- TriviaThis episode is the first time Goober is referred to as "Goober Pyle." In Season 5, episode 23 "TV Or Not TV," Andy refers to Goober as "Goober Beasley."
- GoofsWhen the con man is leaving town toward the end, the train schedule shows 'Ashville' listed on the chalkboard behind him. Asheville, North Carolina, presuming this is the city (since it's in the same state as Mayberry), is spelled with an 'e'. The name of the city is misspelled.

Good casting of Roger Perry
Andy especially being law enforcement is really lax. No background check, no asking for heads-up from train & bus depots. No one was suspicious, or investigated about digging on gavernment land? No permit? Andy's vehement apprehension giving in to his greed temptation was a funny bit. Always good to see Goober (George Lindsey) and Floyd (Howard McNear) teamed up. Funniest parts were Goober imposing on the Taylors during a meal, and Floyd & Goober realizing they got conned. The money figures would be 10x in today's money. Everybody would like to hit it big. Mayberry people are no different.
