Mandy Chang, the head of BBC documentary strand Storyville, is stepping down after four years in the role to join super-indie Fremantle as global head of factual.
Chang, whose role was officially commissioning editor of Storyville and acquisitions, will stay in the post until August, though recruitment for the role will begin in due course. Exclusive: BBC Africa and Nat Geo (Latin America) are among a number of international broadcasters to board the Fremantle-distributed water crisis film Day Zero, which narrator Chiwetel Ejiofor says brings urgency to an environmental issue that is not fully understood.
The Keo Films and OoS Pictures-produced documentary, which captures stories about communities hit by water shortages, has also found a home at Rai in Italy and Japan’s Nhk. Tech giant Tencent will carry Day Zero in China after it was created by the company’s chief exploration officer David Wallerstein.
Keo and OoS gathered footage for the film over a period of three years, visiting locations including Cape Town, South Africa, a city that nearly ran out of water in 2018. International Emmy director Kevin Sim was then brought on board to shape the narrative.
Ejiofor saw a cut of the film, and it helped convince him to sign up for the project.

Tencent Pictures, the film-making arm of Chinese tech giant Tencent, has the potential to be hugely influential on its home turf due to parent company’s domination of social media and gaming. Tencent’s massive scale – market capitalization over $700 billion makes it one of the world’s largest corporations – means it has the potential for huge overseas impact as well.
Recent setbacks at two of its Chinese subsidiaries led to a restructuring of its local film business. The result of that process was a streamlined strategy and the announcement last week of a bumper slate with 43 film and TV projects.
The lineup also appeared to re-confirm the company’s continuing interest in international projects.
Most controversially, there’s “Top Gun: Maverick,” which has already made headlines for digitally removing Japanese and Taiwanese flags from the back of Tom Cruise’s flight jacket to appease Chinese censors. Ironically, the patriotic American...

War of the Worlds episode 3 review
In the same way that Cormac McCarthy’s The Road – a fable about a boy and his dad trekking through an apocalyptic landscape – is really an existential scream about the impossibility of protecting our kids after we die (McCarthy dedicated it to the son he fathered at age 65), War of the Worlds is, at heart, about family. Being with them, making the right choices to keep them safe, and inevitably, losing them.
The loss was great in episode three, which did nothing to disqualify War of the Worlds from its current place in the running for Bleakest Drama of the Year. Not only were the streets piled with bodies, but some of those bodies had speaking roles. That’s a rare turn in the apocalypse survivor genre, which has taught us to expect at least a...

Opening Bethesda’s presser with a resounding bang, developer id Software took to the stage on Sunday evening – E3 Day Zero, essentially – to unveil Quake Champions, an old-school arena shooter in development for PC platforms.
Currently, id Software is considering that game to be a PC exclusive in many respects – “no excuses, no limitations” – but a recent GameSpot interview reveals that the studio isn’t opposed to the possibility of one day bringing Quake Champions to consoles. That’s according to the studio’s head honcho Tim Willits, who revealed that id plans “to focus on one platform” for the time being, before proclaiming a “love [for] console fans.”
It’s for this reason that Willits remains open to a console version at some point – “We’re not totally shutting the door on consoles” – just don’t expect it to launch anytime soon regardless of platform. Next up for Quake Champions is a long stint in beta phase: “It’s going to come out after a really, really long closed beta. I’m telling people now, it’s going to be a long beta,”
Quake Champions is without a release date for now, but expect more details to surface for the all-new arena shooter during QuakeCon in August.

Sometimes being an adult sucks. Don’t get me wrong, a lot of the time it’s just like being a kid with a beard and a legit ID, but sometimes — and especially when you have children — it means not having the time to catch the latest Star Wars movie in theaters. That movie you’d been geeking out all over for several years? Yeah, maybe your kid will get sick, who will then get your wife sick, and your wife will then get you sick. Then it’s quite possible that, living in close quarters, the three of you will just continue to pass this sickness back and forth for months. That happens, you know. And because of this, I was unable to see Star Wars: The Force Awakens upon its theatrical release. So when I learned that yes, I would be receiving a copy of the Blu-ray release of the film to review,...

Before Bethesda took to the stage on the eve of E3 Day Zero, many were anticipating that the publisher would lock down a release date for Fallout 4 following the debut of the sequel’s first trailer. What many didn’t expect, however, was a situation where Bethesda slated the post-apocalyptic title for release in 2015.
As it turns out, that’s exactly what occurred, sending the Internet into a fervent tailspin as a result. One of the reasons fans were so skeptical, though, was the fact that game publishers would so often announce a product up to two years in advance, generating a pre-emptive buzz via a borderline disingenuous vertical slice. According to Bethesda’s VP of Marketing Pete Hines, the studio was cognizant of such an approach, opting to wait until the time was right before lifting the curtain on Fallout 4.

Now that the We Got This Covered team has had time to marinate on the biggest and brightest announcements from a memorable E3 event, it’s now time to select our favorite games from the show.
It was by no means easy, particularly when you consider just how many press conferences there were. Bethesda kicked things off on the eve of Day Zero with a lean and mean showcase, toplined by a blood-drenched Doom and a detailed look at the lush world of Fallout 4 – a world that we’ll no doubt be spending umpteen hours in come November.
Barely twenty-four hours had passed when Microsoft took to the stage to bolster its first-party line-up, and the Xbox One has a renewed sense of purpose under the astute leadership of Phil Spencer. Gone are the days when Microsoft was trumpeting the Kinect and the “all-in-one” entertainment system from the rooftops.

Fallout 4! Doom! And much, much more. E3 2015 is finally kicking off, ladies and gentlemen, and this year’s inaugural press conference will be hosted by Bethesda – for the first time in the company’s history no less.
In what will surely go down as Day Zero in this year’s schedule, from this point on all eyes in the gaming industry will be concentrated on the House of Elder Scrolls. Granted, the studio may have let slip about a potential Dishonored 2 earlier today, but there are still a myriad of announcements still waiting in the wings, if Bethesda is to be believed. Can we expect a release date for Fallout 4, possibly one that will be slated for later this year? Or a potential Fallout collection to get the gaming community up to speed on the beloved post-apocalyptic series? Time will tell.

As expected, Sledgehammer Games’ Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare blasted its way to the summit of the UK all-format charts, dethroning the long-running champ, FIFA 15, in the process. Not only that, according to retail analyst chart track, week one sales of the studio’s high-octane shooter were more than Destiny, Titanfall and Wolfenstein: The New Order combined. Given that the trio stands as three of the biggest entries into the genre for 2014, that is quite the feat.
Here’s the comprehensive top ten in full, courtesy of GfK:
1) Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare
2) FIFA 15
3) Football Manager 2015
4) Alien: Isolation
5) Destiny
6) Minecraft: PlayStation Edition
7) Skylanders Trap Team
8) Sunset Overdrive
9) The Evil Within
10) Minecraft: Xbox Edition
It’s not all sunshine and rainbows, though, as Advanced Warfare now stands as only the fifth fastest-selling entry into Activision’s perennial franchise, which lends some credence to reports suggesting that the series has financially plateaued.

The day is finally here: Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is officially now out in the wild, though if you remembered to pre-order the Day Zero edition, you’ve probably been playing for the better part of a day already.
The latest entry into the CoD franchise comes hot on the heels of what’s popularly regarded as the worst entry in the core series, Ghosts, which was pretty much just an uninspired Greatest Hits of the franchise without any invention of its own, and boy, it really, really didn’t feel next-gen at all, did it?
It’s a pleasure to report, then, that Advanced Warfare is a significant improvement over its competent yet unoriginal predecessor, introducing a number of new elements to breathe fresh life into the franchise, all while course-correcting a number of the complaints people have with the series.

On the eve of its grand release, PlayStation 4 users have experienced a host of problems when trying to pre-load Activison’s Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.

You may be familiar with the "Day Zero Edition" of the upcoming Call of Duty allowing you to play a day early, but Wal-Mart has something a little extra.
Buying the Day Zero Edition at Wal-Mart won't get you any extras in the box, but if you head to your local store to pick it up you may get something. According to Activision they have teamed up with the stores to bring a Call of Duty event to over 2800 Wal-Mart stores starting at 10Am on Sunday. The event will go through the midnight release of the regulare edition Tuesday morning.
Fans that attend one of the events will have the chance to get some Cod Swag including posters and patches, along with the ability to participate in some tournaments in the store. Any person in the store that buys Mountain Dew or Doritos will also recieve an exclusive exoskeleton.

In news that shouldn’t surprise anyone, Microsoft has announced a Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare bundle for the Xbox One. For $499.99, you’ll get the console, of course, a 1Tb Hdd, a custom controller and headset, and the Day Zero edition of the game.
Just what does the Day Zero edition include, you ask? Well, we’ll tell you. Aside from receiving the Advanced Arsenal Bullet Brass Exoskeleton and EM1 Quantum directed energy weaponry, you’ll also get to enjoy double Xp all throughout November 3rd, which is one day before the game actually launches and is also when this bundle will be made available.
Overall, $499.99 isn’t too bad of a price for this package. Sure, there’s no Kinect, but you do get a copy of Advanced Warfare and an Hdd that’s double the size of the regular one. If you haven’t picked up the console yet,...

For starters, the image above is the special edition case of the game. The "regular" case can be seen below along with the Xbox cover.
Other perks are also coming your way if you pre-order the game. The biggest perk seems to be the ability to play the game a full 24 hours early! Check out the latest trailer for Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare!
My personal impression is that it is similar to recent Fps titles giving players a boost into the air when jumping. This is neat, and it looks fun, but one thing popped out to me. Did they seriously add cloaking into Call of Duty? Ugh! Every single game I've played with cloaking has absolutely annoyed the hell out of me. I even complained about this with Destiny! Beyond that though, it looks like a fun title.
From Activision: "Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare takes multiplayer gameplay to new heights. The core movement system is fundamentally changed with exoskeleton technology, creating the most dynamic, action-packed multiplayer experience in Call of Duty history.

Elijah Wood is set to take on his first major role in a live-action studio film in nearly a decade. The "Hobbit" star, who enjoyed a brief role in 2012's "An Unexpected Journey," has signed on to star opposite Vin Diesel in "The Last Witch Hunter" for Lionsgate Films' Summit Entertainment arm, the studio announced today. Also starring Rose Leslie and Michael Caine and directed by Breck Eisner ("The Crazies," "Sahara"), the film centers on an "immortal witch hunter" (Diesel) who must team up with a female witch to stop a group of New York City covens from unleashing an unholy plague on humanity. Wood's role is not being specified at this time. Wood has hewed mostly to independent movies since his "Lord of the Rings" breakout, with roles in such little-seen films as "Everything Is Illuminated," "Day Zero," "Celeste and Jesse Forever" and the gruesome 2012 horror remake "Maniac." Survivor fans got their first taste of Blood vs. Water Wednesday night, when the show kicked off its 27th season by pairing up past players with their loved ones and having them play against each other. The episode kicked off with "Day Zero" — the new strategy of having each pair spend a night on their own before the game officially began.
And within the first 20 minutes, two players were already voted out. (Don't worry, they'll still have a chance to get back in the game thanks to the reintroduction of Redemption Island.) The Loved Ones ("Tadhana") voted out Rupert's wife Laura, while the returning players ("Galang") voted out Candice.
The returning players jump to an early lead, winning immunity and flint at the first immunity challenge. But will playing with a family member bring out a softer side in the contestants, or make them all the more competitive? It remains to be seen,...

“Blood is Thicker than Anything”
Airs Wednesdays at 8pm (Et) on CBS
When the many twists was announced for the new Survivor season, it felt like the producers were over compensating for a flimsy premise. Besides having a silly name, the Blood vs. Water concept introduced elements that didn’t mesh with the formula. How could family members vote each other out and truly compete for a million dollars? The challenge is selling that concept without making it feel cheap. When it’s added to Redemption Island and its related twists, the danger grows larger. This baggage makes the success of the premiere a surprise. There are some lunkhead players who get too much screen time, but the cast is more interesting than the normal group. Even returnees who weren’t inspiring on their original season like Laura and Monica seem more confident this time. The loved ones...

Is blood really thicker than water? That's the question Survivor will seek to answer in its 27th Season, which pits 10 returning players against their children, siblings and significant others.
"We've talked for years about, could we do a loved ones scenario? But we just never felt like we had the right people," host Jeff Probst tells TVGuide.com. "I think people will be surprised that the notion, 'Could I vote out one of my loved ones?' comes into play. There seems to be a lot of people thinking, 'Oh, I could never vote out my loved one.' But I don't know."

Survivor: Blood vs. Water Preview
Airs Wednesdays at 8pm (Et) on CBS
Premieres September 18
Long-time Survivor fans yearn for the days when a fresh group of new castaways arrived each season to play the game. Those days are over. Only two of the last seven seasons (Nicaragua and One World) have not included returning players, and they weren’t very successful. The producers will continue to find new gimmicks to bring back former contestants. This fall’s choice has the ridiculous title of Blood vs. Water and includes pairs connected by blood or romance. Ten familiar faces are back alongside 10 first-time players. They’ll be split into two tribes in a set-up that mirrors the “Fans vs. Favorites” model that’s been used twice. It’s an intriguing concept with the potential to fall flat or deliver great drama. When the tribes merge, will anyone betray a family member? That prospect seems unlikely,...

Something was fishy when I arrived in the Philippines the day before the filming began to interview the 10 pairs set to compete in Survivor: Blood vs. Water. Namely, the fact that one of them was missing. Rc Saint-Amour (from Survivor: Philippines) and her father Craig, who were supposed to be one of the dynamic duos, were nowhere to be found. And the other contestants were just as confused as I was. Rc and her dad had indeed traveled over to the Philippines with the other cast members, and were staying at the same pre-game location with them. Then, all of a sudden,...

The new season of Survivor - subtitled "Blood vs. Water" - will pit loved one against loved one.
But in case that alone is not enough of a twist for you, Jeff Probst and CBS have revealed a number of new rules and stipulations that are sure to the castaways we meet on the Sunday, September 29. To wit:
The season will be comprised of 39-and-a-half days, kicking off with "Day Zero," where 10 pairs of loved ones will be sent out to different locations at sunset. "The whole idea was to try and get them thinking and maybe believing that they would play as a pair,” Probst tells EW. The loved ones will then be split into two tribes, with returning players on Galang and their heretofore believed-to-be partner on Tadhana. Redemption Island will return after three seasons, this time revolving around a three-person contest in which the last-place finisher is sent home.

A first look into what’s ahead from some of our favorite auteurs, 2013′s CineMart (held during the Int. Rove McManus is the lead voice actor on a new animation series – the first local production commissioned by the Cartoon Network.
