Who Needs Steroids? Not This Guy!
This was a very memorable episode, especially for us baseball fans. The subject matter made this one of my all-time favorite stories in this show. Leo Durocher, a pretty famous player and manager for the New York Giants and Brooklyn/Los Angeles Dodgers, gets hit on top of the head from a ball batted by Herman eight blocks away.
Funny scenes include Durocher's trip to the Munster house and meeting his family (hint: he faints after seeing Herman) and his tryout session at the local ballpark. Herman shows the greatest power hitting and throwing in baseball history, so much so that - in addition to the laughs he brings with the slapstick - a team couldn't afford to have him because he would demolish the stadium he time he played!
The outrageous baseball scenes are funny no matter how many times I see them, which is probably a half dozen over the last 40-some years. Durocher did a nice job of acting, too. He was a natural in front of the camera. He was married to an actress so Hollywood was no stranger to him.
