- When Hyacinth sees an advertisement in the newspaper for a senior position in frozen foods, she jumps at the chance to get Richard a dignified job position. But of course Richard will not apply through the normal channels; Hyacinth insists that he must win over Frosticles on the golf course!—Nadia Nassar
- The local frozen food factory, owned by Mr. Millburn, is looking to hire a managing director with executive experience. Hyacinth decides it's right up Richard's street, but assumes if he merely applies for the job without impressing Mr. Millburn in some way beforehand, he'll likely get turned down. She therefore decides the golf course is the best place for them to impress Mr. Millburn and his cronies, and with Onslow's help stages a scenario to make Richard look really good in front of the factory owner when they meet him there. But will the ruse cause people's expectations of Richard to be TOO high?—E. E. Buchanan
- The postman arrives at Hyacinth's house and tries to sneak up and put the letters through the letter box before she hears and comes out- something he's never succeeded in doing as she always makes a point of taking the mail in person. For a moment, it looks as if he will succeed, as she does not come to the door. Unfortunately for him, she had been away overnight and returns in a cab at that moment, coming up behind him as he goes up the drive. When she spots him sticking the mail through her mail slot she shouts at him, scaring him badly. She tells him that unless the letters have first-class stamps, he is not to put them into her letter box. He tries to explain that the post office isn't responsible for what stamps the senders put on their letters, but Hyacinth just thinks he is trying to evade her and sends him off with a stern warning that only first-class stamps will satisfy her.
At Daisy and Onslow's house, Rose has gotten a new job selling costume jewelry door to door, and a new outfit for the occasion. She comes upstairs to ask them how they think she looks. However, neither of them wake no matter what she says. Finally, she says something about spilled beer, which wakes Onslow, who looks about for the "mess", startled. Rose shakes Daisy and wakes her as well. However, as at some point the night before Hyacinth was over, they are both still in a bad mood and uncooperative. Onslow finally tells Rose her outfit is too risque, which frustrates her and she storms out.
Back at Hyacinth's house, Richard is in the bathroom shaving when Hyacinth, reading her morning paper, discovers that the Frosticles Frozen Food company, owned by their fellow town inhabitant Mr. Millburn, is looking to hire a managing director. Only persons of proven ability with previous executive experience are eligible for the position - as Richard has experience on the City Council, Hyacinth decides this is right up his street and tells him about it.
Richard is not terribly keen on the prospect of working in a frozen food factory in ANY position, executive or otherwise, but Hyacinth insists it would be good for him, despite his protests that he doesn't feel he can apply for this sort of job. However, Hyacinth confuses him when she proceeds to tell him NOT to apply for the job, as she fears that this sort of position is only filled by people "knowing people". And while they are marginally acquainted with the Millburns, she suspects if Richard does not do something to impress Mr. Millburn in some way he won't get the job. She also decides the best place to impress Mr. Millburn is when he goes to the links for his daily round of golf. This idea terrifies Richard, who is horrible at golf and who knows Hyacinth's attempts to plot these kinds of things almost never work - however, he can't talk Hyacinth out of it and is dragged through a routine to train him to look "forceful and executive" when they meet Mr. Millburn at the links.
Meanwhile, Emmet is trying to train Elizabeth how to say "no" when Hyacinth asks her to do something. He pretends he is Hyacinth so she can practice being determined and forceful when she doesn't want to agree to Hyacinth's demands, and eventually she starts standing up to him bravely. But when Hyacinth calls and asks for them to come to coffee she says "yes" out of mere habit, and Emmet decides he's going to force her to say "no" to Hyacinth face to face. However, their focus is shattered when Richard comes storming heedlessly past them out the front door, having temporarily lost it because of Hyacinth's pestering. Hyacinth drags them both in for coffee before they can get their bearings again, and explains to them what she's planning.
Midway through this, Hyacinth relieves a call from Daisy. Daisy is asking for help with Daddy, who has gone "Naturist" and has climbed onto the roof of the house - Onslow is getting him down, but she fears he'll try again. At first Hyacinth sees no problem with this, thinking Daddy is just trying to be more healthy and outdoorsy. However, when she discovers Daisy only said "naturist" by mistake when she meant "nudist", she boots Emmet and Elizabeth out of the house, and she and Richard hustle off to try to help avoid a scandal. En route, Richard demands that Hyacinth face the fact that no matter how good the plot is, he still can't play golf, which forces her to think of another plan.
On arriving at Daisy and Onslow's house, they discover that the problem took care of itself as Daddy's second escape attempt ended in a bed of nettles, which has soured him on the nudist ideas. Seeing Onslow in his usual apparel (or lack thereof), Hyacinth gets a new idea and asks Onslow to do her a favor, in return for a month's supply of smoky bacon and beer - and frozen food as well, if all goes right. He eagerly agrees without asking why, much to Daisy's chagrin.
Hyacinth gets herself and Richard changed and drags him to the golf course, briefing him on the new plan. Onslow is there ahead of them, in the woods, and he is going to walk out of the woods and onto the course on her signal. All Richard has to do is pretend Onslow is a menacing hoodlum and throw him out. Richard isn't much better pleased with this, but as it's easier than trying to actually play golf, complies.
Mr. Millburn and his party appear on the course, Hyacinth signals Onslow, and apart from a slight hitch with Onslow missing the signal the first four or five times, everything goes exactly according to plan. Mr. Millburn is duly impressed with Richard and they join the Millburn party for the rest of the round. However, two real hoodlums show up and start heckling them. Mr. Millburn sics Richard on them, but when Richard sees that one of them is a good seven feet tall, he flees in terror, falling into a sand trap and knocking himself unconscious. Enraged at the perfect plan falling apart, Hyacith charges the hoodlums and attacks one of them with her golf bag, driving them off. Mr. Millburn, realizing she's both the brains and brawn of the duo, eagerly offers her the position at Frosticles that Richard was trying for. Richard begs her to accept it, but she declines, fearing he'd be bored and lonely without her.
