Narco Sub is one of those projects that just floats in the depths of development for years while filmmakers come and go. Originally targeted for Tony Scott, it now appears to be surfacing with Game Of Thrones veteran Brian Kirk directing and Liam Neeson wanted for the lead. The thriller, which has a script by David Guggenheim, finds a disgraced American naval officer (Neeson, if he signs) forced to pilot a submarine loaded with cocaine past the Us Coast Guard’s watchful eye. And given what happened the last time Neeson was aboard a cinematic sub in K-19: The Widowmaker, does anyone expect this mission to go well?Kirk, whose only film-directing gig so far was indie drama Middletown, nevertheless has plenty of TV experience in addition to Thrones. He’s worked on the likes of Dexter, Great Expectations, Luther, and Boardwalk Empire. He’s taking over a project that,...

Given what’s been going on in her personal life recently, this is probably not the best time for Reese Witherspoon to be in talks to star in a film called Passengers. Yet in talks she is, looking to sign on to appear alongside Keanu Reeves in the sci-fi tale.Set years in the future on a long-range spaceship intended to seed another world with human beings, Passengers follows what happens when a computer glitch accidentally awakens one man (Reeves) from cryogenic sleep 90 years before everyone else.Faced with spending the rest of his life alone in a godless universe and possibly out of Shake ‘n’ Vac, our hero decides to wake a female companion (Witherspoon, if she makes a deal) to ensure the years are less agonizing. Bet she’s not going to be too pleased…Middletown and Game Of Thrones director Brian Kirk is aboard to direct, working...

The new adaptation of Robert Ludlum’s thriller novel The Osterman Weekend has been through the hands of one or two directors already, with Doug Liman and Robert Schwentke both attached at different times. Now it looks like Game Of Thrones director Brian Kirk is the next in line to take a crack.Kirk, who has also worked on the most recent stab at Great Expectations for the Beeb and other TV including Luther, Boardwalk Empire and HBO’s latest, Luck, has one film credit – Middletown – under his belt. He hit the radar last year when he was in the running to direct Thor 2, but ended up losing the gig to fellow Thrones man Alan Taylor. If he does handle Osterman, Kirk will bring a story full of paranoia to the screen. The plot finds a man named John Tanner about to enjoy his annual weekend getaway with friends.

Television director Brian Kirk is in talks to helm Marvel’s sequel to Thor. Kirk directed three of the 12 episodes of HBO’s “Game of Thrones,” plus an episode of the cable channel’s hit series “Boardwalk Empire,” and, Variety reports the experience with ensemble casts lead to his hiring.
This will mark Kirk’s first feature since 2006’s Middletown and his first shot at working for a major studio. He reportedly beat out a shortlist of directors that included Noam Murro (who booked the sword-and-sandal sequel 300: Battle for Artemisia instead), James McTeigue (Ninja Assassin), Drew Goddard (Cabin in the Woods), and Breck Eisner (The Crazies).
The original’s director, actor/director Kenneth Branagh, opted out of the sequel when Marvel and Disney announced a follow-up will hit theaters on July 26, 2013. Don Payne (Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer) is currently working on the story. Chris Hemsworth will...

Thor star Chris Hemsworth may be sad to see Kenneth Branagh won't be returning to direct Thor 2, but Marvel and Disney aren't offering much time to cry about it as Variety reports Irish helmer, Brian Kirk, is in talks to take over the sequel, which is already set for a July 26, 2013 release from a script by Don Payne (Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, My Super Ex-Girlfriend).
For the last four years Kirk has been strictly a television director, recently helming three episodes of HBO's "Game of Thrones", one episode of "Boardwalk Empire" and other shows including "Luther" and "Dexter". His only feature film to date is a little-seen 2006 feature called Middletown that starred Matthew Macfadyen and Daniel Mays. Thor 2 would obviously be a massive step up in terms of recognition, but he has clearly shown talent for handling name actors and large crews.

It late June it was first announced that Kenneth Branagh would not be returning to direct a sequel to Marvel Studio's Thor. In one sense it was surprising, as Branagh had repeatedly talked about his love of the character from when he was a child and seemed to have a lot of passion for it, but in another sense it was totally understandable as Branagh isn't exactly a "sequel" kind of guy. Since then, however, there has been plenty of curiosity as to who would be the person taking the helm on Thor 2 and now it seems the studio has found their man. Variety has learned that Brian Kirk has entered negotiations to serve at the helm of the superhero sequel. The news comes as a bit of a surprise, as the feature film will only be Kirk's second, the first being the Matthew Macfadyen-starring Middletown in 2006. Most...

Welcome to Trailer Watch, a new feature for the weekend, where we compile a bunch of indie and not so big name trailers for some fantastic movies. Originally this was tried out here on FusedFilm as a video series called The Tease, but that faded due to the lack scheduling and timing making this version much better to do. However this may reevolve into that series.
Many may not realize that movie trailers have now become extremely popular on the Internet. Of some 10-billion videos watched online annually, movie trailers rank #3, after news and user-created video (which sometimes features fan made trailers). So having a feature like this just makes sense.
Legacy - Teaser # 1
First up we have a trailer for Legacy, starring Idris Elba, who a lot more people will get to know soon in the upcoming film The Losers. Although The Wire fans already know him. The trailer...

Principal photography commences today on Hammer Films’ first foray into making an original feature-length horror film since 1976’s To the Devil a Daughter (Beyond the Rave doesn’t count as it was made for the internet), the British studio announced. The film is called The Wake Wood and goes in front of cameras in County Donegal, Ireland with Vertigo Films already eyeballing it for a 2009 release in the UK.
David Keating is directing The Wake Wood from a script he co-wrote with Brendan McCarthy, and the story goes a little something like this: Still grieving the death of nine-year-old Alice – their only child – at the jaws of a crazed dog, vet Patrick and pharmacist Louise relocate to the remote town of Wake Wood where they learn of a pagan ritual that will allow them three more days with Alice. The couple find the idea disturbing and exciting in equal measure,...
