Tom Kenny said at a convention that when he got a call to do the project, he'd never heard of the recording location. He drove around LA and wound up in a sketchy neighborhood. The "recording studio" turned out to be a rundown apartment building.
A sequel, titled "Elf Bowling 2: The Great Pumpkin Heist" was to be released fall 2007. It was canceled.
Animation and visual effects were outsourced to South Korea.
Even though the movie was aimed at young children, it was rated '12' in the UK for "one use of moderate language."
The film received generally negative reviews from critics and audiences.
