The "Jackass" franchise is a wild ride that started with a late-night MTV series but has become a full-fledged force of nature in its own right, and a crucial part of that magnificent maelstrom is Steve-o, born Steven Glover. It's almost impossible to define the charismatic performer — he's one part circus clown, one part stuntman, one part comedian, and his unique brand of entertaining helps make this franchise what it is. He has done some disgusting and terrifying things in the name of making all of us laugh, and in his new unrated multimedia comedy special, "Steve-o's Bucket List," he's allegedly going even wilder than he did on "Jackass," which should really be something. But what about the "Jackass" franchise? Is there a film that he feels is the pinnacle, or do they just continue to improve upon the previous incarnation?

The Jackass series debuted on MTV in 2000, quickly becoming one of the most popular television shows. It followed the antics of a group of friends as they engaged in outrageous stunts, pranks, and dangerous physical challenges. The show cast included Johnny Knoxville, Bam Margera, Steve-o, Chris Pontius, Wee Man, Dave England, Preston Lacy, and Ryan Dunn.
Despite parental and political worries about the show’s potential impact on younger viewers, it quickly skyrocketed in popularity. After three seasons of wading through constant censorship notes from MTV, Knoxville and his pals decided to end their run; thus began, Jackass’ successful transition to the silver screen era.
The Jackass franchise spawned several movies that were released between 2002 and 2022, in the following order:

Ready to get kicked in the face by an annoyed donkey?
This is the question that many “Jackass” stars have faced over the years, first on the beloved MTV prank show and then in the series of increasingly ridiculous (and weirdly endearing) movies. The latest “Jackass” endeavor, “Jackass Forever,” is now upon us, full of oversized contraptions, precarious situations, and serious self-injury that makes you say “ouch” aloud even if you’re in a crowded cinema. The fourth theatrical film in the franchise is once again directed by “Jackass” co-creator Jeff Tremaine, just so you know that the quality hasn’t been diluted at all.
But where can you watch Johnny Knoxville and the boys give themselves concussions? Read below to find out!

‘Jackass Forever’ Struts $20M+ Opening, ‘Moonfall’ Plummets To Earth With $9M+ – Saturday Box Office
Saturday Update: Refresh for more analysis and top 10 chart A $10M movie based on a 22 year old reality TV series is decimating a $146M production based on a fatigued disaster movie genre this weekend. More to the point, Paramount’s Jackass Forever is rallying to a $20.7M No. 1 weekend win, well ahead of Lionsgate/Centropolis’ Roland Emmerich movie Moonfall which is plummeting to $9.1M.
Such disparities is what make the movie business, and box office, endlessly intriguing. One would think both of these movies would be prime for streaming, or the theatrical day-and-date model. ViacomCBS needs to trick out their own Paramount+ streaming service, while we already knew pre-pandemic that disaster movies about falling NYC edifices and eroding West Coast shorelines weren’t working pre-pandemic.

Anyone watching “Jackass Forever,” the fourth entry in a film franchise filled with painful stunts and pranks led by self-flagellating ringleader Johnny Knoxville, would assume that nothing is off the table. On the verge of turning 50, Knoxville hurled himself into a bullring and got knocked out by the animal, which led him to suffer a brain hemorrhage and broken ribs. In another scene, he steps on an oversized treadmill in full marching-band regalia, only to end up slammed into an adjacent building as blood dripped down his face. That time, it was cohort Steve-o who wound up unconscious. Their genitalia took a lot of hits, too, including the latest instance of their infamous “cup test.”
This is all a matter of public record, the centerpiece of the newest chapter in a pileup of gimmicks that stretch back 20 years. But Knoxville hesitates to specify the line he couldn’t cross on his most Paramount-funded excursion.

Johnny Knoxville has spent two decades getting smacked by bulls, blasted with riot gear and knocked out by Butterbean. So entering the world of WWE is nothing to him.
On Sunday, Knoxville will join the Royal Rumble, WWE’s annual showdown where 30 wrestlers compete for a spot in the main event of Wrestlemania. The 50-year-old “Jackass” star is only the second celeb to take part after Drew Carey entered — and then quickly exited — the match back in 2003.
When talking to TheWrap about the match and his new movie, “Jackass Forever,” Knoxville was filled with the trademark bravado that he’s always used to build anticipation for the inevitable, painful pratfalls of his stunts. Just before getting body checked by an All-Pro NFL player, he told him, “Don’t hit me with your purse,” and now he’s more than happy to trash the entire WWE roster.
“I’ve seen these so-called ‘superstars.

When Johnny Knoxville and his “Jackass” gang return to the big screen this fall in “Jackass 4,” it will mark over a decade since the release of the group’s latest film outing. That would be “Jackass 3D,” which opened in October 2010 and became a comedy blockbuster with $171 million at the worldwide box office. Knoxville spent the 10 years in between installments resistant to making a fourth “Jackass” movie but coming up with stunt ideas for another sequel anyway.
As reported in a new GQ cover story on Knoxville: “Ever since 2010’s ‘Jackass 3D’ wrapped, Knoxville had been quietly turning ideas over in his head, jotting down brief descriptions of stunt concepts and emailing himself the notes with ‘Jackass 4 idea’ in the subject line. Finally he felt himself getting the itch and asked his assistant to compile those ideas into a document.”
“It was thick,” Knoxville told GQ about the “Jackass 4” stunt ideas book.

Paramount is set to release “Jackass 4” in theaters this fall, and it’s going to be batshit crazy if a new video (via Uproxx) from cast member Steve-o is any indication of what’s to come. The “Jackass” veteran revealed: “I might have actually talked a doctor into dressing up as a clown so that he could put a four inch needle into my spine and inject me with a drug that would paralyze me from the waist down while I was sprinting and before all kinds of terrible shit happened to me.” Footage of the injection is shown in the video.
Whether or not Steve-o getting paralyzed makes it into the actual theatrical cut of “Jackass 4” remains to be seen, but it’s clearly one of the wildest decisions the stunt comedian has ever made. Steve-o also informed fans that he was in the early stages of...

2016-07-01T10:12:22-07:00New on Netflix for July: Old Franchises Rule the Month
The list of new TV series and movies coming to Netflix in July 2016 is dominated by movies that are not very new. Several classic movies franchises will come to the service in their entirety, including the original films and not just their sub-par sequels. The month's departures are newsworthy, too, as several high-profile films disappear from Netflix's catalog this month.
The parade of film franchises debuting on the service includes Lethal Weapon (four films), Back to the Future (three films) and Beverly Hills Cop (two films). Franchises that are offering sequels without the originals include Blade (Blade 2), Jackass (Jackass Number Two) and Death Race (Death Race 2 and Death Race 3: Inferno).
Among the films leaving Netflix in July are the entire original Star Trek franchise and the Stanley Kubrick films 2001: A Space Odyssey and A Clockwork Orange.

This month marks 15 years since Jackass introduced a feral group of fun-loving and foolhardy hooligans, hell-bent on destroying themselves (and some of their parents) for the pleasure of MTV viewers around the world. Ever since Jackass’ inception back in 2000, the crew have filmed more gags, skits and pranks than they actually have room for in the movies, which means a lot of footage never makes the final cut. For whatever reason, they were deemed not funny enough, not clever enough or just plain uninteresting. But to make use of this material and ‘give the fans what they want’, they started releasing the .5 movies, which are nothing more than glorified making of documentaries talking about the footage that was not good enough for the final product.
Last year saw Jackass depart from their usual stunt mentality to create their first movie-of-sorts with Jackass Presents Bad Grampa and, now following tradition, they’ve giving us Jackass Presents Bad Grampa .5 – and it’s exactly what you’d expect: a glorified making of that would be a special feature on any other DVD.

This half-term it's a different story for the sequel to Cloudy. The chief cinema attraction for families is DreamWorks Animation's Turbo, which released on October 18, with previews the weekend before. Sony evidently thought the competitive environment was less formidable this time around, mounting a bid to share the half-term...

Paramount Pictures' Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa started off the weekend strongly with $12.6 million as it heads to what could be over $32 million over the weekend from 3,336 theaters. The Jackass franchise Johnny Knoxville continues to show its strength yet again as the film grossed more on Friday than Jackass Number Two's $11.8 million, but not as much as Jackass 3-d's $22.04 million Friday pull in 2010. That film ended up with over $171.6 million worldwide with $117.2 million coming from domestic sales. In second, Warner Bros' Goliath Gravity carries on strongly as it marches towards the $200 million domestic cume with $6.16 million earned in its fourth weekend at play. The Sandra Bullock and George Clooney starrer written by father and son Alfonso and Jonas Cuaron, with dad directing, is a fraction away from $300 million worldwide with $299.8 million grossed thus far. Look for around $18 million over the weekend.

This weekend, as you search for a movie to watch, you can either go see Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa or stay home and pick one of approximately 14 billion options available to stream over a variety of services, be it Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, On Demand, or other sites. Every Friday, Vulture tries to make life easier by narrowing it down to a handful of heartily recommended options. This week, we feature the best installment of the stunt series, a pair of Jackass-worthy documentaries, and a vicious Finnish import.Jackass Number TwoThe first Jackass movie (also available on Netflix) successfully translated Johnny Knoxville, director Jeff Tremaine, and producer Spike Jonze's skater-inspired stunt show to the big screen. But the pinnacle of their work as violent, self-inflicting clowns is Jackass Number Two, in which a higher production budget allowed all of their dreams to come true. And that's how the process...

Apologies in advance…
It’s time to lower the tone in the name of entertainment!
Everyone loves a bit of visual toilet humour, right!? Well, maybe, but regardless of our feelings towards it, it won’t go away. Movies are still filled with far jokes and bodily fluids spilling left, right and centre.
So, for a few minutes, let’s just roll with it. Embrace it. Celebrate it, even.
I know that an awful lot of snuff movies and video nasties have disgusting scenes of this nature, but here we’ll be focusing on more commercial movies, proving that even mainstream stuff can be vile.
Here are fifteen vile scenes involving bodily substances (other than blood)…

The trailer for the fourth theatrical "Jackass" installment finds Johnny Knoxville donning his geriatric Irving Zisman getup for more mindless gags. "Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa" focuses on Irving's cross-country road-trip shenanigans with his 8-year-old grandson. Expect more of the usual injury-inducing gimmicks and offensive subtext that are hallmarks in the "Jackass" series.
The movie received an unexpected release date a couple of weeks ago, when fans discovered that it was finished and ready to replace the delayed "Paranormal Activity 5" on the fall release calendar. "Bad Grandpa" will hit theaters Oct. 25.
Each of the first three "Jackass" entries led to modest commercial success, particularly given their relatively small budgets. The first was made for $5 million but grossed nearly $80 million worldwide, while 2006's "Jackass Number Two" managed to set the record for highest-grossing October opening weekend -- at least until "Paranormal Activity 3" stole the title the following year. "Jackass 3D," released in 2010 with a $20 million budget,...

In this economy, filmmakers will do just about anything to boost ticket sales. And when they've already placed larger-than-life ads all over the world, what more can you do? Publicity, silly!

Network Ten has apologised to viewers after broadcasting a film on its digital channel that showed close up images of a man, not an actor, defecating.
The gross-out film Jackass Number Two, based on the MTV reality series, aired on Eleven from 9.30pm to 11.30pm.
The network has so far received five complaints from viewers.
In an email to Mumbrella, one viewer wrote: “The faeces are shown coming out of his backside and there are close-ups of the faeces. Is it a breach of the TV networks’ Code of Practise?”

The high-speed death of "Jackass" star Ryan Dunn on Monday is the latest harsh reminder of the deadly consequences of mixing alcohol and automobiles.
As the site of the crash that took the life of Dunn, 34, and his passenger, Zachary Hartwell, 30, transforms into a makeshift memorial and cautionary tale about the dangers of drinking and driving, experts told MTV News that these kinds of accidents are not unusual but totally preventable.
"In my experience, it's quite a common thing," said Jan Withers, president-elect of Madd (Mothers Against Drunk Driving), whose 15-year-old daughter was killed when the drunk driver of the car she was riding in lost control of the vehicle. "A person has had several drinks, their judgment becomes impaired and so do their inhibitions.

West Goshen, Pennsylvania — Visitors who came in droves to the stretch of highway where Ryan Dunn's life ended said the deaths of the "Jackass" star and his passenger on Monday serve as a shocking warning that even someone as seemingly immortal as the daredevil couldn't survive the risk of drinking and driving.
"I hope a lot of kids in the community will see what happened to their role model. Maybe this sends a signal that you're not indestructible," said a West Goshen police officer, a father of two teens.
Laraine Livergood of Collegeville brought her three children to the crash site Wednesday night. "It shows what drinking and driving can do," she said.

To begin with, I offer my sympathy to Ryan Dunn's family and friends, and to those of Zachary Hartwell, who also died in the crash. I mean that sincerely. It is tragic to lose a loved one. I also regret that my tweet about the event was considered cruel. It was not intended as cruel. It was intended as true.
I have no way of knowing if Ryan Dunn was drunk at the time of his death. What I knew before posting my tweet was that not long before his death, he posted...

Some grim findings in the shocking death of Ryan Dunn. After conducting an autopsy, the Chester County (Pa.) Coroner's Office has confirmed that both the Jackass star and his passenger, Zachary Hartwell, perished from a combination of blunt force trauma and the inferno that engulfed his 2007 Porsche in an early morning crash on Monday. But we'll have to wait a while before we learn if alcohol played a role. In the autopsy findings released today, the coroner ruled that the 34-year-old Dunn and 30-year-old Hartwell, a production assistant on Jackass Number Two, were already dead from blunt force trauma and thermal trauma by the time emergency personnel reached the scene of the fiery...

"Jackass" fans the world over woke up this morning to the terrible news that star Ryan Dunn was killed in a car accident Sunday evening. Dunn's fans are understandably devastated by the news, and to honor his memory, the MTV Movies crew is looking back upon five of his very best "Jackass" movie moments. Rest in peace, Ryan.
"Master Blaster"
"Jackass 3D" blew us away, and it blew Dunn away as well—literally! Poor Ryan was the guy selected to participate in the movie's "Master Blaster" stunt, where he sat in an admittedly comfortable-looking chair while withstanding the awesome force of an L-39 jet fighter's activated engine. There are certainly easier (and less expensive) ways to cool off, but hats off to Ryan for giving us this priceless moment.

While the Jackass crew is large, its married ranks are small. And getting smaller, now that one of the MTV stars turned big-screen stuntmeisters has been served with divorce papers. So, is Johnny Knoxville's second missus tired of his schtick? Are Bam Margera and Missy calling it quits now that they live in separate cities? Is Dave England's lady sick of being married to, as he put it on the Jackass Number Two DVD commentary, the "world's first professional s--tter?" More: Knoxville's latest stunt—father of two! No, it's "Party Boy" Chris Pontius who's headed for eligible-bachelor status again after five years of marriage to Claire...

This Week in DVD & Blu-ray is a column that compiles all the latest info regarding new DVD and Blu-ray releases, sales, and exclusive deals from stores including Target, Best Buy and Fry’s. Four Lions For at least half of its runtime, Four Lions is a relatively good-natured comedy, foremost because its characters seem like relatively good-natured people. This is obviously in spite of the film's subject matter, which focuses on a group of young Muslim men aspiring to become Jihadi Islamist terrorists. Like 2009's In the Loop, the film aims to highlight the absurdity of contentious political issues, making light of a dark topic with some smartly observed satire. But there are two major differences between In the Loop and Four Lions. The first is that Four Lions is a sillier film. Its committed to the realism of its semi-documentary style, but only as much as, say, This Is Spinal Tap.

Producers Paramount Pictures and MTV Films announced yesterday that Jackass 3.5 will be released online in weekly installments, with the subsequent feature-length film released digitally in March. Exactly where Jackass 3.5 will be available has not yet been announced however. In a press release, Thomas Lesinski, President of Paramount Digital Entertainment stated:
I don’t want to say that the ‘Jackass’ guys invented the Internet, but they were doing viral videos before most people had even heard the term. That distinguished heritage makes ‘Jackass’ the perfect franchise for digital.
The footage will feature unseen stunts from Jackass 3D, which has earned more than $116 million at the box office since it was released in October.
In 2007, Jackass 2.5 similarly followed Jackass Number Two. At the time it was claimed that the film was the first broadband movie distributed by a major studio after it was streamed for a week for free by Blockbuster...

Every "Jackass" movie is supposedly the last one. But every "Jackass" movie makes a ton of money -- more, in fact, than the previous installment. The latest, "Jackass 3D," has already grossed over $116 million dollars in the U.S. alone according to Box Office Mojo, nearly double the $64 million gross of the original. The films cost relatively little to make and are incredibly profitable, so here's my guess: despite all their claims that they're getting too old or they're running out of ideas there's going to be a "Jackass" until one of the movies tanks or one of the guys dies.
There's another reason why this franchise will run forever: because the films have no plots, you can release deleted scenes as entirely new movies. Between "Jackass Number Two" and "3D," Paramount released the outtake fest "Jackass 2.5," and today they announced a "Jackass 3.5" is coming as well. From the...

The Jackass pranksters have banned girls from carrying out stunts in their TV show and movies - because they were devastated when a female friend hurt herself in one daring skit.
The stars, who are known for their wild antics and dangerous tricks, hired their pal, Coyote Ugly actress Stephanie Hodge, to appear in both Jackass: The Movie and sequel Jackass Number Two.
But after Hodge injured herself during filming for a shocking scene, the male stars vowed never to let any more women take part in their pranks.
Johnny Knoxville tells Britain's Elle magazine, "We had a girl on the show from time to time, Stephanie Hodge. She's a great friend of ours and she got hurt doing a stunt once and so we decided no more girls doing stunts. No that they can't - just in Jackass, because we all hated feeling that way."...

The man-comedy did well, but Jackass capitalised on tech to post the best results for its franchise so far. Meanwhile, there was disappointment for Another Year and Let Me In
The winner
In the battle of the big Us comedies, Due Date, from The Hangover director Todd Phillips, has emerged victorious over Jackass 3D. The road-trip comedy opened with £2.35m, not so very far behind The Hangover's debut of £2.75m (plus £444,000 in previews) in June 2009. The result is good news for lead actors Robert Downey Jr and Zach Galifianakis: following his success in Iron Man and Sherlock Holmes, properties that had the benefit of pre-existing awareness, Downey can now be seen as bankable in an original-screenplay comedy; meanwhile Galifianakis, no one-trick pony, has proved himself outside The Hangover. Due Date's opening is the biggest for a male-driven comedy in 2010. The Other Guys, starring Will Ferrell, debuted with £1.98m in September; Grown Ups,...

Paramount Pictures will likely be trick-or-treating early this year, as the studio is expected to snag the top two spots at the box office over the weekend with its horror sequel Paranormal Activity 2 and the surprisingly potent Jackass 3D. The original Paranormal Activity is already considered a box-office legend. The 2009 haunted-house flick, which was made for a mere $15,000, built initial buzz by letting moviegoers “demand” local screenings through the film’s website. After four weeks of increasingly sold-out showings, the movie opened wide exactly one year ago and shocked pundits by conquering the weekend with $21.1 million (and simultaneously crushing...

In news that will surprise absolutely no one, Paramount is already thinking about how they can possibly squeeze even more money out of the Jackass franchise after Jackass 3D's stellar $50 million opening weekend. In this case, however, a traditional sequel is not necessarily what they have in mind. While it remains to be seen if Johnny Knoxville and his compadres ever plan to reassemble for a fourth feature film, Knoxville himself has already stated that they shot enough footage to fill an entire second film of outtakes. He had hinted that they might even be able to release this so-called Jackass 3.5 on DVD just in time for Christmas... but hold on a minute there! Why rush to release it direct-to-dvd when you could release it in theatres and get people to pay to see it twice? That just doesn't make good business sense! According to the L.A. Times...

Jackass 3D blew up in theaters this weekend. I ended up going to a midnight showing for the film in which four screenings of it sold out. People love seeing these guys jack themselves up on screen. The film made $50.4 million dollars on it's opening weekend. Because of it's success, Paramount Pictures is looking to release a Jackass 3.5 type film, which will also be in 3D.
This next release will contain footage that was already shot, but didn't make the final cut of the film. Ringleader Johnny Knoxville said they filmed so much material that they could easily create another sequel.
We shot two movies' worth of footage. We have so many bits that we never even turned in to Paramount because we were so swamped with ideas — funny stuff. The bits were just coming out of us left and right.
Paramount was already planning to use the extra footage...

Jackass 3-D grossed a whopping $50.3 million in its debut weekend, setting several records and setting punditry tongues wagging in the process. First of all, the film bested the $48.1 million opening weekend for Scary Movie 3 in 2003, taking the October opening weekend record. Second of all, the opening figure is far and away the best opening weekend for any kind of non-fiction/documentary film in history. If you count this series as a documentary franchise (which I do), then the third entry is now the fifth-highest grossing documentary in history in just three days. It stands behind Jackass: The Movie ($64 million), Jackass Number Two ($72 million), March of the Penguins ($77 million), and Fahrenheit 9/11 ($119 million). While the franchise has mediocre legs (part one had a 2.9x weekend-to-total multiplier in 2002...
