There has always been an understated rivalry between the mediums of movies and television. Many years ago it was even thought as being somewhat of a drastic career letdown if actors/actresses from film decided to depart for the landscape of television. The truth is that for some performers that had stalled or uneventful momentum in motion pictures that the concept of “slumming it” in television actually saved their show business profession. Hence, the boob tube made them relevant whereas the big screen had unceremoniously passed them by.
However, there is also a mutual respect that cinema and television share that go hand in hand when shaping our appreciation for entertainment on both the big and small screen. When movies depict the aspects of the TV world giving a sociological, psychological or emotional perspective then it is not so uncool to be a proud couch potato after all, right? Let...

In the week that was Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes, fans of the franchise were able to get their fill of all things ape with the global premiere in San Francisco, a Live Google+ Hangout chat which included the film’s cast and director, a new clip and featurette, and Andy Serkis improvising a Gollum/Caesar conversation during a visit to Conan O’Brien.
The early and overwhelmingly positive reviews for the film came in Saturday morning:
Guy Lodge (Variety) – “‘Cloverfield’ director Matt Reeves helms a bleak but spectacular sequel to the 2011 man-vs.-monkey hit.”
Steve Weintraub (Collider) – “Reeves has hit a massive home-run with this film and I truly hope audiences and critics embrace this special movie.”
Drew McWeeny (HitFix) – “Heartbreaking and harrowing, “Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes” is as good as big-budget science-fiction gets, technically dazzling and emotionally demanding.”
Todd McCarthy (THR) – “There is...

The Holy Land is Dope; Wajeman’s Effective Family Drama is Surprisingly Subtle
Titled with a Hebrew term for Jewish immigration to Israel from the diaspora, Aliyah traces the uninspiring procedure for an assisted return to the Holy Land, as Alex (Pio Marmaï) prepares to join his restaurateur cousin (David Geselson) in Tel Aviv and leave behind his oppressive lot in Paris. Co-written alongside Gaëlle Macé, Elie Wajeman’s directorial debut is an intimate and unhurried wandering through the circumstantial pressures that have cornered a 27-year-old low-grade drug dealer.
The nature of conversation surrounding his plans requires that Alex confess to not already “knowing Israel”, as he only visited once as a child. It is repeatedly assumed that he is familiar with the land, language and even the holidays, erecting a strict framework for Jewish identity that is uniquely transcended. Alex is nonreligious and entirely aware of the devastating political turmoil,...

Promised Land is the new contemporary drama directed by Van Sant (Good Will Hunting, Milk). With the town having been hit hard by the economic decline of recent years, the two outsiders see the local citizens as likely to accept their company’s offer, for drilling rights to their properties, as much-needed relief. What seems like an easy job for the duo becomes complicated by the...

Don't get jealous, Ben Affleck. E! News caught up with Promise Land costars Matt Damon and John Krasinski, and we couldn't help but bring up the fact that Damon was making a hard effort to catch Oceans costar Brad Pitt during his Killing Them Softly junket nearby. It was really a sweet, bromantic moment. "He's got six kids, I've got four. It's very rare that we have any time to actually bump into each other and say hello," Damon told us, "so when you're that close, it's kind of a rule that you gotta run in and plant a hug on somebody." Right?! We said it was sweet. Krasinski, on the other hand, only had business in...
