In Trinity, the inhabitants are affected by a mysterious plague and CDC sends Dr. Billy Peale to help and research the causes. Sheriff Lucas Buck asks Dr. Matt Crower to lie to the press to avoid panic in the town. Meanwhile Gail Emory is seduced by Sheriff Buck and she gets laid with him. Soon Matt is infected and the plague drives him crazy. Gail also becomes affected by the plague and Lucas brings her unconscious to the hospital. When Merlyn visits Caleb, the boy realizes what is happening in Trinity.

"The Plague Sower" is a creepy episode of "American Gothic" with the population of Trinity affected by a plague. Gail's attitude falling for Lucas Buck is totally unexpected. The boy Lucas Black has a fantastic and touching performance and has definitely incorporated his character. My vote is eight.

A bloody plague strikes Trinity
Tweekums6 April 2017
Warning: Spoilers
As this episode opens Deputy Healy and Dr Crower head to a property were they find a hanged man with blood coming from his eyes and a sign with the word 'Repent' around his neck. This is not a one off; it turns out a number of people have been admitted to hospital bleeding from their eyes and ears. The public is pressuring Sheriff Buck for information but he has no fact to offer. The Center for Disease Control has sent Dr Billy Peale to help find a cause for the outbreak; he kind find an obvious course but he does notice that those affected have all had recent contact with Lucas Buck. As the story progresses Dr Crower starts ranting and reciting various ominous quotes and it becomes apparent what the real cause of events is.

This was another solid episode which features some genuinely disturbing moments; especially if you are bothered by the sight of blood. Early on there is an interesting mystery concerning the plague although the cause is hinted at fairly early and later confirmed. It was good that for once it wasn't Lucas Buck behind the events. In fact it was somebody who believed they were doing good but to quote Nietzsche 'He who fights monsters might take care lest he becomes a monster'. The only slightly weak part of the episode was the way Gail threw herself at Lucas Buck when everything we've seen so far suggested she couldn't stand him. The regular cast do a fine job and guest star, or possible new cast member, John Mese does a fine job as Dr Peale; the scene where he confronts and threatens Lucas was particularly good. Overall this maintains the high quality of recent episodes; the series seems to have really hit its stride.
