"Hope for Haiti Now: A Global Benefit for Earthquake Relief" drew a cumulative audience of more than 83 million viewers and a gross average audience of more than 24 million viewers in the United States, according to Nielsen Media Research. The telethon has now raised more than $61 million in donations from the general public to date.
Across the Web and mobile, "Hope for Haiti Now" attracted 1.9 million video streams during the live broadcast. Between the live broadcast and replays of the performances available on MTV.com and other sites, "Hope for Haiti Now" attracted 5.8 million total streams throughout the weekend, including more than 150,000 mobile streams. The "Hope for Haiti Now" iPhone app, which allowed for live streaming of the broadcast, has been downloaded more than 100,000 times.

In response to the devastating earthquake in Haiti that has killed up to tens of thousands of people, George Clooney and MTV Networks are organizing a megawatt line up of musicians, film and television stars for a national telethon looking to be successful in raising funds as previous disaster telethons have in the past. "He's been on the phone for three days straight with almost no sleep," Clooney's rep told People when he skipped the Critics' Choice Awards Friday in order to prepare for the Haiti telethon. NEW YORK -- CNN has hired noted events producer-director Joel Gallen to lead its CNN Heroes awards fete, honoring ordinary people who do extraordinary things. It will be televised live worldwide Dec. 6.
The Emmy- and Peabody-winning Gallen produced and directed the musical telethon America: A Tribute to Heroes days after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks as well as Shelter From the Storm: A Concert for the Gulf Coast after Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and White House specials during the Clinton years.
"This is something that's important to CNN, and we feel it's important to those people we're going to showcase that we treat them with the class they deserve," CNN Worldwide president Jim Walton said. "We wanted to bring in a first-rate event producer, and that's Joel."
The CNN Heroes awards mark the extraordinary deeds done by regular people all around the world in areas like civil rights, health care and the environment. The telecast, set to air live at 9 p.m. ET on Thursday, Dec.

TV producer and development executive Rick Austin has joined Fox Television Studios as vp alternative development, reporting to executive vp alternative development Holly Jacobs. Austin comes to Fox TV Studios from Joel Gallen's Tenth Planet Prods., through which he served as a producer on such specials as Comedy Central's Roasts of William Shatner and Pamela Anderson, the 2006 and 2005 MTV Movie Awards and the telethon Shelter from the Storm: A Concert for the Gulf Coast. Prior to that, Austin served as vp of alternative programming for Sci Fi Channel where he launched Scare Tactics and Mad Mad House. Austin began his career at MTV and VH1 in 1987 and was one of the creative forces that launched the inaugural MTV Movie Awards in 1992.
