I don't say this lightly but actually, for once, Martin is absolutely right. The farmer is using intimidation to take away access to a public footpath and Martin's quite right to be furious. Anne is totally wrong to be telling him to forget it, though I can see how Martin's general behaviour has probably worn her down. As for Paul getting access for a chosen few by being chums with the farmer, that's not good enough either.
This is a rare mis-step for EDC. I know Martin is irritating but Anne & Paul in this case are almost sneering at him, in a way they ordinarily don't. They get frustrated, or exasperated (esp Anne) but it's always good naturedly. This time there's an edge to it that is rather unpleasant.
