooh--hoo-hoo-hoo, this is *not* my button! This button is *thin*! My button was *thick*! The whole world is covered with buttons, and not one of them is mine!

[blubbers in frustration as he runs home]

    Frog : [disappointedly]  Toad...

  • Narrator : The next day, Toad gave his jacket to Frog.

Frog : [wearing Toad's jacket and jumping for joy as he and Toad laugh]  Oh Toad, it's beautiful!

Narrator : None of the buttons fell off. Toad had sewed them on very well.
