Lifetime network movies have never promised quality — or even competent — filmmaking, and that's fine. Who cares? They're usually incredibly entertaining. (Do yourself a favor and watch "Cyber Seduction: His Secret Life" starring Jeremy Sumpter aka J.D. McCoy from "Friday Night Lights." It's about addiction to internet porn, and it's amazing.) But the latest effort from the channel for your mom has some actual talent behind it.
"The Anne Nicole Story" may look like your typical Lifetime fare, but this doomed celebrity biopic is helmed by Mary Harron, who directed Christian Bale in his career-best performance in "American Psycho."
The trailer is surprisingly effective and promises as sad of a story as you'd expect from a retelling of the model's tragic, drugged-out life.
"The Anna Nicole Story" also stars Cary Elwes, Adam Goldberg, Martin Landau and Virginia Madsen and debuts on Lifetime on June 29 and plays every Sunday afternoon until the end of eternity.

I have to say that I’m pretty disappointed in this attempt to camp up the romance of His Royal Highness Prince William Whatever and Kate Middleton, daughter of unbelievably gauche New Money. It’s like they barely even tried. If you’re gonna do a WB-esque royal-wedding cash-in movie, you have to give it a fair shot. There isn’t even a song-and-dance number -- and no, Wills’ public serenading of Kate in a pub doesn’t count. Where is the dream sequence? I fully expected to see Kate go all Buffy on some shuffling hoards of zombie paparazzi. Only in fantasy, you realize. Not for real. But it’s nowhere to be found in William & Kate. How mysterious. Has American cable network Lifetime no sense of pride? Where is the acknowledgement of the vast and honorable history of a network that pull out all the stops to bring...

When "Mad Men" star Jon Hamm and "Winter's Bone" actress Jennifer Lawrence took the stage at the Critics Choice Awards to announce the winner of the best TV movie... they did a pretty fantastic job making fun of TV movies.
Hamm and Lawrence named off a series of absurd film titles, that Hamm admits he's caught while drinking at 2:00 a.m.
But what many viewers may not have realized is that nearly all of the movies they mentioned are real. And -- surprise, surprise -- they're all Lifetime Originals:
"My Stepson, My Lover": Real
The story of a nurse stuck in unhappy marriage, "Msml" (as the cool kids call it) includes, as the tag line promises, "love, murder and deceit." If you watch the trailer, you'll learn that it also has shirtless horseback-riding, '90s hair and "Lost" star Terry O'Quinn.
"Cyber Seduction 4": Real-esque
Sadly, Lifetime's 2005 original...
