Ivan gives the soundtrack from Woody Allen's Blue Jasmine a listen, and provides a rundown of the filmmaker's 10 best music moments...
You can tell immediately when you're watching a Woody Allen movie. Not just from the opening credits (Windsor Light Condensed on black title cards) but from the music. Woody loves the stuff - he'd rather play clarinet with his band than go to the Oscars. He loves it so much that he joins the list of directors such as Quentin Tarantino and Martin Scorsese who are known for using popular, pre-existing music in their soundtracks. The man has directed an astonishing 43 films in his career. Just seven of those have original scores.
Allen started his career with none other than Marvin Hamlisch, who would go on to score The Spy Who Loved Me. Working on Bananas after Take The Money And Run,...

This Friday the 13th, we are proud to bring you a new column called The Thirteen! The Thirteen will be a Top 13 list of a topic that we choose and the column will run every 13th of the month! The Thirteen is a collaborative column where we all decide on entries that fit said topic.
The topic this month: regular songs that have now taken on a haunting feel thanks to a film that used it in a unorthodox way. Now, every time we hear the song, we not only think of the film it was featured in but also get the heebie jeebies from it as well. It was inspired by Tiny Tim’s song Tiptoe Through the Tulips which was used in the film Insidious. With Insidious: Chapter 2 in theaters now, what better way to introduce this topic.

If Mila Kunis agrees to go to Hollins University's spring Cotillion dance with Kirsten Bledsoe, the senior student promises they'll have a wonderful evening featuring some tasty Blue Moon beer.
Bledsoe created a video to ask Kunis to the spring dance at Hollins, which originally got its start as a women-only event in the 1890s. This year's Cotillion will take place on April 26 in Roanoke, Va.
In the video, Bledsoe props herself up on a large rock, which she spray-painted with the question, "Mila, Cotillion?" She then struggles to crack open a bottle of Blue Moon. (She later clarified in the YouTube description that she realized they're actually twist-off.)
"It's my senior year in college, it's my last school dance, so I figured I'd ask someone who's never been to a school dance with a willing date before," Bledsoe says in the video. "So just let me know, and I'll bring the Blue Moon,...

On Sunday night, newly minted megastar Jennifer Lawrence welcomed a brand-new inductee into the most-adored-actress-ever club: Mila Kunis, who unexpectedly veered off script in an interview with Chris Stark, a shy first-time interviewer from BBC radio. Instead of delivering rote answers to rote softballs with the obligatory strained smile of the Hollywood automaton, Kunis encouraged Stark to ditch the usual questions and discuss her favorite beer (Blue Moon), his favorite pub drink (the Lad Bomb, a shot of Jager in a double-vodka Red Bull), and their ideal afternoon together (hitting the pub after a soccer match, of course). Kunis's swagger, her playful tone, and her comic timing (insulting Stark's favorite drink, then ripping through her Oz-related sound bites so they could get back to more witty banter) caused the interview to immediately go viral. Celebrity journalists, bloggers, and Twitterati alike took a break from unpacking their most glowing adjectives over...

BBC Radio 1's Chris Stark was "petrified" to interview Mila Kunis about her new movie, Oz the Great and Powerful. So he didn't. Not really, at least. Instead, the two talked about Stark's awesomely named friends (Sir Dosser, The Convict, Chango the Beast), booze (she likes Blue Moon, he prefers Jäger shots dropped into double vodka and Red Bull) and Baywatch. Oh yeah, and he asks her out three times. But the most impressive part might be when a publicist chimes in that they really should be discussing the film and Mila rapid-fire rattles off every par-for-the-course interview answer without hesitation. Bonus: Watch an arguably even more adorable Stark analyze his...

Mila Kunis is the queen of all press junkets from here on out. And that much is clear after watching a recent interview the actress did with on-camera reporter Chris Stark for BBC Radio 1 during an Oz the Great and Powerful junket. The interview went from nervous talk to talking about Stark's local bar, a wedding invitation, and even a chicken dinner. But what makes the chat is when Kunis screams about Stark not knowing what her favorite drink is (Blue Moon) and when Kunis just repeats what she's been saying to other reporters throughout the entire junket. Michelle Williams, great. Wish I worked with her more. James Franco, love. Etc. Etc.
Check out the video of Kunis in all her glory below:

Mila Kunis is used to doing countless interviews while in the midst of a promotional tour for an upcoming movie. But we're pretty sure she was Not expecting this.
The 29-year-old sat down with British superfan Chris Stark of the Scott Mills radio show to discuss her new flick "Oz: The Great and Powerful," but instead, the pair talked about lad bombs, Watford football matches, chicken dishes and "Baywatch."
What's a lad bomb? Well, according to 25-year-old Stark -- whose favorite pastime is heading to the pub with his "boys" Sir Dowser, The Convict and Django the Beast -- a lad bomb is like a Jaeger bomb, except you do a shot of Jaeger into a double vodka Red Bull.
"Oh my God, that sounds like the worst drink ever," Kunis said as the producers behind the scenes were trying to get Stark to "move on." "That's disgusting!" Kunis added.

Ah, the perils of high expectations! Anyone who’s ever giggled at a gif of Jennifer Lawrence joking around predicted that the two-time Oscar nominee would tear up SNL last night. Unfortunately, the show itself didn’t quite live up to those lofty hopes. Lawrence herself got better and better as the episode progressed, shedding the nervousness that seemed to plague her during her opening monologue. But the material she was given didn’t follow the same arc — especially the weak sketches that followed a curiously shortened Weekend Update.

Throughout the month of October, Editor-in-Chief and resident Horror expert Ricky D, will be posting a list of his favorite Horror films of all time. The list will be posted in six parts. Click here to see every entry.
As with all lists, this is personal and nobody will agree with every choice – and if you do, that would be incredibly disturbing. It was almost impossible for me to rank them in order, but I tried and eventually gave up.
****
50: Thundercrack!
Directed by Curt McDowell
Written by George Kuchar
1975, USA
Thunderstruck! is by far the most obscure film you will find on this list. It is without a doubt one of the true landmarks of Underground cinema. With a screenplay by veteran underground film maker George Kuchar (story and characters by Mark Ellinger) and directed Curt McDowell (than student of Kuchar),
Thundercrack! is a work of a crazed genius.

Now that she’s a mom, Alicia Keys knows that books, music and art have the makings of cool kids’ play — especially in the digital world. That’s why the singer and songwriter launched a new animated children’s app, The Journals of Mama Mae and LeeLee ($4) for the iPad, iPhone and iTouch.
“Right around the time I had Egypt, I realized I wanted to get into the children’s space. I felt like it would be such an interesting thing to have music span different cultures and sounds,” Keys tells People.

Manchester City face an acid test as to how far they have progressed as a club since the takeover of Sheikh Mansour tonight.
The “noisy neighbours” of Manchester find themselves competing against one of the greatest sides in world football at one of the finest stadiums in the land as City take on the might of Spanish Champions Real Madrid.
It isn’t the first time they have been in this competition, of course. Last year they found themselves in what was then dubbed “the Group of Death”, containing Bayern Munich, Villa Real and Napoli, and were dumped out of the competition and into the Europa League.
Since then though they have won the Premier League and with that added a wealth of experience under their belts. There is now a sense of purpose for City – going into the Champions League as England’s flagship team shows that they have...

La la la la la la, la la la la la. Those little blue critters that turned out to be a surprise phenomenon in the 1980s make their way to the big screen and now to, ironically, Blu-ray. It.s a fun time, especially for the kids, but some parts left me grouchy. The Smurfs are little blue creatures (three apples tall) that live in a magical forest and are pursued by the wizard Gargamel (Hank Azaria) and his cat Azrael (voiced by Frank Welker). The bumbling Gargamel wants to drain the Smurfs. essence and make his magic more powerful. However, there is some power on the rise as Smurfs are preparing for the magical Blue Moon festival.

Choosing my favourite horror films of all time is like choosing between my children – not that I have children, but if I did, I am sure I would categorize them quite like my DVD collection. As with all lists, this is personal and nobody will agree with every choice – and if you do, that would be incredibly disturbing. Also, it was almost impossible for me to rank them in order, but I tried. I based my list taking into consideration three points:
1- Technical accomplishments / artistry and their influence on the genre.
2- How many times I’ve revisited the films and how easily it makes for a repeated viewings.
3- Its story, atmosphere and how much it affected me when I first watched them.
Finally, there are many great films such as The Witchfinder General, The Wickerman and even Hour Of The Wolf that won’t appear here. I...

What's your favorite scary movie?
No, we're not trying to reenact the gory opening of "Scream" -- in preparation for Halloween, the Zap2it team is compiling a list of the scariest, funniest, weirdest horror films we hold near and dear. Did all that head-spinning in "The Exorcist" freak you out as a child? What about Jack Nicholson's terrifying turn in "The Shining"? Or perhaps you prefer the kitschy fun of a retro B-movie?
Either way, you'll want to check out Zap2it's list of our favorite scary movies, then leave your own suggestions in the comments. Together, we'll create the perfect Halloweekend movie marathon playlist!

42 – Nosferatu: The First Vampire
Directed by F.W. Murnau
1922 – Germany
The earliest surviving film based on Dracula is Nosferatu, an unauthorized adaptation of Bram Stoker’s novel. One of the first vampire movies, it is perhaps on one of the best vampire movies ever made. Generally creepy from beginning to the last frame.
41- Spirits Of The Dead (Histoires extraordinaires)
Directed by
Federico Fellini (segment Toby Dammit)
Louis Malle (segment William Wilson)
Roger Vadim (segment Metzengerstein)
1968 – France
First thing to notice is the three directors: Federico Fellini, Louis Malle and Roger Vadim. Second you need to take notice in the cast which includes Brigitte Bardot, Jane Fonda, Peter Fonda, Alain Delon, Terence Stamp, Salvo Randone, James Robertson Justice, Françoise Prévost and Marlène Alexandre. Spirits Of The Dead is an adaptation of three Edgar Allan Poe stories that amount to one mixed bad, but with one incredible segment that needs to be seen.

As another Halloween screams upon us, Movie Fanatic thought we’d give you 10 films that will firmly place audiences in the Happy Halloween mood. From classics to modern instant classics, this is merely a list of films to strike up the fear and prepare all for the hallowed haunted-ness of Halloween.
10. 28 Days Later
The zombie movie genre got a shot in the arm with this brilliantly executed and visually stunning masterwork. 28 Days Later is a must for revisiting on any Halloween, or for that matter, any time of the year!
9. Paranormal Activity 3
The film is truly three times the scare and is worth every cent witnessing it in the theaters. The rest of our top 10 are great home video visits, but when it comes to cinematic scariness, nothing beats sitting in the dark, not knowing what’s around the film’s next corner and Paranormal Activity 3 achieves that in spades.

In the excitement and the euphoria of Manchester City’s 6-1 victory against their bitter rivals, there was one man on the blue half of Manchester who watched on and won’t have felt the same joy and elation as his colleagues. His name, Carlos Tevez!
Tevez was once the toast of Old Trafford, he helped his united team lift a League and Champions League double in 2008 only to turn his back on the Red Devils and join Manchester City’s Blue Moon revolution. There was no going back for Tevez after this; the United fans developed a deep hatred for the Argentinean international as he signed for City which only aroused the rivalry between both fans of Manchester.
The City faithful took to Tevez immediately, they adored him as a hero and the more goals he scored the louder they sang his name. For all the millions city spent over the past 3 years however,...

The City faithful took to Tevez immediately, they adored him as a hero and the more goals he scored the louder they sang his name. For all the millions city spent over the past 3 years however,...

There have been many portrayals of werewolves and other shapeshifting man/woman-beasts, in the media of film, but I can’t say there has been many memorable ones. With The Wolf Man (1941) Lon Chaney Jr. transformed into a werewolf at the full moon, and created one of the three most famous horror icons of the modern day. Werewolf fiction as since been an exceptionally diverse genre with ancient folkloric roots and manifold modern re-interpretations – from high shcool basketball players to American tourists hiking through the UK. Here is the list of my personal favourites.
#13- El aullido del diablo/ Howl of the Devil (1987)
Directed by: Paul Naschy
Paul Naschy, also known as Jacinto Molina Alvarez, was a Spanish movie actor, screenwriter, and director working primarily in horror films. His portrayals of numerous classic horror figures—the wolfman, the hunchback, Count Dracula, the mummy—have earned him recognition as the Spanish Lon Chaney.

Chicago – There is nothing wrong with “The Smurfs” that a thousand volts of electricity couldn’t cure. It is well made, looks good in the optional 3-D and has a competent cast trying their hardest. What it lacks is a spark, either of nostalgia or a fresh update, as it meanders with the seen-it-all-before template.
Rating: 2.5/5.0
In a plot lifted directly from Disney’s “Enchanted,” The Smurfs are thrust into New York City and our world, with the same machinations and sidekick help as the Disney princess had when she came to NYC. The silly comedy, plus the good and bad nature of the morality, makes it easy for younger kids to follow, but it lacked the nostalgia candy of the 1980s and ’90s cartoon that their parents most likely desired. And of course, the Smurfs are voiced by celebrities, but for once it’s not too distracting.

They’re blue. They’re three apples high. And admit it, you probably have a few of the tiny plastic paeans to their awesomeness tucked away in boxes somewhere in your parent’s house. Probably in your old room, which is now the “yoga studio”. Yep, you guessed it; la la la la-la la, la la la-la la, The Smurfs are baaaack. And this time they’re goin’ live, in NYC. Well, kinda live. Live-ish? No matter how you Smurf it, it’s a whole lot of fun.
If you’re thinking to yourself that there’s no Smurfing way in Smurf that you’d see this Smurfin’ film? Two things: one, it’s an adorable film that re-works the little blue guys (and gal) much the same way The Brady Bunch Movie successfully brought that series into the present day. And two, there’s no need for that kind of language.

I think Grouchy says it best during goodbyes with his human counterparts in The Smurfs. “I hated it so much … less than expected.” He then caps it off with, “but I did hate it”, sentiments I assumed I’d share before sitting down at my screening and was surprised to find absent. It actually isn’t that bad—but I didn’t love it.
Director Raja Gosnell is no stranger to live action/animation hybrids having helmed two Scooby Doos and a Beverly Hills Chihuahua. His decision to take on such projects may be questionable, even as he laughs himself to the bank, but I guess there is something to the gimmick being in the hands of someone who appears to believe in it. Kids love seeing their beloved characters brought to life—although I will state the obvious on wondering how much anyone under the age of twenty knows about the Smurfs; hell,...

HollywoodNews.com: Heidi Klum may still have an incredible body, but that doesn’t mean she deprives herself of anything.
Klum recently revealed that she still enjoys the occasional fast food treat and more, states RadarOnline.com. Klum can apparently down a classic McDonald’s Big Mac, french fries and a large Coca-Cola and still maintain her figure.
She also revealed that she doesn’t go light on the cocktails either as she prefers Blue Moon Beer.
What do you think of her body?

We hope you enjoy these three reviews from Zoners who were in the audience for the recent performance of Harold Pinter’s “Old Times”, featuring Stephen Colbert and his wife Evelyn McGee-Colbert, at the benefit for the Luna Stage theater.
From Zoner Sw:
On January 9, 2011, I was very fortunate to have attended Stephen Colbert’s performance as the character “Deeley” in a benefit staged reading of Harold Pinter’s “Old Times” at the Luna Stage in West Orange, NJ. His wife, Evelyn McGee portrayed Deeley’s wife in the play, “Kate,” and the renowned, Tony Award winning actress Maryann Plunkett played Kate’s friend, “Anna,” who comes to visit. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the play, it is quite enigmatic and much has been written about its hidden meanings. It is considered one of Harold Pinter’s “memory” plays; and as such, the overall theme is...

An American Werewolf in London (John Landis, 1981)
There's something about this movie that cast a kind of spell on me, and it's really influenced a lot of my work. When it first came out in 1981, I was six. There was an issue of Starburst, a now-defunct British sci-fi magazine, that had a picture on the cover of the lead actor, David Naughton, sitting in the cinema set with all the zombies. It was the bloodiest picture I'd ever seen. I was so horrified and hypnotised and I knew I had to see that movie!
As a six-year-old I wanted to see the monsters, and then as a 14-year-old, when I finally saw it all the way through, it just blew my mind with how detailed it was and what an amazingly fun world had been created. It made me think: I want to make a film like that, a movie...

Ah, there's nothing like the full blue moon in November to bring out the werewolves inside us all.
In our current day, the term "blue moon" is most often defined as the second full moon occurring within a single month of time. This happens usually a once every few years. In older times it was known as the third full moon in a season that has a total of four full moons instead of three.
Blue moon was known in a much more literal way throughout history, says folklorist Philip Hiscock in the pages of Sky & Telescope. Once upon a time, he says, it denoted a phenomenon even rarer than an extra full moon, one that has occurred perhaps only once or twice in recorded history: the face of moon literally appearing to turn blue in color.

Mel Torme aside, the soundtrack for "Jack Goes Boating" is heavy with highly revered indie rock acts like Grizzly Bear and Fleet Foxes and Cat Power. King of the A/V Geeks, Skip Elsheimer, is our hero. He’s your hero too, maybe you don’t know it yet, but he is. Mystery Train Directed by: Jim Jarmusch Written by: Jim Jarmusch Starring: Masatoshi Nagase, Youki Kudoh, Screamin' Jay Hawkins, Joe Strummer, Steve Buscemi, Tom Noonan Everybody has their list of important or great films that for one reason or another they've yet to see. Jim Jarmusch's triptych anthology Mystery Train had eluded me all of these years, but thanks to a fancy Criterion blu ray release, I finally had the chance to check it out. Not unlike Jarmusch's other films, it's a cool, clever and funny piece of classic indie filmmaking that sheds an outsider's light on the cultural significance of Memphis and all of the unusual characters who live there. The film is broken into three separate stories. The first, titled 'Far From Yokohama', finds a young Japanese couple stepping off a train in Memphis with only a red suitcase between them. I had read somewhere that Jarmusch thought...
