Young David Meinke plays the son of a local minister who is hosting the son of a missionary from Africa. The tales of faraway places with strange sounding names excite a lot of people who are not necessarily religious. But in this young man's mind he'd like to be out there converting the heathen.
In a dream it comes to him that there's a lot of work right at the home front where he can put his Christian zeal to good use. That unfortunately is all too true. We see the manifestation of that zeal in many things like the banning of gay marriage, the counter revolution against a woman's right to choose, and even in the Middle East where some very earnest and not so earnest Christians are seeing Iraq and Afghanistan as a mission field. Don't believe me, tune in the 700 Club some time.
One cardinal rule as far as Christian films are concerned. Everything else may be second rate, but they will ALWAYS cast attractive people in the film no matter how good or bad they are. David Meinke and Jim Custer who play Jeff and his guest Tim from Africa are no exception. They give adequate performances, the rest of the cast is negligible at best.
What concerns me with the message here is that young Jeff now fired up for doing stuff on the home front will go back to his High School and probably try to stop a Gay/Straight Alliance group from forming. Or he'll be out there at an abortion clinic, heckling some very troubled women all in the spirit of love. Or I can see him handing out Bible tracts at a Gay Pride Parade.
When you set your self up as THE one and only true religion, you will get people resenting that idea.
