Re-watching this....about 40 years later.
I was never a huge fan of "I Love Lucy", though one episode has always stood out in my mind...an excellent show that has timeless appeal..."Lucy Gets a Paris Gown". And, I just discovered that all the old Lucy episodes are available from CBS All Access. Is the show as good as I remembered?
Lucy and Ethel go to a Paris fashion show and naturally they want designer outfits. However, Ricky and Fred are cheap...and the fashions were pretty ridiculous anyway. So, to play a trick on them, Ricky and Fred create their own designer outfits...and they make them as ridiculous as possible. When they give them to the wives, the ladies are NOT pleased. What's next? Well, that's what makes the show worth seeing.
After re-watching the show, in many ways it's as good as I remember. About the only thing I didn't like was the hunger strike portion...as Lucy really overacted horribly...though, I must admit, the show was never intended to be subtle. But, on balance it's a great episode because in the 50s, like today, many of the fashion designers WERE and ARE dressing their models like idiots! Very funny.
