In his 1986 book "Absolutely Mahvelous", Billy Crystal reveals that he and Christopher Guest they had to get up at 3 AM to get into makeup for the pre-recorded baseball sketch. When they were finally made up as two elderly African-American men, they got onto an elevator at 30 Rockfeller Center with Dan Aykroyd, who was there to appear on Today (1952). Crystal and Guest, in character as "The Rooster" and "King Carl" told Aykroyd they didn't like his movie Neighbors (1981), because his 'hair was so weird'. When Aykroyd finally caught on, he told them it was amazing what they could do with make-up.
Lew Goldman's weather report during Saturday Night News was written by Billy Crystal and Larry David, one of the very few instances in which David managed to get something into the live show.
Saturday Night Live was displaced from studio 8H due to election coverage, which necessitated that the first five shows of the season were broadcast from two smaller studios on different floors (3A and 8G); the opening theme is also noticeably prerecorded during these shows.
