Louis Lindquist: And if you get shafted by another machine?
Francis Lindquist: I'll remember what you told me.
Louis Lindquist: Right. You don't break the law, Francis. You find a way to take it out on somebody else.

Jack Somack as Mr. Cotterman
"The Arsonist" begins with a typical exchange between Wojo (late for work as usual) and Fish- Wojo: "penny for your thoughts?" Fish: "save your money!" There is indeed an arsonist on the loose, yet careful not to injure anybody, Harris theorizing it's a new firebug who does it because he enjoys it, and is both 'sexually frustrated and socially inadequate' (he's right, to Wojo's annoyance). It turns out to be a mama's boy (Steve Franken) who must insist to 'Mother' that she can't come with him ("it's NOT all right!"). Chano brings in a man (Roger Bowen) guilty of a shooting... firing six bullets into an unresponsive candy machine refusing to give out 20 cent Butterfingers (Fish: "you can't go around shooting things that frustrate you, a man would wind up alone!"). Jack Somack introduces a new character, Mr. Cotterman (six episodes, next seen in "Protection"), a longtime liquor store owner continuously robbed or vandalized ("I've been robbed so many times, they all look like friends!"); he makes the mistake of wondering if he's going to be the next arson victim, right in front of the now arrested firebug. Again absent from this episode are Barney's wife Liz (fourth straight) and Yemana (third straight).
