Stars: Sarah Jurgens, Nick Baillie, Adam Tomlinson, Rebecca Amzallag, Celest Chong, Alison Louder, Manuela Casinha | Written by Adam Tomlinson | Directed by Joshua Fraiman
Rachel Darwin (Sarah Jurgens) is a young, mother-to-be, haunted by nightmares. When she wakes, looming over her is the shadowy image of a dark man with a brimmed hat. Her hotshot lawyer of a husband, Scott (Nick Baillie), doesn’t believe in any of that supernatural nonsense. It’s sleep paralysis. It’s stress. It’s hallucinations. Rachel seeks group therapy, but she’s too weird, even for them. But she’s not too weird for William (Adam Tomlinson), who knows exactly what she’s going through and is even weirder than her. What is the shadow man? Is he the manifestations of a confused and troubled woman? Or is he an extra-dimensional cattle rustler looking to fatten up and eat human souls?
First off, let’s...

Today being international jazz day, there will be much celebrating of the greatness of its history. I’ve done that in the past; it is a great history. But it is not all back in historical times; jazz lives, and evolves, and continues to be great. Yet how many lists of the greatest jazz albums include anything from the current century?
That they do not is no indictment of them; only sixteen percent of the years when recorded jazz has existed (not counting the present year yet) are in the twenty-first century, after all, and some prefer to bestow the label of greatness after more perspective has been achieved than sixteen (or fewer, for newer releases) years.
Nonetheless, if people are to respect jazz as a living art form, a look back at the best of its more recent releases seems worthwhile. Here’s one man’s “baker’s dozen...

Shadows of Evil is the name, and Call of Duty: Black Ops III is the game. As promised, developer Treyarch has lifted the veil on its brand new version of the series’ fan-favorite Zombies Mode, which will take the undead action back to where it all began: the 1940s.
In keeping with the tradition of the more recent installments, the co-operative multiplayer mode will also feature a star-studded cast that includes Jeff Goldbum, Heather Graham, Neil McDonoguh, Ron Perlman and Robert Picardo as a mysterious character known as The Shadow Man. All of these larger-than-life characters will play as archetypes associated with the time period, too, including the The Magician, The Femme-Fatale, The Cop and The Boxer. We’ll let you put a face to a name in the bombastic reveal trailer above. Here’s a picture from the game’s official Twitter feed:

Only a few days out from the release of his new “definitive collection” box set, David Bowie has released a suitably noirish new music video for “Sue (Or In A Season Of Crime)”. Directed by Tom Hingston and photographer Jimmy King, the video features footage of Bowie and the Maria Schneider Orchestra recording the track in a studio, superimposed atop shots of a dark, smoke-filled city. “Sue” and Bowie’s recently released demo “Tis a Pity She Was a Whore” will be released both as a digital single and a 10-inch vinyl, first in the U.K. on November 17th, then as a “Black Friday” in the U.S. on November 28th. The video was made to promote “Nothing Has Changed,” a new retrospective box that presents songs from throughout Bowie’s career in reverse chronological order. Watch the video below.

Only a few days out from the release of his new "definitive collection" box set, David Bowie takes you out to an alley and laments your death. The Thin White Duke has released the new music video for "Sue (Or In A Season Of Crime)" that's black and white and film noir all over. Serving more as a lyric video than a narrative, the clip is directed by Tom Hingston (who leads a British creative agency) and photographer Jimmy King. It subtly lets you focus on the small story Bowie's telling of Sue, and the humming contributions of the Maria Schneider Orchestra and Grammy Award-nominated saxophone honcho Donnie McCaslin. "Sue" and Bowie's recently released (and dizzyingly titled) demo "Tis a Pity She Was a Whore" were released in promoting "Nothing Has Changed," a new retrospective box set from Bowie and Columbia/Legacy. It comes in a variety of formats --...

Australian publication Ninemsn – a joint venture between Microsoft and Aussie entertainment company Nine – don’t cover video games. They do movies and music, but that’s about as close as they get. So it’s understandable that they were rather mystified when they received a black box delivered to their office, complete with Pin number and instructions to ‘check your voicemail’.
Only Ninemsn don’t use voicemail. And when one of the staff attempted to enter the Pin code, the box began to beep. So far, so bomb. It probably didn’t help that the reporter who received the package had been prank-called the night before, and a cursory check around other publications showed that no one else had received such a delivery.
Long story short, an explosives squad was dispatched and the building was evacuated. Deep in the basement, officers carefully dismantled the box to discover its contents: a baseball cap,...

So connections are made and Mulder is brought in to meet the man. You can see the problem already…we know it’s not going to work out because obviously David Duchovny is not going to show up. I have already discussed seven new releases and one compilation in my article on the Jazz Artist of the Year, Matthew Shipp. Here are my other favorite new albums from the jazz world in 2013. Most surprising for me is the number of vocal albums, because I'm very particular about jazz singers and dislike most of them. So coming from me, the praise for the jazz singers listed here is really saying something.
1. Andy Bey: The World According to Andy Bey (High Note)
Andy Bey is my favorite living jazz singer, and he's not recorded nearly as often as his talents deserve. Now 74 years old, he has only recorded 11 albums in the course of a 50-year career (one a concert album I've never actually seen). In comparison, Kurt Elling, 46 and active for 18 years, has already made 10. It had been six years since Bey's previous album, and he's been living HIV-positive since 1994, so I was worried.

Hey, it's only $5.99 for a chance to see a weird point where a video game company owned a comic company.
Back in the early 90's, Valiant Comics created the supernatural hero "Shadowman," defender of New Orleans. However, this is "Shadow Man," Michael LeRoi, an amnesiac assassin who becomes the successor to the previous bearer of the Shadow Mask, and dropped into a bunch of half-dead, monstrous goings-on.
The revamped character launched as part of the second wave of Valiant titles, around the time they were bought out by Acclaim and became Acclaim Comics, and "Shadow Man" the game was released around that time for Windows, the Dreamcast, N64, and PSOne.
Acclaim, who was known for making quality titles alongside questionable tie-ins, was also responsible for the beloved Fps "Turok: Dinosaur Hunter" back in 1997 for the N64 and the categorically terrible "Iron Man and X-o Manowar in Heavy Metal" in 1996.

The Best of Korean Cinema is a running series of articles that comes out every two weeks, in which I take a look at the best 21st century Korea has to offer, cinematically speaking, whether that means big names like Park Chan Wook and Kim Jee Woon or unknown curios that deserve the coverage. This is the first director-themed entry; the director in question is Joon H0-Bong, whose first two theatrically released features are tackled.

Barking Dogs Never Bite

Written by Joon-ho Bong and Ji-ho Song

Director Bong’s debut is a strange film, and an ambitious one at that. The initial set up sees an out of work part-time college lecturer, Ko Yun-Ju (Lee Sung-Jae) annoyed by the barking of a nearby dog. He elects radical action, in which he decides to kill the dog, choosing to leave it abandoned and locked...

On the latest episode of "Haunted Highway" (Tue., 10 p.m. Et on Syfy) Jack Osbourne and Dana Workman were out in the Santa Ana mountains in Southern California.
The pair were on the trial of the rumored paranormal entity known as The Black Star Shadow Man.
After nightfall the team set up cameras around a tree and Dana acted as Shadow Man bait. When they examined the footage, there did seem to be a shadow moving across all the cameras.
Dana was convinced they had gathered proof that the Shadow Man existed. But Jack, however, was skeptical. "It's not proof that there's a shadow person," he argued. "It just proves that there's a shadow."

Chicago – Vern started his career as one of those snarky critics who wrote in to Harry Knowles’ landmark and influential movie website Ain’t It Cool News. He became a regular writer for the site and his work there turned him into a very unorthodox author. His first book was a fantastic examination of, believe it or not, the career of Steven Seagal. Newly updated with a dozen new chapters about the recent adventures of his subject matter (the first printing was in 2008), “Seagalogy: A Study of the Ass-Kicking Films of Steven Seagal” is a funny, clever read for fans of the unusual action star and those who have never seen one of his movies. Vern’s movie-loving, smart, enjoyable writing makes this a more entertaining experience than Seagal himself has ever produced.
Don’t worry. This is not tongue-in-cheek nonsense. To say that Vern takes his subject matter seriously would be a Massive understatement.

The drought is nearly over. A couple weeks back, John Mayer teased fans with a 60-second snippet of his forthcoming single, "Shadow Man," his first piece of new music since undergoing surgery last fall. And now we get our second gift from the Grammy winner: a (finally!) release date for his album, Born and Raised. It's a Leap Day miracle! So when do we get to hear the rest of his single? And when oh when is the album due out? Pencil both in under "soon." Columbia Records today confirmed that the 12-track Born and Raised will be released on May 22 and that the first single from the album is heading to a radio near you on March 6. And they're pulling out...

Disney's John Carter gets released in 16 days. If tracking numbers are to believed, John Carter may be in some serious trouble at the box office. Much of that trouble can be blamed on the bad marketing campaign. As you've probably heard before, hindsight does not require corrective lenses or Lasik surgery, or whatever, but, while sixteen days isn't a ton of time, it just may be enough to salvage opening weekend. Two points that I should make: (A) Yes, I've seen John Carter, but this piece is not a breakdown of the merits of the film itself (we'll save that for another day) and (B) I do not possess a marketing degree. So, if your response is going to be, "Well, what do you know about marketing?" my answer will be, "Other than getting a B- in Marketing 101 at a Big 12 state school, not a lot." But I do have...

The group of songs to which he's referring will be on his next album, Born and Raised. There's no...

More so than any other medium, video games are often the subject of some of the most controversial and shocking advertising campaigns. Whether it’s simply the fact that video games are seen as an edgy form of entertainment, or simply the fact that some adverts are tailored to fit games which are violent or controversial in the first place, a brand new controversy surrounding a video game advert will always be just around the corner.
While it can be easily argued that there’s no such thing as bad publicity – especially with many of the games on this list being huge successes – sometimes an advertising campaign or publicity stunt will step over the line of taste and decency, or sometimes, right into sheer stupidity. Bill Oberst Jr. is the definition of “the horror actor”, the working actor doesn’t prefer anything outside of the horror genre and wouldn’t have it any other way. Oberst has some cool projects in the works including Vivid and Legend of the Red Reaper, he shares some stories about working on True Blood and MTV’s upcoming horror series Death Valley. The actor keeps busy for sure! Check out my latest Versus with Bill Oberst Jr. to learn more about this hard working cool actor.
Brian S- First off you've really been cranking out film projects since 2007. How'd you get into acting?
Bill Oberst Jr.- I was a bizarre-looking kid who loved monsters and the other kids made fun of me. I learned a useful equation: "If You Entertain People, They Will Not Hit You." So my whole career has pretty much been about trying to get people not to hit me.

And for those that do remember Super Deluxe, you might recall the site was home to an irreverent faux talk show hosted by Brody Stevens, an La-based comic with a strong nose who takes orders from an all-powerful Shadow Man, who promises the comedian Hollywood fame and fortune in return for completing a few simple tasks. Comedy Death Ray’s Brody Steven’s Interview Challenge is like Rosemary’s Baby except with celebrity interviews instead of a wife with antichrist. If that simile makes sense to you, or you recollect any of the above, you’ll be happy to hear Stevens may appear in another series on a different medium. Nellie Andreeva at Deadline reports Zach Galifianakis recently expanded his relationship with HBO. The Between Two Ferns...

We’ve seen a few different musicians take their turn as directors in the horror genre including Rob Zombie and Dee Snider. Well, it’s time to make room for a relative newcomer to our beloved genre - Gabriel Cowan. Cowan, who enjoyed a successful career as a musician, is now making his mark in the industry with his recently released body horror flick, Growth.
In its third week of release, Growth is ranked #2 on the iTunes horror genre chart amidst solid films like The Crazies, Daybreakers and Let the Right One In.
Even though Cowan touts himself an indie kind of guy, that doesn’t mean he hasn’t enjoyed a slew of success in the entertainment industry before becoming a filmmaker. In high school his band Comfort Station was featured on MTV as one of Los Angeles' fastest up-and-coming bands, and at the age of 18 Cowan was hired...

Two years ago, 10-year-old Trey Loney took an interest in acting. After dabbling in theater, background work, and acting classes from his home base of Encinitas, Calif., the youngster was ready to audition for his first speaking role in a film: a three-minute short called "Shadow Man," set in a 1930s migrant camp in California."He decided, 'Mommy, I want to do some more acting parts in Hollywood when I go up there,' so I said okay," recalls his mother, Kelly, who signed him up for a Back Stage account last October. "He's the only one of my kids acting. The other ones are into totally different things, but my great-grandparents were in vaudeville and my whole side of the family is in some kind of performing arts. It's very natural for him. He is very melodramatic."Producer-director Sara Caldwell was looking for a child who could fit the...

Mega Man Bosses: Behind the Metal - Where Are They Now?
Mega Man bosses never really die, they just lie around for a while until Dr. Wily fixes them back up again.
