Building up the business through spare parts
"Borrowed Trouble" opens with Ed as usual driving away the first day's customer (Larry Hovis), lacking enough spare parts to save his wreck of a car. Chico convinces him to take out a loan from a Chicano bank, which looks for opportunities to give back to the community. Loan officer Mr. Delgado (Julio Medina) asks if Ed has ever been arrested, and an affirmative answer gets applause from Chico: "all right!" The story is a sad one from his youth, when he was employed as a janitor in a music shop where the girls weren't actually giving music lessons, and the piano itself wasn't properly tuned! The cops raided the place: "yeah, there I was, with my broom in my hand...I was booked as a youthful offender, and I never even had a chance to offend!" After Chico goes toe to toe in Espanol with the officer they get the loan, only for three days to go by without a single customer. Isaac Ruiz makes his debut as Mando (six more appearances), working construction on Ed's block, the reason why business has stayed away for 72 hours. Trying to convince Chico that he can put on a smile for a precise female customer (Alma Beltran), Ed tires himself out from an attack of niceness!
