Reviving its old policy, the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (Mns) led by Raj Thackeray has warned Bollywood producers against ‘laying the red carpet’ for Pakistani singer Atif Aslam on his purported “comeback” plans to croon for a Hindi film.
Mns Cinema Wing President Ameya Khopkar said that those who are gearing up to bring Aslam here based on a court verdict “need to be shown their place”.
“Pakistani artistes will not be tolerated here. Never. It is unfortunate that we need to repeat ourselves, yet let me make it clear once again,” Khopkar, who had earlier objected to the release of a Pakistan film titled ‘The Legend of Maula Jatt’ in December 2022, said here on Monday.
He also targeted popular singer Arijit Singh, who is reportedly standing in support of Aslam.

Singer and music composer Rahul Vaidya has slammed the fake death announcement by the controversial actress Poonam Pandey, urging people to refrain from reacting, categorising it as a strategic move in her campaign, and dismissing it with a poignant ‘Rip PR/marketing’.
On Friday morning, a post appeared on Pandey’s official Instagram handle announcing her death from cervical cancer. Rahul earlier had suspicions regarding the sudden death announcement of Poonam.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the ‘Baaton Ko Teri’ singer had written: “Am I the only one who thinks Poonam Pandey is not dead…??”
Now, on Saturday, when Poonam shared a video on social media saying that she has faked her demise, as she wanted to ignite a conversation around cervical cancer, Rahul took to the social media and voiced his strong disapproval, calling it a new low of creating a sensational campaign.

Brings a barrage of memories, doesn’t it?
It was the era of good music playing across the Indian mainstream as opposed to the current times when barring a few exceptions, all you hear are singers setting their voices to melodyne or auto-tune, and composers heavily synthesising their melodies to make it “audience friendly”.
However, true art and artistic integrity always make their way around as they transcend the boundaries of space and time, and Zulfiqar Jabbar Khan, professionally known as Xulfi, is a true testament of this fact.
Xulfi is the lead singer of the Pakistani band ‘Call’ and is the one who sang ‘Laree Chootee’ and even featured in its music video which cross-cuts between two worlds of ‘Call’ performing for the screen and Abhay and Neha Dhupia dancing to the tune.

The youngest of Bollywood’s famous Kapoor brothers, he did not have their one defining and enduring cinematic image – Raj’s naive "tramp" identity in the Charlie Chaplin tradition or Shammi’s Elvis-like jiving, rebellious "playboy" persona, but went to surpass both in sheer diversity of his acting.
With his copybook good looks, rakish smile, infectious charm, toothy grin and languid drawl, or the air of earnestness, playing romantic roles, be they of businessmen, police inspectors, college students, et al came naturally to him, but Shashi Kapoor went on to play more ‘common man’ roles, decadent princes, aging poets and even angels with the same charm and intensity.
Born on March 18, 1938 in the then Calcutta to Prithviraj Kapoor and Ramsarn ‘Rama’ Devi, Balbir Raj ‘Shashi’ Kapoor was destined to walk in his family’s footsteps on the silver screen.

The trailer of Mohit Suri’s Malang is like a rollercoaster ride …on Speed. The images are deliberately done in distinctive blotchy colours to show minds on the brink. Producer Luv Ranjan says Malang is the most emotionally violent film he has produced. After seeing the trailer I have to agree.
There are no normal characters in Malang, at least none is visible in the tempestuous trailer. Each of the four protagonists played by Aditya Roy Kapoor, Disha Patani, Kunal Khemmu and (above all) Anil Kapoor is high on life. They jump off planes, they whizz past life in fast cars, they bathe themselves in bright colours.
These are characters who live in the fast aand furious lane. I don’t know what motivates their ceaseless rush of surplus adrenaline, maybe the realization that any of the fearless four can end up dead on the slippery sidewalk.

Girish Karnad was one of the true intellectuals of post Independent India. A polyglot, playwright, actor, film maker, aesthete, scholar, teacher, critic and a humanist Girish was never a close friend but someone whom I always looked forward to meeting.
We came to know each other around 1972 through several common friends like Shyam Benegal, Basu Chatterjee, Satyadev Dubey and B.V. Karanth though I was acquainted with his work from the mid-sixties. His plays 'Yayati' (1961), 'Tughlaq' (1964), 'Hayavadana' (1972) and 'Nagamandala' (1988) rank among the finest Indian plays post-Independence.
A Rhodes scholar, Girish interestingly started by reading Mathematics in college. He was to become a scholar in history, literature, cinema and stagecraft. He was steeped in Indian tradition and had a deep study of our mythology, specially the Mahabharata.
He has won practically every award which an artiste in India can aspire for - Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, Sahitya Akademi Award, Kalidas Samman, Jnanpith Award,...

Actor Kunal Kemmu has been a part of filmmaker Rohit Shetty's Golmaal franchise for a while now. He says the multi-starrer film series works only because of the entire team, including his co-stars Ajay Devgn, Arshad Warsi and Tusshar Kapoor. Kunal has been part of Golmaal 3, Golmaal Again, Go Goa Gone and has more multi-starrer movies, including the recently announced Malang and the fifth part of Golmaal, lined up.
What does he like about being a part of multi-starrer movies?
"The most important reason is that it's not on your shoulders," he replied with a laugh.? But that's not the only reason.
"It's the story that always attracts me. A film like Golmaal only works because of all of us. It is as much Ajay's film as it is mine or Arshad's or Tusshar's. These are the stories of the gang,"
Kunal told Ians in a telephonic interview.

Mohit Suri’s Ek Villain starring Riteish Deshmukh, Sidharth Malhotra and Shraddha Kapoor is among the most keenly awaited films of the season what with his enviable track record of blockbusters behind him.
Talking about the film’s unusual casting, Mohit says, “I’ve never followed convention. I’ve never cast people just because they’re hot or popular. For me, it’s always been about who is right for the role. Riteish, for instance, has never done something like this before. You’ve seen him largely in comic roles. Yet when you watch Ek Villain you will realize that there is no one better than Riteish for this role. Sidharth has struggled his way up; he’s seen dark days. There was angst in him that made him a perfect fit for this film. Shraddha is more like a boyfriend, a guy buddy I can call in the middle of the night.

Mumbai, Feb 20: Alia Bhatt already seems to be getting experimental - after playing a fashion-conscious and arrogant young girl in her debut film "Student Of The Year" she will now be seen as a deglamourised character in "Highway". She says she won't do something as bizarre as going bald for a movie, but she's game to being bold.
Her father, filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt, is known to have produced several bold movies like "Murder", "Jism" "Raaz" and "Kalyug" and Alia doesn't find it tough to take up bold roles.
So what if she started her career with a typical Karan Johar film? The actress said: "I would love to do a film like.

Mumbai: Mahesh Bhatt’s ‘Blood Money’ directed by Vishal Mahadkar will be out soon, the scheduled release date is 30th of March, 2012. Mahesh it seems is not very happy with the current title. If he had had his way, the film would have been titled ‘Kalyug 2’ instead of ‘Blood Money’.
Indeed he meant to, but was forced to relent after being staunchly opposed by director Vishal and actor Kunal Khemu. The justification they gave is quite sensible. The Bhatt camp is already making ‘Raaz 3’, ‘Murder 3’, ‘Jism 3’, ‘Ashiqui 2’; so it made sense to try and keep an original title like ‘Blood Money’.
‘Blood Money’ is the story of a small-time boy (Kunal Khemu) who elopes with his girl (actress Amrita Puri of ‘Aisha’ fame) to Cape Town where he enters into a diamond.

“Only three things work in the film industry,” says Balan’s character, ”Entertainment, Entertainment and Entertainment.” While many Bollywood movies have been exploiting this fact to the core with “entertainment” solely replacing content, Ekta Kapoor’s and Milan Luthria’s The Dirty Picture proves a point that you can serve both entertainment and good content together. And yes, if the promos have made an impression that this movie is all sex, then you couldn’t be more wrong. For the makers of this movie have definitely ensured that what you take home from this movie is a complete package.

First things first, Mahesh and Mukesh Bhatt’s Murder 2 is in no way connected to the original film Murder. Though titled Murder 2, this one is totally independent of the first, except perhaps the fact that it too stars Emraan Hashmi. Other than that, it seems that the only reason to call it a sequel to the 2004 Bollywood hit is to cash in on the almost cult –like status, which Murder had achieved.
While Murder was a remake of Unfaithful, Murder 2 seems quite inspired by the South Korean movie The Chaser. However, Mohit Suri deftly adds his own dimension to the screenplay, which prevents the story from looking out of place. Arjun (Emraan Hashmi) is a corrupt ex-cop who left his job to earn the extra buck by working with gangsters and pimps. Priya (Jacqueline Fernandes) is a model who loves Arjun, however for him it’s strictly a physical relationship: “na mohabbat,...
