Alfre Woodard

Maybe my prejudice is showing by scoring this episode a 9. But I absolutely love Alfred Woodard. She played an amazing part in this 2 part episode. She is one of my favorites.

Actually, Bobby Was Right
Hitchcoc6 July 2022
Bobby had every right to force a plea based on financial need. Jimmy gets on his high horse, but it is a business and the clients will get millions. It doesn't exonerate the beer company but this is the real world. They have driven sympathetic witnesses to tears, even children. Ellenor's case was quite interesting because of legal paradox. Alfre Woodard was amazing as the death row client.

Absolutely outstanding

Warning: Spoilers
This was an astoundingly powerful episode. The eloquence and passion with which Ellenor delivered her final argument incredibly moving. I couldn't help feeling sympathy for the judge who had to make a decision so difficult I can't even imagine. When he left the courtroom I remember thinking that Ellenor's argument was powerful that if that didn't sway him then nothing would. I also felt tremendous sympathy for the parents of the two boys. They suffered and incomprehensible loss, but the simple truth is that this was not an act of violence or malice or hatred. It was committed by a person suffering from an extreme and undiagnosed mental illness. She was not of sound mind and to execute her would have been a terrible miscarriage of justice. This brings me to the magnificent and incomparable Ms. Alfre Woodard. Wow what a performance! Not that I'm surprised. She is easily one of the greatest actors living today and I'm so happy she won a much deserved Emmy award for this role. I wish there was a legal drama on TV today that is even half as good as The Practice was. Well, for at least the first 6 seasons. The show kind of started going downhill in season 7 and season 8...well, we don't talk about season 8. I like to pretend it never happened.
